  • I couldn't take that height for a second....I believe lots of Mohawk and Iroquois worked at height in New York. Some can and some just can't I guess.

  • @fendermac True. Members of the Mohawk tribe, which are part of the larger Iroquois family also known as the 'Five Nations,' made up parts of most workforces which built many of New York's skyscrapers and bridges, in particular the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building and the Washington Bridge. They received lower wages than others though.

  • @TigerRocket ...Tough,intrepid,amazing and unfair times.Thanks for that...

  • @TigerRocket

"They received lower wages than others though"

Well, yeah, it was 1906. We were pretty racist back then. Fuck, EVERYONE, WAS RACIST AS SHIT BACK THEN.

  • Building was fun back then. OMG

  • The best part about all of this is when the guy in the suit pushes the group of guys out over the ledge.

    "Ok, lunchtime."

    "Where do we eat Foreman?"

"No, I mean lunchtime for me! Get outta here, all ya filthy bastards..."

"Umm... we're 22 stories up. Where do we go?"

"Here now, all of you get on this wire... and hold on, I'll slide you to the next building"

They all get on and it starts moving.

    "WE'RE NOT MOVING FOREMAN!"

"I WAS LYING YOU IDIOT, NOW STAY THERE."

  • clearly before union

  • Yeah, safety control was pretty primitive here. Luckily, 25 years later, technology had evolved to the point where Empire State workers could do the same incredibly hazardous jobs MUCH higher up and under tighter deadlines. Ah, progress...

  • i have this vid and presented to a safety forum sometime in 2003. many people are amazed to see that safety today has evolved. this deserves a million views in youtube.
