  • @RiceKiller191 cuz people like arguing, lol. but as much as i love lt1s, ls1 is better in every aspect. except low end torque, i guess, but thats more than made up by the higher peak torque, higher hp, greater efficiency, etc. not really opinion.

  • @RiceKiller191 oh, i dunno. you cant bore an ls1 much without getting new liners, since its aluminum block. but you can bore it out plenty. the block is the same for the 6.2L LS3. the LS7 has different bore spacing, so that wouldnt work, but still.

  • @pepene93 I'm guessing you've never seen a side by side comparison of the dyno graphs of these engines. The LS1 still has more low end torque at all RPMs I don't understand where several people get the idea that LT1s are faster in the low RPMs. The LT1 might seem faster because the power starts dropping off and the hard acceleration feeling disappears where in the LS1 it just continues and it's also harder to launch the quicker LS1 off the line.

I hope it's a C5 vette vs. a c4 vette comparison since the f body graphs are artificially reduced so that customers won't see that the cheaper f body makes the same power as a corvette. At the 3000 RPM you claim the LS1 makes about 25lb'ft more than the LT1 There is no point at any RPM that the LS1 makes less lb/ft of torque than the LT1. Just so you know I own an LT1 so I'm no LS1 fanboy.

    (i'm auto and still have the shit 2.73's) have run door to door with a shit load of stock auto LS1's. just my experience i respect everyone's car. 53 and racing since 1974,

    back then in my 70 340 duster.

  • I dont know why there is so much bickering between these. Realistically the LS1 doesnt have THAT much more power than the LT1. The ls1 camaro ss have 325hp to the LT1 SS's 305. The main difference is where the power is at. All it took was a cheap homemade intake and weight reduction for my LT1/a4 to run 13.4. Then after e/h, 3.73s and a small 2095 coverter, im running into the 12s fairly easy on street tires. So low 14s stock to 12s for about a grand, now that bad id say. Both are good motors.

  • @circlelt1 Don't go by advertised horsepower. In reality the LS1 is closer to 350hp. And 12's for an LS1 is as easy as swapping tires - nothing else. Both are respectable powerplants.

    LT1: Old school small block. Torquey, badass sound, reliable still.

    There's no doubt LS1 is faster, but not by much.

    You know what I say though? It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. And when my LT1 is roaring across the town with its knee snapping torque off the line, I feel alive; and that's all I can ever ask for.

  • Theoretically, yes. Then again I have never heard of the aluminum blocks having any real problems but they do weigh something like 100-150 lbs less.

  • @crackerisntme Yes, the block will stand more abuse. But in order to take any advantage of that, you'd have to get forged internals, strengthen both the heads and the bottom end.

    Still...it's a fucking engine block. Shit's expensive.

  • I love these LSx vs LTx comparos. Simple fact is it takes more to make a LTx compare to a bolt-on only LSx. I tune both and while I have quick cars from both under my belt it still takes less on a LSx to get the job done. My bolt-on M6 00 LS1 Camaro runs 12.2@112mph cosistantly. Trap speed is low but I also have a 9" and 28" slicks too. Car makes 342rwhp. Good vid and stop the bickering over these too great platforms. At least neither is a Ford or Import!

  • @hemiowner105 Get some good long tubes and a y pipe. Then get a $25 cut-out for the cat back and you should be good. If you want to run cam only look into the cc503. Its a mean cam that has seen 350rwhp in many m6 setups with the stock heads and bottom end.

    The car in the video I have no clue about what it has. If I had to guess i'de say hotcam with exhaust and a cai.

  • i know what cam only is and full bolt on are as well. i have built many cars in my time. i have an lt1 car and i know what it takes to pull on an ls1 like that. with out knowing exactly whats in both cars then assuming a car has something it does or does not is stupid. Cam only should be cam,and springs on an lt1. bolt on only would be external bolt ons. but what would they be on an ls1 car,headers,exhaust,intake ,CAI,programmer..ect... the list goes on.

  • @95z28onjuice "Cam only" usually implies someone hasn't gone further into the internals than the cam. Supporting mods are normally assumed to be included. A cam only car could have everything under the sun, so long as the heads and rotating assembly aren't messed with.

  • yeah.. my cuzin just got a LT1 yesterday lol and that shit is hooked up though the ad on craigslist said it had comp cams and rockers and lifter full exhaust headers and 4 inch offroad pipes and shift kit and has a ram air ss hood and yes the hood has a functional ram air and we didnt belive all that crap he said it had and as soon as we test drove it it fkn hauls ass i might be racing him 2day or 2mrw 2 see whos faster im kind of nervouse though he might beat me cause that think felt siick!

  • @lajefadecarebear agreed. I love em both as well. I just bought a '93 Lt1 formula myself and after im done with this car would like to get into a 98-02 SS. Just to experience both. But in my opinion GM's L series motors are unbeatable and are swapped into EVERYTHING from Miata's to BMW's.

So for you to do that in an '02 would definitely be unique and smart at the same time. If you end up doing that swap definitely shoot me a message. Wouldn't mind seeing how it comes out.   • @OneMic6 I owned a '94 Trans Am and now own a '98 Z28. The LS1 is much faster in stock form and picks up much more power with bolt-ons, but I still love the LT1; they do sound better.

  • there are plenty of imports out there (what you call a ricer) that can hold there own to either of those motors....i have a 07 mazdaspeed 6 (2.3T) and have wasted my buddies 98 lt1 ta from a dig...from a roll i can walk him and if i brake boost it's even worse...he's got cbe...i have cai, hypertech, a fatass passenger and heavy ass 20s.
