I was abandoned by my mom when I was a little girl. Though my mom and I have a better relationship now, this song describes how I feel. What she did affected my life so much. I have always expected people to let me down and leave. No matter how much our relationship improves, part of me will always feel the way that this song implies. It's not easy to forgive. It is also not popular to stand your ground when others think that you're wrong.

Natalie Maines come out and critized the war and George W. Bush. She and the group got alot of shit and hate mail and death threats about it. There were people such as other country music stars saying stupid shit like "Shut up and Sing". So, all that was the basis for this song. They got the last laugh, lol, though. They went on to win five grammy's in '07, including Album of the Year. Hope that helps.

This song is to my mom, She had me in foster care and now wanted me to live to live with her and her new husband. He verbally abused me calling me names and all she wanted from me was a drinking buddy and maid. Now shes a proud momma to her step son being a football mom living that perfect dream living as though shes mother of the year. Never mind the fact she drinks and cried on my shoulder when that pig got verbally abusive with her. Now she discarded me and want me to be happy for her.
