  • sounds like a white boy trying to play jazz. no soul.

  • what embouchure is he using?

  • Cmon dude in a rebot suite..please..

  • Now make your cars do this!

  • how it work? the lips? plastic-setpmotor-controlled? it is impossib.. wow

  • I completely agree with the next guy on it lacking emotion, but c'mon! How cool is that!! :D what I'm wondering is how it got it's buzz and air :P

  • This sounds very nice but i dont agree with making robots with this ability becuase it taes away soul lol a robot playing a jazz peice for instants.

  • Completely devoid of expression, soul, heart, emotion and feeling. I'm glad I don't play like that!

  • @dizzytitch1 lol what? The robot's not playing at all. A robot has not the components to make a brass instrument work. It's emitting pre-recorded (played by a human) music and moving its fingers in synch. The reason you perceive it as devoid of heart, soul emotion and feeling is because 1) You see the robot and assume it is playing the music in real time, and 2) It was likely performed by a corporate session musician who was paid to play it like that, then auto tuned to death.

  • why the fuck are you building these things we are all going to die over the rainbow now

  • but will it blend?

  • and this is how humans get replaced by everything

  • so this is why their little league team wins all the time, cuz they're robots

  • he or she just a robot :). Cool enough for practice partner? i guess not :)

  • It's cool, but i think humans shoud play Instruments (I'm sorry if some words are wrong. I'm a german.).

  • as a trumpet player i have to say, IM STILL BETTER THAN YOU!

  • 17 people are jealous of the robot's mad skills.

  • a big middle finger to my dream of being a musician

  • I wonder how high it can play.

  • Showoff

  • Tone Quality.

And I would like to see a robot that could play the French Horn.

  • Bet it cant march better than me LOL

  • I want to see Toyota make one that plays the trombone.

  • I hope it comes with a pre-programmed heroin addiction

  • Soon robots wont need humans on this planet. anymore.

  • well if this isn't the cockiest little musician I've ever seen...thinks he's so cool because he can keep perfect consistency with one hand as he walks around like a jackass...now excuse me while I go drown myself

  • I'd just like to say to all the people that think what this robot is doing is terrible for the musical world, but I'm betting that if all your heard was the music and had no idea a robot was playing it, you would assume that a human had played it.

  • @Hamish767 I beg to differ, I think as a trumpeter myself, I personally find it's not quite got the same warmth as a human could produce, the sound feels a little cold and empty and would perhaps not think of a robot but perhaps electronic sounds more than anything

  • I like to see a marching band of these robots one day...

  • heard a couple fracks... keep practicin kid! lol

  • PLAY WITH BOTH HANDS DANGIT!!!!!!!!

  • On the subject of there being no "soul" to this performance because it's being played by a robot- what about the programmer behind the robot, who probably spent years getting it to sound like that? I think if you think of the robot as the instrument, rather than the trumpet by itself, the perspective changes.

  • showers the robot with gold coins

  • even though I hate the fact that the robot is playing very well,

I have to admit that if I heard this without knowing that the performance was done by a robot, I would have thought it was a very well done performance..

in other words, it's very good. and very clear / nice tone and perfect techniques.. it's pretty much superb.. sigh this is sad

  • LOL @ the guy who says this shows emotion. It's a robot. It literally can not show emotion. -_-

  • As cool as that is... we have to remember that this song was programmed into the robot. It is missing all the soul of a real person. It's cool, it sounds great, but it sounds fake. Like a, well, like a robot is playing.

  • now make one to play the trombone, and i'll be happy

  • @beatleboy6 BUT THEN THERE GOES OUR JOB!!!!

  • this lacks so much emotion...its like a really talented 8 year old playing trumpet but doesnt have any emotional qualities to put into his playing. THis is fucking bullshit

  • @buickphan91 What the fuck are you talking about. That was great. There was emotion.

  • 8 people are Trumpet prodigies!

  • This will be the song you will hear just before you're killed when the robot apocalypse takes place.

  • frakkin' toaster.

  • this is creepy as hell

  • Sounds like every Asian musician I know!!!!

Okay that was incredibly racist, it just sounds like every "child prodigy" who's forced to practice all day, whether Asian or white.

  • Just sounds like the music was programed into the speaker of the robot, then played while you saw this bullshit. They did the same thing with the violin too. Dont get too much into a tizzy yet folks, no one has a robot for their homes yet, and the poor/middle class will most likely never ever EVER get one, and the way america is going, no one will ever be able to afford one.

  • @metavash at the rate its going, robots will replace the lower classes. Can't wait.

  • when robots learn to write music, not to please humans but to please themselves, that will be the definitive end of the human race.

  • I wanna see him play flight of the bumble bee:D

  • If this was my robot, I'd make him play double c's all day long.

  • Electrified rather than electrifying.

  • what did they use as a lip substitute? to do the buzzing. I cant figure out how they could of replicated that.

  • I can improvise im a big boi!!! im in stage band 1 YESH

  • but Arturo Sandoval doesn't fit in that robot suit... how is it playing so well!?!

  • There is a certain beauty to this, it brings a tear to this meatbags eye.

  • watch?v=v9HgYHSJUP0

  • Haha soul? There is no soul only chemical reactions in the brain robots are efficient

  • the tube connected to the back actually goes to a real trumpet player. You know... one with a soul.

  • just watch theyre gonna get rid of band!!! just for these crappy( but cool) robots!!!!!

  • Muzak. This is not to be appreciated. An advancement in uselessness.

  • @yoyo23man23 your mom is muzak

  • Our robot masters are masterful improvisers! All hail president Executron!

  • oh no not another instrument playing robot I have nothing against robots but really you cant make one with emotion so it makes me sad to see them play something as amazing as an instrument :(

  • This robot isn't a trumpet player, he is missing one key thing. The ego.

  • Bite my shiny metal ass!

  • @0932486509 No, its "Bite my shiny metal trumpet!"

  • how high can it play?? :D

  • Comment removed

  • toyota can make robots that play trumpet but cant fix thier fucking cars so the mat doesnt get the gas pedal caught

  • Is this how horses felt when we invented cars?

  • @jordopia yes........yes it is......... < :(

  • @jordopia The car was invented to save the horses from all the work that they did and to be used for pleasurable purposes just like the electric car is doing for the current internal combustion engine that we all love.

  • if i was there and i had a bat i would hit that robot in the head. people need to stop them from overtaking us.

  • @sonnifer Them as in robots, or them as in the Japanesse? If you are talking about the robots, that's is just hilarious. While we are at it, we need to stop making music-boxes too. Because under all the glamor and glitz of this robot, an ultra-sophisticated music-box is all that it is. If you are talking about the Japanesse, I personally welcome the spirit of competition. Outsiders (in any circumstance) are the best thing to base personal standards on. Anyway, GE's robot better.

  • e noi a che cazzo servimo a fà

  • wow this is bullshit

  • ya know what would be a lot easier than spending years on designing a robot that can play "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on trumpet?

having a human play "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on trumpet

you don't even need an adaptable mouthpiece.

  • wow. suddenly mankind turns to this, if you can build a robot to do that....... GET OFF YOUR LAZY BUTT AND DO IT YOURSELF

  • shit it's Toyota, does it have an emergency off button

  • how can a robot produce more soul and power than some of the people in my own class

  • WOWWWWWWW!!!!

    This is Awesome !

  • Fake and gay, has no lips. How the hell can he do it without lips to buzz?

  • The robot looks like a Dart Wader soldier from Star Wars

  • This is disgraceful....real humans make music and add personality and soul to the music. I guess I'm just jealous a robot can play trumpet better than I can

  • Square as sh!t.

  • We are gods, but only for a short period of time.

  • well yes they could be programmed to improv but there's no soul. human minds add flavor and a sense of humanity to the music

  • If I ever own a robot, it will be this one. Bender (Futurama) can kiss my shiny metal ass, I doubt he can play the trumpet...

  • This is actually pretty grovin for Robo Latin Jazz haha.

  • I bet that is a Yamaha trumpet too... lol

  • @jet62095 yeah a crappy one like all the ones they produce... probably an x1

  • @chupatrekkie13 True that! lol

  • @jet62095 im partial to bach i love my tr 301

  • @chupatrekkie13 I am also partial to Bach, I have a Strad 37. I love it

  • @jet62095 my next horn is gonna be an artisan edition. those things sound amazing

  • te doy my culo! robot! :$

  • I don't think the point of these robots is to replace real musicians. I'm pretty sure everyone realizes that isn't possible. This is a kind of tech demo that totally opens doors in the world of robotics. If they can make a robot play the trumpet, then they're on their way to making robots that can handle all sorts of really difficult tasks that require a steady hand and a lot of dexterity.

  • @LordFendleberry I agree with you there :)

  • The robot has been recalled. The Robot doesn't stop playing music once it started :(

  • Nicely done, but I knew people decades ago when I was in high school that could play circles around that robot. That said: It is still a nicely programmed machine and I suspect a real musician was involved in the project.

  • lol wouldnt that just piss people off if that was just a speaker and it was just fingering the notes lol!!!

  • lol.....who the hell thinks of some shit like this?!?!?!?pretty cool tho, but here still a difference when talkin about the style of sound of real profession musicians

  • nice..beautiful song

  • It's Lu Yi

    Lu Yi Armstrong.

  • ---CREEPY!!! Makes you think about IROBOT with Will Smith.

  • 5 stars for creepyness, robots are outdoing us on the trumpet too!?!

  • Definitely not outdoing us. If you listen to a real professional trumpet player, you'll know what I mean.

  • funny how peopel think they made the robots to be good musicians it's the tiny movements that is amazing the precision of the servos and programming not the song

  • There's no musical expresion whatsoever!!

  • still kicks ass

  • where can i find the background music for this?

  • Someone please tell me it's playing on a Yamaha....

  • how does it tongue the notes

  • i think it just cuts the airflow with a valve its a robot after all :p

  • if robots have no lips and lungs, how is this possible?

  • From what i have been told is that they modeled synthetic chops off pros and there is a calibrated air compressor the works cohesively with the "lips", so when you go up higher, the machine pumps air faster and more of it and at the same time the synthetic tightens ( vice versa for lower notes). And its programmed to act that way for a whole tune, ensuring almost 100% accuracy. :0 crazy.

  • there is a hole in the robot that blows air into the mouthpiece, there is a seal on the mouthpiece rim and a buzzer in the cup i have seen pictures it is all real.

  • a robot marching band maybe? with jetpacks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow, that would be so cool! and scary!

  • For those of you who say this has no soul, you most likely just riding the bandwagon.

If you were listening to this on your iPod/mp3 player without any knowledge that it was a robot, you wouldn't even question whether it was a human or not. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years there is a robot band that does live tours.

  • This is cool... But it makes me sad that now even robots can play the trumpet.. (:(

  • nice but no human sole in it. though its still amazing

  • Who the hell said the robots' trumpet playing is better than ours? This is just amazing but not better than humans. Don't be so sensitive, humans.

  • actually, while maybe not up to professional standards this really does sound like a very high level performance.

  • I hope that this robot only play instruments and beutiful things....but i belive that robots´ll play better with weapons in the war...

  • see, the fact that musicians get mad at this, makes us band geeks just as bad as engineering nerds, my trumpet section leader, and our first chair are both engineers, and both LOVE this. i HATE it, i love jazz and creativity, and if this can ever do that, i may as well kill myself.

  • beautiful......

  • it's okay, but those rubber lips will NEVER be able to match the sweet overtones and pure, solid center that only human lips AND determination can achieve.

  • In theory, eventually, they could improvise. Just program the scales, and either eventual advancements in AI could make it so they can make decisions as to how they want it to sound based on conditions. It's freaky to think about. When robots can improv solos, then the demise of the human race is near.

  • @therealwalrus Do you know the Armoured Core Series videogame...? Now that I've seen this... I imagine that it won't be long until we see nations rising in war with giant mechs bringing down cities while fighting and shooting each other just like the videogame... We will develop better technology, we'll build better machines, and create better AIs, but there will always be greed, racism and religion to separate brothers and make them kill each other =(

  • @therealwalrus

    ?v=jqcoDECGde8&feature=related They already can.

  • @therealwalrus Robots will never have the feeling and soul that goes into good improv. they wont have reason.

  • @therealwalrus Well... in theory they already can. Have you tried Band in a Box?

  • @therealwalrus then you pull the plug

  • i actually didnt like it, vibrato sucks.

  • Robots don't belong in jazz. Improv solos are programmed, and that just takes all the fun out of it. Those solos need to be pure creativity on the spot...something a robot can't do.

But hey...as long as they don't make one that plays the saxophone, looks like I won't get replaced, lol.

  • my friends u cant ask them for so much they are doing enough its obvious that robots cant improvise as en human

but dont get impatient the saxophone one soon come out

    lol

    take care

  • supprised he that good and doesn't drop it sense he is a robot

  • Aun no me explico si el robot esta soplando!

  • OH COME ON!!!!

  • hes better than me ^^

  • very nice, this is the future, all they need now is a Guitarist, maybe a robot who plays the piano or flute, and drums. lol, Hell, Rockband: 3000. You control the robots toyota made to make music. :P

  • Damn it's nice but i still think that robots just can't beat humans at music. i mean it has some feeling but still it's missing something.

  • yeah...soul.

  • reminds me of star trek 0_o

  • omfg the fucking retarted person talking in the background ruined the whole thing T_T

  • Maybe because he was the one filming it and put it online for you Stop being so selfish

  • but he wasnt so how am i being selfish =P?

  • Because you cant just sit an enjoy it Thats how Its a cool thing and others are enjoying it even the man talking

  • and your point is?

  • Are you delibertly being abtuse? Your whining about the person talking instead of listening to the Robot Your being selfish. That the frigging point Get it or get lost Man why is there always a dumbass like you on the computer Wah Wah wah I dont have one on here so Ill be an ass about someone elses. Get a life.

  • so what if i'm selfish? plus, i have a life, cus im alive lol what else do i have to prove to you?

  • You asked me why I thought you were selfish I told you Stop being a whiner now and go use that so called life you have. Sheesh what a dumbass

  • okay okay, ill use that life i have. besides, this is youtube. you can comment all you want, so being selfish isnt that big of a problem. rawr feed teh troll =D

  • 0:54 ~ when the man is talking, i'm 100% sure that it's cantonese, he said ,''i can't record it, i'll give it to you later, my hand can't hold it'' and haha good observation, i didn't see the wire plugged in his ass until u mentioned it !!

  • Ive gotta wonder where the air comes fromn of course here it could come from the hose that leashes it to the wall

but ive seen them in another video without wires..internal tank of awesomeness and an awesome precise valve i guess

  • his ass plugs into the wall XD

  • lol

  • lol indeed!

  • @whitespott LOL dude how could i not see that.he gets his energy from his butt plug.

  • 1 handed show off -_-

  • he playus withe with melody but its programmed improv so it redundant, like when he jumps from the c to the c in first to notes he always adds a Bflat grace note

  • Programmed improv has to be an oxymoron.

  • too bad its not in C... its playing in the key of G

  • It´s not in the key of G. That is a Bb trumpet, and therefore it´s in the key of concert F natural.
