That weas great (again). After watching the actual movie on IFC tonight, it was funny to see that retro commercial, and to relize it was in fact, "retro".
What the hell! I Have XM radio and I have never had an extremely sexy David Bowie fall through my damn ceiling!!! I'm calling XM to complain right now, this is unacceptable lol
That's actually an early version of "Afraid" playing at the end (later re-recorded for Heathen), which may have come form the Toy sessions, an aborted earlier album that was to see Bowie re-record some of his pre-fame songs from the mid to late 60s, as well as some new originals.
loved all these commercials when they were on, wish i could see the one were snoop looked up with "i gotta stop smokin that $#!t" face, lol but all are priceless
I was only 9 when this commercial came on TV and it was the first time I saw David Bowie, and when I saw his eyes and heard his voice I said to my mum "Mommy.... who is that?!"
I remember this commercial! I don't think I really got the "I'll never get used to that" joke back then because I knew next to nothing about Bowie at the time, but now that I've gotten more into him, I can appreciate this commercial a lot more...

@NmmiNut Afraid was supposed to be on an unreleased album called "Toy." It was to consist mostly of rerecorded versions of pre-"Space Oddity" tracks, such as "Let Me Sleep Beside You," and "The London Boys," along with a handful of new tracks: "Afraid," "Uncle Floyd," (which became "Slip Away" on "Heathen") and "Toy," which was released on iTunes as "Your Turn to Drive."

Bowie crashes in on a black woman in a hotel...nothing happens.
Sam Cooke does the same thing and gets shot dead.
The world is a confusing place.

Dam*n... wouldn't it do the world a favor if David Bowie would start crashing through the ceiling every now in then?

I wanted XM in 2001 because of this commercial. Kind of makes you think of "The Man Who Fell To Earth" though, doesn't it?

Is the song afraid?
lindadox 5 years ago
It is--which is odd since Heathen wasn't released until 2002.
areafan 5 years ago
Probably was the prototype of it that was going to be on the Toy album.
Cheers for a response to a 2 year old comment!
PompadourSamurai 3 years ago
@lindadox I think Afraid was originally supposed to be on ...Hours, but it was cut, but he liked it so he kept it and waited for the next album...
