Piaggio (company that produces vespa) used to build airplanes in WW2 but after the war, Piaggio needed another form of making money so they built a scooter which somewhat resembles their airplane's engineering. The front suspension mimics the landing gear on their actual airplanes and the styling was very airplane-like at the time..

Beautiful Vespas's but what is the point of lugging that extra tire around? Not many people have what it takes to change a motorcycle tire on the side of the road.

It's not a tire, but a complete wheel. It only takes a couple of screws to change it. I've never had a flat myself, but apparently they do happen quite often especially on some of the older models.

Tire changing is a breeze. Although I hated getting a flat, it was as easy as unscrewing the 3 screws that retained the spare, undoing the 5 that held the flat tire, switching, and screwing everything back in place. Now I drive a Speed Triple (radial tubeless tires), and live in fear of flat tires, as they can be a real issue on anything other than a Vespa.

I drove across and around France on P200s and T5s, and every trip was as exciting as wherever I was going. A lifestyle in its own right!!!

Yeah, I've got a Bajaj Chetak myself. It's based on the PX. Great vintage style scooter that's 4 stroke to boot! Love it. Red and White two tone.

I've got a Bajaj Chetak 4 stroke. Looks similar to a PX or a Sprint. Built by an Indian company who at one time was a licensed Vespa manufacturer. The're still made using the same Italian sheet metal and stamping machinery!

Get's 100+ mpg and is environmentally friendly too!
