  • This exactly what is happening in my country, Cuba! I can believed, i left Cuba only 6 years ago and this movie just portrait our reality.

  • WHERE IS PART 5????

  • "you can kiss my ass.... I'm in the west now." Oh that was rich.

This is a great movie. Scary as all get out, but great.

  • How come the bugs are so selective Wiesler can hear and understand Dreyman and Jerska talking without the noise of music and other guests. The microphones would have had to be installed right in front of their mouths. Impossible!

  • @JacekPlacek1970 The microphones were installed right in front of their mouths. many different microphones actually, so he can switch between

  • where's the fifth part?

  • @qhubbles in between part 4 and 6 is a scene where Hempf is pretty much raping Christa-Maria in his limo. Youtube probably thought it violated a viewing code of some sort.

  • wow, this is such an exemplar movie.

  • wow, this is such an exemplar movie.

  • weiß jmd. wie das lied, welches die ganze party lang läuft, heißt?!

  • @MrMisterbest1 ja ich glaub, es heisst ,,Ich würde, wenn ich wüßte, daß ich könnte'' von 4PS

  • @norawillkomm93 vielen Dank :-)

  • I love the music from 0:27-2:30

  • who knows the name of this party song????at the start of this part in second 0:34???If you know please contact me at cobraneagra_teo@yahoo.com

  • @Desdichshado You probably didn't understand the German post so:

The song is "ich würde, wenn ich wüßte, daß ich könnte" by 4PS. Probably not available on itunes, but it's on Amazon!

  • @norawillkomm93 Thank you very much :D

  • Where is the part 5 bitte?

  • It's a beautiful sunny day. Honecker walks over Alexander Square in Berlin with an umbrella in his hand. A man comes up to him and asks: "Mr. Honecker, sir, why are you carrying an umbrella? The sun's shining." And Honecker says: "Sun, my ass. It's raining cats and dogs in Moscow!"

That said, the joke scene was just packed full of so many layers of meaning - amazing.

  • Just like American leftists

  • where is part 5?

  • what happened to part 5?

  • 5:06 He says, "I will skip/leave this file" or something... "Ich lasse die Akte aus" I think (instead of "Zieh die Jacke aus"). Not sure. But I thought it might be important. If you translated the whole thing yourself, it's great anyway. I am not criticising. Thanks for the movie.

  • @MisusePerfected

"Ich lasse die Akte aus." :D

"Ich lass' dir die Akte rausholen.", sagt er. :)

  • @Neitschel Danke, nach deinem Tip hör ich's auch. Ich dachte, der meint das so nach dem Motto, ich wollt die auch alle durchschaun, aber lass sie jetzt aus, damit du sie durchsehn kannst LOL. Wie gesagt, ich war mir nicht sicher. Was nuscheln die Deutschen auch immer so. =)

  • WHAT A GREAT MOVIE, I'M CUBAN AND I HAVE LIVED THIS TYPE OF REPRESSION MY SELF, THANKS FOR UPLOADING IT

  • @cubanomiami27 you sure that you just voicing your opinion won't get you arrested?

  • @cubanomiami27 lived?

  • @cubanomiami27 por favor, tú eres de miami. lo más probable saliste de cuba con toda la corrupción que existía con batista

  • No wonder why East Germany fell. 4 minutes for a red light?! Ridiculous!

  • Ulrich Tukur has always been a fantastic actor, but he really excels as Oberstleutnant Grubitz in the joke scene.

I don't know if it comes across very well if you don't speak German but as I am a German, the scene just makes me shudder...

  • @verwoerd That scene was really brilliant, I totally agree, even though I don't speak German, I felt the same way as you.

  • @verwoerd same here.

  • @verwoerd The English subtitle isn't very good throughout the movie. The joke depends on the ambiguity between hanging up a phone and hanging somone, i.e. overthrowing a regime. Too bad it does not come out as clearly as it should. Many crucial things and subtleties are missed.

  • @PMetheney84

    it should be been,

whats the difference between Honecker and a telephone?

    nothing,you hang them both!

  • @verwoerd

yes the honecker joke,in proper translation,is:

whats the difference between honecker and a telephone?

    nothing-you hang them both!

  • 7:50

That joke is probably all over the place, with workers who envy co-workers who are in sunny vacation destinations.
