  • @thegeekgroup I might be over this coming summer if my grandparents will take me. It is on the top of my list of places to see! I'll have to chuck something into thumped and the donation pile if I go. Wish I lived there.

  • Low voltage somehow equals 1600 volts? XD

  • @joblessalex You should see what we consider High Voltage.

  • I missed where they listed the Cap PN and have to get to lab in a few mins, does anyone know the PN or at what time they say it?

  • BLOW UP A BANANA!!!!! :)

  • @HazzWold1993 if the current is high enough to power 10 lighrt bulbs i'd say no

or yes if you connected dozen of them as one diode

  • it is wrong to say "as capacitors charge their resistance increases" - it is not true

their internal resistance is the same but they charge on voltage so the voltage difference between the capacitors and input power supply voltage decreases and that limits the current

if the capacitors are charged at power supply voltage the voltage difference would be 0 and therefore no current would flow

  • this would make a bad ass coilgun or railgun (if any wire would handle it XD)

    how much did it cost?

  • you still gonna do the copper coated insulators? i'd pay like 20 bucks for one

  • I want to see what the thumper does to a black light or any other fluorescent light bulb, and how about getting a insulator and cover it in copper mesh and see if it gets fully coated.

  • I love this, you can tell this is truly done by the geeks and engineers, not presenters because so many things are forgotten, yet at the same time brilliantly done, its just all constantly being tweaked :P

  • i have a suggestion :D

i want you to take an old pc that your no longer using and see what thumper will do to it :D

you might need to attach some high grade power cables to the power supply of the pc

you might need a blast shield and you would probably end up with a small fire but im shore what ever happens to the pc will be entertaining :P

just a thought probably a bad idea but hell Ive seen equally bad in your will it fry segments

so do with the idea what you will :D

  • Wow-Watts!

  • "Now witness the fire power of this fully armed and operational battle station. Fire at will commander!"

I love it! I loved those exploding sparks in slow motion. I loved the way you made that thing covered in copper. Maybe you can make some interesting jewelry and sell it. It would be cool to wear something zapped by that thumper.

  • you can hook up your big airhorn as a alarm on it

  • Some suggestions

    1) Try using a copper coil around a insulator, about a 1/8" - 3/8" gap from the insulator. (Should get a good solid plating of copper on it)

    2) Use 2 Neodymium Magnets with copper wire attached to either side of the magnets.

    3) Use multiple types of metals ie- copper, zinc, iron, aluminum foil, Tungsten Etc.

  • Red light shoudl be at the dangerousn end of the wire - not the operator console!

    Great vid. thanks

  • @IEEE1956 Shockwave kept killing lights.

  • @thegeekgroup Hey that wasn't so hard.

Perhaps we can use the power of the web to help solve problems like that

  • @IEEE1956 Um, we have a website, with forums filled with members from around the world. ;) We *do* use the web to solve problems. If you seriously want to get involved and help, be a member. :) It's free and we're far more likely to take you seriously.

  • @thegeekgroup RE: credit card is a good approximation for 0.030 inches, IT IS, i just measured my visa card with a set of calipers and got 0.028(5) inches

  • @thegeekgroup hehe - Interesting thought

Does it still pop a strobe tube or neon (discharge type) lamp ?

perhaps(shielded) twisted pair wiring to reduce common mode 'noise' may help.

  • Why not use a bat cap? Less space.

  • You should try some of the remaining capacitors in a hybrid or electric vehicle of some sort. You easily have enough there to make an impressive drag racer.

  • Love the reverse beginning !

  • i wanna hook that up to solar panels, so ill never have to pay for power =P

  • Mike Borzkowski? Is that Polish or at last West Europe origin surename?

  • This is awesome.

  • On the next version you should add a stand to hold items near the blast zone.

  • next try magnesium ribbon

  • Time to sell some aluminum cologne.

  • awsome intro!

  • So far so good....

  • 45:45 lol ive done this on a MUCH tiny-er scale

i think it condenses on the first surface that it can

  • awesome intro and music i love it!

  • Awsome intro with the music and all.

  • Weeeeell, i guess the full pop can wouldn't leave *that much of a mess; wouldn't there only be some charcoal left, maybe some metal from the can?

  • id totaly clean up if a full can of soda was done... if i could get a ride up there XD

id do can of diet coke and mentose... :D

  • id totaly clean up if a full can of soda was done... if i could get a ride up there XD

id do can of diet coke and mentose... :D

  • You should hook that up to a beefy coil and try to shrink some coins. Whats the energy being dumped from that? 2500uF per rail and 8 rails so 20,000uF or 0.02F at 1800V, so 32.4k Joules?!

  • that's so heavy duty stuff there

  • I absolutely love the intro! Was this all done with vegas or was part of it done with AE?

  • @mman454 completely in Vegas, this is just a temp intro though we need much better.

  • im still waiting for a gold string!

  • Dye your hair green...

    Btw nice vid :)
