So adorable! I'm in love now! :D I'm concidering getting myself a short-hair dutch shepherd too but I must wait for a little bit longer until my situation allows it so videos like this are like drugs to me meanwhile. X)
The AKC won't recognize Malinois or Dutch Shephards, if you will, because they don't want to be responsible for people breeding them for "looks" thus wiping out the working traits. nightvisionmono, do your research before talking shit, dumbass.
I have met outstanding U.S. breeders who are disgusted with the way the dogs are, and believe there to be phenominal dog breeders in the U.S. who are unknown at this time to me. I often come across such individuals or families at K-9 seminars and such. Problem is trying to find the guy in Mobile Alabama or Lexington KY who wants to breed true working dogs. Great reply Jemsters1, very interesting points that you made as well. I hope you educate others about what true working dogs should be.
Way better if the USA doesn't know about this breed. They will breed it to be bigger than they should be. After all in the USA bigger is better. Just look at how good the US Shepherds that weigh 100lbs and up do. Wait, they are a shell of what they should be and barely have the nerves to make it through a thunderstorm.
See, now you're lumping us all in to one and that's not fair. There are some that will breed them to be big, thinking that somehow it'll be better but for one I'm not one of them and secondly I will avoid breeders who do. They are meant to be medium, compact, muscular working dogs and that's the way they should stay in my opinion. Why not support US breeders who do it right instead of lumping us all into one category? Hmm?
The orginal German Sherpherd's dog was a medium, compact, and muscular dog. Problem is that clubs like the AKC and CKC ignored the look of the dog, bred the disasters we have now, and Americans acepted the 'new'shepherd as an orginal. The poor creatures with the ski slope back and shattered nerves, are a genitic mutation of weak breeding of inferior lines and characteristics. Add the size factor and you can see why it's hard to located good GSD's.
It's unfortunate that some blind individuals believe if they can trace lineage via AKC or CKC records back to 1902 then they have the same sound and stable bloodlines. Simply untrue. Unfortunately the Malinois is going to suffer this fate as well, and is already starting due to the crap or Shutzhund, KNPV, and ring sport. I hope the Dutchie doesn't go this route. I suport U.S. bred dogs like any American, but we are so eager to modify things that we lose sight of what the breed should be.

Short-haired Dutch Shepherd: all over the body, quite hard, close-fitting, not too short coat with woolly undercoat.

Beautiful dog. I don't understand why more people in the USA don't know about them, but maybe they're better off.
