WindsPuppet : "...Izmir/Smyrna which had been 'at Turkish hands' for more than 500 years." LOL!! What does that mean? Are you an idiot? Smyrni had been Greek for more than 2000 years before the 500 Turkish years. So?
Beautiful music. Spanoudakis is one of the greatest composers of these times. All my respect for Spanoudakis and all most known greek composers and singers: Vangelis Papatanassiou, Demis Roussos, Nana Mouskouri. Also respect for the monks wh sings psaltic and byzanthin music.
Long live Ellada, the country of my dreams! Greetings from Romania.

"We have learned a lot from Turks in music and cuisine!" What Mikis Theodorakis said is another example on Turkish influence on today's Greek culture. Other than many Greek musicians, this is stated by global authorities.(can be found on the net as well!) And actually, easily observed by many people, and tourists(including my English n American friends!) that have been to both Turkey and Greece.
ur just ignorant who dont want to admit ur greek roots on your culture! byzantines have made a main contribution in ur todays culture! look at ya architecture! nore persian neither arab! its GREEK!
Scenes are from the Turkish War of Independance. With the defeat of the occupying Greek soldiers by the Turks, Greeks lost their hopes of getting back Izmir/Smyrna which had been 'at Turkish hands' for more than 500 years. So, it's not hard to guess who the 'black horsemen' are.. By the way; try "Can Atilla" too,u'll like his music.
so i guess ur turkish...but ur actually wrong with ur comment...totally! ur influences r from byzantine (Greek) arabs and persians! turks r basicly from the altai mountains in central asia! u got nothing to do with oriental culture u just adapted it from these cultures that i listed above and made it to a culuraly clash! or have u ever seen a mongol eating kebab, playing oud and smoking shisha (nargileh) its better when u say Greeks persians arabs and kurds r MAKING U A CULTURAL SPECIAL!
"u got nothing to do with oriental culture" In fact, originally being ASIANS we obviously have MORE TO DO with oriental culture than Greeks. Our influences are from all the several civilizations and cultures that existed on the Anatolian lands; be it Romans, be it Hittites, be it Macedonians, or Persians.. For nargila, Arabs and the nations around all got it from the Ottomans, for baklava and Greeks; the same, for Karagoz the shadow theatre; the same, for bouzoukis; the same...
1 Nargileh isnt turkish in any point aswell as it isnt greek! it is from india! u adapted it we adapted it! A sweaten named baklava can be found in greek and persian ''calendars'' before christus! = baklava isnt turkish!
Nargileh's origin is India, yet it was brought to the region all the way from India by Ottomans, and all the nations around adopted it from the Ottomans.
Karagiosi is propably ottoman but not the Shadow theatre! it is from persia and has a long traditional role there aswell as in turkey and greece! bouzouki, saz, baglama is greek or persian! the predecessor of them is pandoura and is much older than the instruments listet above! it has the same form and is played in the same way
Bouzouki is Turkish it is also coming from the word 'bozuk' which means 'broken' in Turkish related to notes. Karagoz the Shadow Theatre is Ottoman. Saz, baglama is not Greek, it's Middle Eastern, and its being whether Turkish or Persian can be discussed.
oh man ur just to small brained to understand it! imagine a greek or persian instrument has a greek name in the ottoman empire! they would lost their souverenity! so turks called it buzuk! but bouzouki and saz come from Pandoura! just search in internet for it and ull find what a mean! another theory is that its a Secession from barbat = predecessor of oud!
First off, before making up new stories about the musical instruments, maybe you should go learn discussion manners and come back! Secondly, you find articles about TURKISH roots of today's Greek music and musical instruments on the net, even on youtube i've come across on some Greek videos, providing this information.

Turkish music and cuisine and generally culture has greek and only greek origin.

Not only Greek, There is Arabic and even Persian influences involved. And the music has some influence from as far as India:
