They are:

1 - Attack. Forget the idea(s) and the message. Kill the messenger.

2 - Dis-credit. Your basic smear stuff.

3 - Ignore. When #1 & #2 fail.

...and

4 - Divert. Just start talking about something else.

Yep, that's it. Reason, and sanity is not allowed.
