  • 4:05 It's spelled "Philology," with an "I" rather than "Phylology" with a "Y"

  • 4:14 - Why did that rabbit made me instantly think of ThunderF00t? o_O'

  • Psycho Christians are not looking to be informed, corrected, or educated. Their one objective is to say on the Biblical narrative know matter what it takes.

Think of it this way- if Darwin, Hubble, or Einstein can't reach them then what chance to you have? Don't waste your time trying to reason with them it's impossible, their Jesus bubble is impenetrable. Instead, search for more reasonable people to debate if possible.

  • Metastudies are overrated, if you ask me. There is a definite publication bias towards "positive" studies as opposed to null studies. Thus, using published articles as your source of data is inherently biased to start with.

If I only use data that points north, it will be likely that the result of my metaanalysis will point north as well.

  • @TheGreatDeceiver42 The can be great if accessed by people who are actually experts in the field, the dangers are when people do metastudies and then just publish them without getting someone to tear them apart for them first.

  • @anubis2814 It wasn't my intention to imply that metastudies were worthless. I merely consider them overrated. Professors strut them in my face as if they were the holy grail of truth finding, mostly ignoring the biased sampling, inherent to all metastudies. They serve their purpose, but one needs to keep their flaws in mind.

  • Coherent arguments are an elitist plot.

  • Another thing: if you do use that large/obscure word, explain what you believe it means so people know we're on the same page. If its apparent you have a skewed understanding, then the conversation becomes thankfully a lot shorter.

  • but what will Nephy do if you can't argue with people of learning? he does his 2 minute Google searching, and that's worth more than any amount of college & university studies, let alone peer reviews, because it's on the Internet, so EVERYTHING found on Google is 100% true, right?

  • yup i was trying to have a sensible debate with a guy the other day following as best i could as i always do what Anubis is saying , and the guy was just making a totally incoherent argument back and he was peppering it with this word phylolgeny (what the fuck is it ) i just gave up .

  • @woofalot13 Going back to my last video, do your homework. There are two really easy sites to start research on. Wikipedia is a good place to start (you can find good links to other sites) and merrium-webster. Phylogeny is the study of the evolutionary history of a kind of organism, mostly through physical similarities as opposed to genetic ones. If you don't know what a word means that someone else is using, look it up too.

  • @anubis2814 Yup i gave up because he was just twisting logic and trying to cover it with long words and emotive arguments , talking to himself in affect and not reading my reply's and questions .

  • @anubis2814 Yes, but what is phylolgeny? Phylogeny that is funny?

  • thats a very good vid , needed saying .

  • Good one.

  • Phylolgeny anyone ROFL I'd almost forgotten about ole nephie baby. I think the escort service tab was his final blow. No pun intended. Or maybe it is, enjoy.

  • Metathesis. Endemic. Empirically demonstrated!

One of my least-favorite trends on Youtube is the abuse of technical terms from logic and rhetoric. Instead of calling someone on being abusive, they are "ad-homming." Instead of misunderstanding your video, they are "straw-manning." And then there is the tactic of trying to dismiss someone with descriptors like: subjective, relativism, semantic, communist, and so forth.

    Also, you are quite welcome.

  • @Friendough Scientism is one that is thrown around a lot which actually has a real definition but it is rarely used to mean what it actually means.

  • anubis, you could have just said. Do the opposite of young Earth creatards.

  • @xdassinx True, however the first rule is to clarify your position, so I must.

  • @anubis2814 You must and you did. To clarify my position I thought it was a good list and a well done video.

All pretty much what I try to do myself. Though when using the written word I tend to violate the loaded words and sensationalism in draft. Once out of my system I'll edit that part out. Well, more so than not.

  • @xdassinx All of these are hard to follow they go completely against how our brain evolved, but doing so helps ensure you are as close to the truth as possible.

  • @SeleukosNicator323 Its difficult because we didn't evolve to think like this, and they run counter to our naturally evolved biased.

  • It's the cases of "well now that you've disproven the meme I was parroting I'll admit I didn't believe it myself in the first place" that annoy me the most. If you think they're lying the first thing to ask is "do you actually believe that yourself?"

You'd be surprised how many sheepish nos you get.

What annoys me even more is when you hear that person bring this now disproven meme up again later. Believers don't want the truth, they their feelgood nonsense to win no matter what.

  • There is a really fine line between lying and stupid. I admit I'm more likely to assume the person is lying, but I think that's the lesser of the two insults.
