i have the same exact car thats been kept in great condition and my 1 to 60 is only 9....did u mod it at all or do something different or does my car have an issue of some sort....please help lol :s
@eulaylia Launched correctly, a well-maintained '98 supercharged should do 0-60 in about 8.5 sec. My car is modded for about 25% more power over stock.
Don't be modest! That was a quick 0-60, like you said being fwd isnt easy putting anykind of significant power down. Not to mention the weight of the Riv! not bad at all! I have a 260hp 260ftlbs fwd and I have trouble too!
I'm running Firehawk Wide Ovals, a sticky summer-only Z-rated tire popular with Vette owners. Being front wheel drive and having 370 lb-ft of torque, it is not easy to modulate the gas pedal on this car. Plus, the road was cold & damp that night. These tires are a good compromise between straight line traction and excellent road holding in the corners, so I like 'em!
You know, this 7s 0-60 is as fast as specs I've seen on 60's vettes. I'm not sure I'm buying the time they state, given the vette weighed only 3400lbs and packed 424 HP as spec'd, but still it's all a matter of perspective, eh? The Riv is a sweet machine and 0-60 in 7s is quite fast enough. But passing is quite good with all that 280 ft*lbs of torque, and that really counts for a lot more in a daily driver.
a big problem in the 60's was the bad tires, they didnt learn how to make tires untill the late 80s, and then cars didnt have enough hp to spin them anyway. not to mention that 424 hp rating is at the crank, not the wheels.
You know, that is true. And I hadnt considered that as a factor, but Ill buy that it was. After some thought I think another part of the equation was the 3 speeds they ran in the day. The Riv has the four speed, helping to keep the RPMs in the power band better.
My C5 with the auto swings between best torque and max HP before shifting again. The 6 speed does better with that being part of the 6 speed manual in the C5 vette having a better 0-60 than the auto
The only thing is that my stock Cutlass Ciera does 8.5 sec. 0-60. well it did at least. Now I have a vacuum leak and leaking intake manifold gasket.

if you lost traction, don't you just need better tires?
