I'm a Canadian living in the US. I've lived in the UK for the short time, and have spent a bit of time in Australia as well as in Europe. I hate nationalism, jingoism, blind patriotism, what have you. Each place has its good qualities and bad qualities. So, speaking as nonobjectively as I can, the old Red Ensign was lame (ugly, common and anachronistic) the flag chosen for Canada was absolutely perfect in terms of design and functionality (recognizable, unifying emblems and colors).

The Euro has made the lives of most Europeans more expensive. It has been a very painful switch. But in the long term most economists have said that it will pay off in the end. As a result the EU as a whole has become a centralized economy with a GDP of nearly $ 18 trillion compared to U.S' $14 trillion but individually, they can't even beat China.
The thing is this world wide economic recession has hit the British harder than any other industrialized nation. Their economy has really taken a hit. While all other economies have come out of recession, the U.K is still in a recession and it is previewed to shrink even more for the next few months. Many investors have pulled their money out of U.K. markets. Huge debt. Plus the Euro zone is actually growing faster than us here in the U.S. Its only a matter of time before the U.K. joins in.

O Canada is not even the true Canadian National Anthem. The Real National Anthem of Canada is the Maple Leaf Anthem created by Alexander Muir. O Canada was forced opon Canada to appease to the Frogish Quebecois just like how the Maple Leaf Flag was forced opon Canada to replace the 1922 Canadian Red Engisn Flag also to appease the Frogish Quebecois. I'm a Canadian living in the US. I've lived in the UK for the short time, and have spent a bit of time in Australia as well as in Europe. I hate nationalism, jingoism, blind patriotism, what have you. Each place has its good qualities and bad qualities. So, speaking as nonobjectively as I can, the old Red Ensign was lame (ugly, common and anachronistic) the flag chosen for Canada was absolutely perfect in terms of design and functionality (recognizable, unifying emblems and colors).

The thing is this world wide economic recession has hit the British harder than any other industrialized nation. Their economy has really taken a hit. While all other economies have come out of recession, the U.K is still in a recession and it is previewed to shrink even more for the next few months. Many investors have pulled their money out of U.K. markets. Huge debt. Plus the Euro zone is actually growing faster than us here in the U.S. Its only a matter of time before the U.K. joins in.

Britain will adopt the Euro because its economy is broke. Out of all the industrialized countries. Britain was the one who was hit the hardest with this financial crisis. In fact, they are still the only country in the G-10 who is still technically in a recession with no growth pocasted for some time to come. Plus it will not take long until the rest of Europe puts the squezze on Britain because it wants to enjoy the benefits of the free markets of the EU but not its responsibilities.

If u only new how much debt the U.K. is in comparison to GDP u would drop dead. They had to borrow huge sums of money because of this crisis. it wasn't a "Canadian militia" that fought against our troops. Nearly 80% of the fighting was done by the Native Canadians. The rest was done by mostly British soldiers who were stationed in North America but once their posting was done went back to Britain. Canadians wished they could vote in our elections, they wished that they could have a say in our foreign policy. I have lived there. I have see it. I actually studied Canadian history and that is not true. In the War of 1812 French Canadian stayed out of the war. The Catholic Church in Quebec told them not to get involved and most of the fighting was done by Native Canadians led by Tucumseh.

O Canada is not even the true Canadian National Anthem. The Real National Anthem of Canada is the Maple Leaf Anthem created by Alexander Muir. O Canada was forced opon Canada to appease to the Frogish Quebecois just like how the Maple Leaf Flag was forced opon Canada to replace the 1922 Canadian Red Engisn Flag also to appease the Frogish Quebecois. I say enough is enough and I believe that these Frogs should be deporated from Canada and Quebec be Anglicised and English forced opon Quebec.

The new flag was a symbol to unite the country, because we recognized that Canada was a very diverse country and the Red Ensign didn't accuratly represent it as a British colony anymore.

yeah you are correct (And the red ensign was a pretty cool flag too btw) but the idea for making an entirly new flag wasn't about unification alone. It was also about showing that we were more than the sum of the parts. (the red ensign had the cultures united but distinctly seperate from one another) We were no longer british, french, or any of a dozen other cultures we were simply Canadians.
