The miracle sounds well strange like aliens took them to the holy land eat the sacrifice and brought them back. I watch too much tv. that means that no Jew could fully practrice pasover with the eating of the sacrifice unless in the holy land? unless of course this miracle happens often.
YoungOldWomen : no, for if such were the case, NO Jew could celebrate pessach (passover) unless she/he makes aliyah (emigrate) to eretz yisrael (the land of Israël) AND unless the Holy Temple is rebuild!
One has to remember that Judaism was then a religion mainly centered around the beth ha-mikdash (The Holy Temple). So, since the destruction of the last Temple, the mizvoth (commandments) pertaining to the Temple alone cannot be followed. Therefore, we celebrate pessach nonetheless. :)
darkmark: Simply because most of surrounding nations did NOT follow that custom. It was then considered as a seal, so to speak, between G-d and the Jewish people, inscribed in the very flesh of males. It also set apart, in a manner of speaking, the Jewish people from other "pagan" nations. It does NOT mean ANY kind of superiority of the Jewish people over others, and does most certainly NOT imply some kind of racist undertones. Same for the too often misunderstood concept of "chosen people".
Oops! I forgot ONE very important thing... O_O
To ALL my fellow Jews here, Orthodox or non-Orthodox :
hag sameakh v kasher pessach! :D ♥ ♥ ♥
