I adore this song because through all of Once's songs were about the love between the guy and girl and the complications and blah blah blah, Strict Joy has so much variation in the lyrics.

For everyone wondering where Marketa is, I was at the show (the Ryman performance in September) that this was filmed prior to, and she was there and wonderful as ever. This was just an interview that went on between Glen and these guys and they asked about new songs they were performing on this tour, so he played this for them. The full band arrangement was my favorite song of their set, with Marketa singing gorgeous harmonies to the chorus. This will be on their next album coming out 9.29.09

i figured the verse out a while ago and from what i can remember relevant to the capo its A, A with F# bass note on E,

and then its a combination of A, F#m, and D but can't quite remember in what order

that was what I thought of the Dr. Cox idea, tooo: There's a clip online in tube of the Fray with some scenes showing Dr. Cox's pain and sadness when he lost some patient's lives as they died. The faces of him there and Glen's face in the chorus here are very similar in the way of showing that.
