  • ATTENTION EVERYONE! This creature is an invasive species of starfish called that Crown of Thorns. It completely destroys coral and kelp ecosystems, and is actually preferred to kill. The Tritons Trumpet snail feeds on this critter, but it is in high demand for its shell and as a pet. People who spot this starfish are asked to crush it, because cutting it in half, as we all know, makes more starfish regenerate from the legs. Please do your part in protecting the water ecosystems. thank you.

  • Totally agree, most of the people outraged are ignorant.

  • in some areas crown of thorns are a nuisance and were introduced and so government does not frown upon killing them its actuall prefferd

  • people do more damage to reefs does that mean we should all get big rocks and smash them ?

  • whats a crown of thorns?

  • Normally I'd agree, but crown of horns are very destructive.

  • The Triton's Trumpet feeds on them - unfortunately, the TT shells are highly desirable.

I don't buy from shops that sell them.

  • sea erchants!!! D:

  • The crown of thorns is a very destructive species of starfish as they eat and kill huge ammounts of corals. They are a species that many places are blacklisted because of this.

One thing to be aware of though is that these things REGENERATE. If you cut off one of the arms it will grow back and more problematic, the arm you cut off will become a new crown of thorns. Simply cutting them up to kill them does not help, it just make it worse..

  • @tigerman1978 Actually, it's not the leg but a part of the central disk.

  • Google "Crown of Thorns" +"Great Barrier Reef". You'll change your tune.

  • Now, I don't know anything about the plant, so I don't know if there is a certain reason he killed it, but it looks like to me that while the person was scuba diving, he might of got stuck by the thorns and got pissed off then killed it. Of course, no excuse.

  • @Sivos909 it's an invasive species of starfish that can completely destroy a coral ecosystem. someone decided to do the right thing and killed it.

  • I like this scuba video from Norway:

    Diving in Bishop Harbor

  • Everywhere, i see an argument....

  • @kwitmeh3 Debate is a good thing, not bad.

  • @ReneeNme But everyone's mean!

  • After watching the descent, Im never going to do this

  • you guys do know that if you cut them up each one of there legs grows into a new starfish so your not really helping at all...

  • I competely agree, just like sunflower starfish that eat alot of abalone and sea urchins. I cut them up and feed them to the fish. We humans are part of this earth too. and we need to do ALL we can to protect the reefs, abalones, and the eco system. We must take out the disgusting predators like sunflower starfish and crown of thron.

  • i don't get it.

  • crown of thorns is the coral reefs biggest threat... even more so than humans. fuck you guys are morons..

  • @MrMenthole56 LOL yeah I was sort of confused too.... i thought crown of thorns was bad? are all these people freaking out because they don't actually understand the ecosystem and see any nature destroyed as "evil"?

  • pinkladysimpson just said she wants to protect the reef from the destructive crown of thorns, which is fair play. I would hazard a guess and say that she isn't personally actively cutting down rainforest and polluting rivers. Stop being so unecessarily rude to people you vegan freaks.

  • i think the majority of why people are killing reefs is because people arent educating people about the reefs enough some people know and still do this for no reason and thats not right but there needs to be better education on these things

  • Search this video from Norway:

    Diving in Bishop Harbor

  • THEY TOOK MY JOB! back to the pile

  • what am I watching there? I don't understand anything in this video.

  • @L33tM0us3 i believe someone put a rock ontop of the crown of thorns, which is a type of starfish that eats coral. the rock killed it.

  • @L33tM0us3 it's a crown of thorns starfish someone smashed with a rock.

  • yes OIJJ30 and you can get good dive stories and videos on the net too. try the myscubastory site. type myscubastory into google and its the first one

  • For what I know the Crown of Thorns is blooming in certain areas of the Pacific, destroying all the coral around. The same situation here in the Caribbean with the Lionfish. And sometimes, while culling the little yet beautiful pest, people get upset at you, not understanding you are not killing for fun or just because, but with the purpose of protecting the other species.

  • this scuba diver is obviously stupid .. DONT EVER touch anything when ur underwater specially stuff like these.. as the "PADI" book said, u may never know what may happen when you touch something, but what's best and the most known rule for avoiding casualties and problems is to not touch

  • @Bombazor pussy..

  • @Bombazor It's all about knowledge. If you know something to be safe to touch, and understand the consequences for touching, then you can choose to touch.

The COT is classed as a sea pest, there is no rule or recommendation anywhere that says you cannot kill one because to be frank they are overpopulated much like rats or pigeons.

Oh, and I'm a PADI Divemaster of 6 years with a speciality in marine wildlife and photography.

  • @DarrenHuseyin1 I'm not talking about pest control or anything, but that starfish has venomous spines which produce neurotoxins that cause a lot of pain and vomiting, etc.. What's best is to not touch it, simple as that

  • im confused what happened?

  • @Riha1 smashed the spiky starfish with a rock. it might sound bad but nah these things are destroying the environment

  • @Riha1 The diver filming discovered that somebody smashed that starfish with a stone.

  • I've heard that they some places pay you to kill those little bastards cause they reproduce so fast that they destroy the goddamn environment. Don't get so worked up over it, it's like deer hunting.

  • hey surfgirl19 you can also get good dive stories on the net. Try the myscubastory site. Type myscubastory into google and its the first one

  • poor

  • its not cruel, its like how people from the Micronesia dont want brown tree snakes, crown of thorns are the same.

  • Using the term loosely only referring to the fact that the water is warmer than ever. Global warming would happen with or without industry. The Earth is going through a transition of some sort. Not a tree hugging bunny f$&@er sort of type.

  • @KELLISIMPSON2009 very true

  • how did he kill it? rip its mouth off or something?

  • @Stinsonboi thats what i was just thinking? what the hell. it looked like he just picked a rock up haha

  • @Stinsonboi you inject it with sulfuric acid....you cant cut up the starfish otherwise the it creates more starfish---by destroying the oral disc, you prevent baby starfish from forming.

  • @amphirion its kinda like pakis then you kill one, hundred are born?

  • Need to totally ban and prevent harvesting of Giant Tritons, they gobble Crown of Thorns starfish all all up!

  • was there ants under the rock?

  • @Lavos2007 ok, now i get it.. thanks a lot!

  • @CropJ try what? :P

  • whoah this is a starfish? it doesnt look like a STARfish.. incredible!

  • @DOX9500 ah ok i see.. thanks! so whats the thing that eats the corals? the stone? it looks like a stone haha or the one with spikes in it?

  • @15blossoms the Crown of THorns is a very spiny non-star looking Starfish, however i cant say this video is a "cruel death" unknownst to the vid author, Crown of Thorns Starfish eat coral, they destroy entire reefs of coral, they are to the oceans what those Pest insects are that eat and destroy farm crops on land

the crown of thorns may be beautiful to look at, but their a real threat to ocean ecosystems cus they kill all the coral, which has a large impact on the environment down there

  • @Lavos2007 they wouldnt have such a huge impact on the coral if human being would learn to gtfo the reefs and stop harvesting them for aquarium trade

  • Facts:

THAT is an Acanthaster planci, commonly known as crown-of-thorn starfish. But unlike most starfish these feed EXCLUSIVELY on coral polyps.

They are poisonous so no predators eats them, save for a few. Triton, Humphead Wrasse and Harlequin Shrimp.

Too bad these are endangered and in critical conditions.

I have gone to conservation dives to collect these starfishes out of the wild in an attempt to keep the reefs in sanctuaries free of them. :/

  • whats that video all about? and whats that thing? i mean what does it do? it doesnt look scary?

  • @15blossoms

it feeds exclusively on coral polyps, nomming on buckets load of corals per day.....and night >.<

  • @15blossoms i was wondering the same thing... until i read a couple comments... you should try it...

  • Uhh I got Rickrolled. Good one prick

  • I'm confused.

  • I cant see anything,,, how did he killed it? where is it? Isn't it just a stone?! (sry - i have no idea whats going on down there) And whats underneath the stone looks already dead to me.

  • @superbaum i didnt know what it was either, apparently its a type of starfish that eats coral. the rock has been used to squash the spiney thing thats underneath it which is the star fish.

  • Corwn of thorns are a horrible threat to coral reef ecosystems. I killed many of them on a diving trip in Palau, near Micronesia, they play the biggest threat to coral reefs besides humans.

  • so what???

  • So what it eats coral reefs.

  • kill anything thats a thret to your local reef

  • are yo kidding me? Fuck crown of thorns

  • I cut them up like pizza then shake their insides out to feed the fish around them. They are to destructive to a beautiful ecosystem. If a dog was eating your child, you would kill it. I think of the reefs like my child. I am going to do anything I can to protect them. I understand that all creatures are special, but over population is just as dangerous. When you see the amount of reefs that are bleached out already because of pollution and global warming, they are disappearing fast.

  • @pinkladysimpson My god, don't even bring up global warming. I agreed with every word until I came upon those two.

  • @pinkladysimpson What evidence do you have that the bleaching of coral reefs is caused by Pollution or Global Warming?

  • @pinkladysimpson Well said. They're a pest and are routinely destroyed by divers on the Great Barrier Reef.

  • @pinkladysimpson so ur saying we need to kill humans too? sounds good to me!

  • @pinkladysimpson you stupid bitch. Humans are the worst offenders for destroying the ecosystems on this planet. There's a damn good reason why those creatures are in the sea and function as they do. You say over population is dangerous but you're looking at the wrong sentient fool. It's the human race that's breeding themselves out of existence!! You need to better educate yourself twaat. Christ ignorance pisses me off.

  • @BabyDustNZ crown of thorns eats corals.that's why they are also destructive as humans.

  • @aliszhinchaenz true, but take a closer look at what that stupid twit actually said. We do far more damage to ALL the ecosystems on this planet. What life a Crown of Thorns takes is far less in comparison to what humans take. Pinkladysimpson likes to think she's an oceanic custodian and the ultimate spokesperson for all life on earth but all she's venting is her ignorant unintelligent banter. Quote, "I am going to do anything I can to protect them"... Really?

  • @BabyDustNZ So, Pinkladysimpson is unintelligent ??? By the way, when was the last time YOU went scuba diving ?

  • @ReneeNme I don't scuba Einstein. I freedive. And what the hell has that got to do with that twaat being unintelligent!?!!

  • @BabyDustNZ Apparently YOU are the unintelligent one if you're not familiar with the ecosystem impact the Crown of Thorns can have on reefs. ie : The Reefs Research Center found in a 2000 control that overpopulation of Crown of Thorns were the cause of a 66% loss of live coral in sampled reefs.

The species doesn't need to be eradicated, just controlled. Reef divers assist in these efforts. So ??

  • @ReneeNme No fucktard, you're the unintelligent one if you can't see what the human race alone does on this planet. The Crown of Thorns is NOTHING in comparison to what humans do to environments. Overpopulation? Man you sound exactly like that stupid bitch. Talking out your arses with little or no fact. As for reef divers, NO THEY DON'T ASSIST IN FUCK ALL. What many of them do do is disturb an environment that's not there... WOW, and whaddyaknow Einstein, this video says it all.

  • Comment removed

  • @ReneeNme What you and many others need to work on first is your own race before supposedly taking care of another species. The human race is breeding themselves out of existence and raping every resource on the face of this planet. Who are you to judge and decide the fate of another species when you can't even look after your own. So before you comment again, go have a long hard think about that.

  • @BabyDustNZ That has got to be one of the lousiest retorts that I have had the unfortunate opportunity to happen across in some time. The mere fact that Pinkladysimpson is doing what she is doing makes your argument null and void. What have you done constructively lately as far as our planet is concerned ? Cashed in some aluminum cans ?

  • @aliszhinchaenz by killing off creatures that do harm? Well perhaps she should arm herself with an uzi and open fire in a mall somewhere in Dubai where humane obligation is forgotten.

  • We use to do it all the time when i was a dive instructor in Thailand..... they absolutely obliterate the reefs!!! but not fished or eaten so they are left to breed and overwhelm the place!

  • eh at least it lowered the chance of it eating another reef . poor, poor dipshit starfish

    :(

  • stupid video

  • It didn't mind?

  • WOW, that was soooo cruel !!! lol

  • They don't feel pain, it's not cruel.

  • I would have killed it! These things are becoming a huge problem for reefs as they are extremely destructive to coral and are becoming invasive as sea temperatures have increased. They spread into areas which previously had very low populations and are destructive to the coral.

  • In some places they're actually having overpopulation of these things, and as you know they LOVE to eat SPS corals...And apparently touching one of the thorns is pretty painful. But still it doesn't justify killing one of these beautiful things.

  • I would have killed that thing too...They are incredibly destructive. I saw what they can do on the GBR a couple of years ago.

  • I try to kill crown of thorns where ever possible. They will chew the Moalboal reef up like a fucking hungry fox in a chicken coop.

For all divers who want to kill them, try to take them out of the water, DO NOT CUT THEM IN TO BITS, this will only make more of them. Just like any other weed, or virus they are hardy and WILL survive.

KILL 'EM ALL PEOPLE so that our reefs stay in good shape!

  • i didnt see him dying

  • you're welcome to your opinion tripp but i say good riddance, I like reefs more

  • May God have mercy on our souls.

  • you fag, nobody cares about that shit

  • i love Crown-of-Thorns starfish . if it wernt for us making it wors then the reefs would be ok

  • scubatripp your an idiot. Crown of thorns are a noxious species that are breading out of control threatening reef ecosystems around the world.

  • @goingtoeatpizza .................so are humans

  • @bahamabronco - really, humans are disappearing fast? Presently, the human population is nearly 7 billion--10 yrs ago, the population was approximately 5 billion...

  • @bahamabronco ....we are? a billion Hindus and a billion + Chinese see it differently :P

  • What the fuck is this? It was just a rock

  • would a bit of crude oil deter these any ,please give bp a call

  • 800 dislike... delete this shit!

  • Good riddance, as they have few natural enemies, and are decimating coral reefs.

  • "To prevent overpopulation of crown-of-thorns causing widespread destruction to coral reef habitats, humans have implemented a variety of control measures." enough said.

  • Will those things eat candy kisses? Cuz I have a whole pillow case full of them I never ate since I was a kid.

  • @HaligonianType1 oo give dem 2 me i love candy!! :D

  • aww poor deadly seastar

  • maybe the crown of thorns crawled under the rock and was just sleeping?

  • So what just happened? Did he take of the shell or what?

  • GOOD! They are a horrible threat to reefs!

  • certainly death, but not exactly cruel. those things have some of the simplest nervous systems of any animal on earth. they are physically incapable of feeling pain. they dont even have a conscious mind, all they do is act and react, like a very simple computer, just living through pure instinct.

  • one more reason the world will end.

    Im just sayin...

  • i thought the one who was going to die cruelly was the diver u_u

  • @jesusantoniogb

    Me too!

  • well I would say being smashed by a rock is humane, because search teams look for these crown of thorns and inject their body with a type of acid. And i would personally be crushed rather then feel acid burning my body from the inside

  • ?

what is the king of thorns

  • IT's kinda good that they died...but I still feel sry for the poor animal

  • lol

  • Ok, So everyone who doesn't understand what the fuck happened (like me for a few minutes) should look up a pic of a living crown-of-thorns starfish. Then when you look at this vid again you can see that this guy is taking the rock off of a squished starfish that someone else previously killed by putting the rock on it.

  • @xo8jumbalaya8ox OHHH, thank you, now I understand the cruel bit but oh well.

  • I must have missed the action.

  • wut just happened?

  • Yay he killed a crown of thorns. They are pests and attack living coral

  • @SuperVillaTube They still are part of balancing a delicate ecosystem. Corals have no more right to life than this echinoderm.

  • @inkspray crown of thorns are only running wild cause we kill tuna and tuna like to eat them

  • @inkspray

Yes let's talk about balance. They're overrunning the ocean because we've destroyed a bunch of other species that would keep them IN balance.

    Moron

  • @RiskyNights Funny how people phrase things differently in person as opposed to over the internet. I doubt you would have said the same were I standing in front of you.

    Yankee.

  • @RiskyNights I can't argue with that. You're correct. It's funny, though, how different people will phrase things when they're standing in front of you, as opposed to a discussion over the internet. You, sir, are a coward. Not because you've spoken your mind, but because you would not have done so the same way if I were standing in front of you.

  • @inkspray

I've dedicated my entire life to finding alternative solutions to environmental problems.

You're welcome to join one of our protests if you come up to Canada (why you called me a Yankee only confirms what I said). And yes, if I can throw eggs at the premiere, I can certainly call you a moron to your face.

  • @inkspray they have the same 'right of life' as you call it, however we like corals mroe cuz they: provide food, are biodiverse, source of income, cultural and heritage values and tourism. thats why we'd rather kill them to save corals

  • any one mind explaining what is so cruel about this?

  • @Excalibur159 He KILLED it!

  • crown of thorns killed jesus......bastard!

  • @dusty00009 no soldiers did the thorns were to make him suffer until the soldiers killed him

  • @dusty00009 Thats wierd in catholic school they show jesus getting stabbed in the right lung. witch in thoughs days was very fatel. I think the crown of thorns was just for show like a garnish.

  • @dusty00009 No. Chuck Norris Did

  • @dusty00009 and Kenny!

  • @dusty00009 i think starvation and torture killed Jesus, the thorns were just to mock him as he called himself the Mesiah. The people who killed him were making fun of his apperent superiority in their eyes, and made him a crown.

  • what is there so cruel WTF?

  • FUCKING STUPID ASS SHITE

  • Kill the spikey bastards!

  • crown of thorns are the greatest threat to reefs around the world. beautiful to look at. hungry bastards.

  • To be fair their kind have been eating reefs for hundreds of millions of years.

You know what's really killing everything.

  • @MaxSafeheaD i agree humans are a real problem. the biggest treat to wildlife roaming the earth. but the people who try to cull these do so to protect the habitat of all the other creatures depending on the coral in the reefs. your rant about your own species is not really applicable here. we know how bad the oceans are. we see it first hand. it was over fishing of the triton and what not that allowed these crowns to become so populated, so humans are to blame. but these still destroy the reefs

  • a fair point ... sorry for the rant.

  • @paulblackpb There are also animals that feed on them.

  • @BrittanyER86 there are indeed.

  • @paulblackpb Just saying.. at least there is an animal that eats them.

  • fuk,uwhy u think dat????

  • WTF?

  • Isnt it these guys that are killing the reefs?! Still not sure id put a rock on one, but the idiots round Dahab and Sharm that stomp around on the coral need a large rock on them!

  • what the hell is that? And did he kill himself by touching it?

  • lolololll

  • I once stamped around in the water at night, sorrounded by these in greece. I was carrying a naked greek slut around in my arms, and she went from slutty to hysteric. I didn't get it until the day after and I was sober, and finally understood what she had been trying to tell me, lol. XD

  • i would have put the rock on one too, they are eating the reefs faster than they can grow, they are a real problem, your lucky you didnt get stabbed by one of the thorns

  • "they are a real problem"

Bullshit, humans are a real problem.

  • i dont get it?

  • You owe me one minute of my life plus comment time and interest. You fag!

  • yes he owes you because he held a gun to your head and forced you to watch this clip. your time is so valuable. twat.

  • @miyakko2u

No that is not why, it's because of the deceiving title You really are that stupid to think the guy came to my house and put a gun to my head? Stupid cunt.

  • Someone came to your house and put a gun to your head to make you watch this video? I guess he really wants a 5 star rating.
