I don't care if he was on roids his swing is amazing....plus Ruth only face 10 pitchers in a season were only fast balls and curve balls were thrown. Now you face more than 100 pitchers a season
Regardless if he took steriods or not. It still takes skill to hit a hr that many times. Jose canseco took steroids but he didn't break records. No I don't like the idea of it, but it still takes mental skill to have the timing down.
The self-righteous ones on the issue of steroids NEVER protest Ozzy Osbourne, Steven Tyler, Keith Richards, George Jones, Hank Williams, or any other rock star, rap artist, or country musician notorious for alcohol/drug use and/or domestic abuse. Yet, athletes somehow have to be such saints in our society. They are entertainers, too. If they die from their actions, well, they set a BAD example to teach a GOOD lesson. That's life! Deal with it. I'm blessed to have seen Barry play. The best ever.
@snhtown9 im a giants fan nd a big barry bonds fan but thats not evn a comparison that makes sense, him doing steroids makes him bttr at baseball, those rockers were doing drugs nd alcohol thats y pple aint complainin bout them, its not makin them bttr then n e else at wat they do by cheating
@19bayarea91 You want to make a bet? How many musicians do we know of started sucking the minute they sobered up and cleaned up from drugs?...LOTS!!!! Many legends were incomparable during their "wasted" years.
@19bayarea91 Furthermore, READ what I said. I'll clarify it for you. I was merely pointing out that I hate how the self-righteous ones expect athletes to be perfect saints, but they'll give rock stars, rap artists, and country musicians a free pass on the "role model" b.s. I was pointing out that they use the "role model" excuse a lot to attack the athletes on steroids, and I'M saying that if they are going to do that, then do NOT give the musicians a free ride. Double standard?
Congressional hearings and millions of tax dollars were used to investigate juicing; just the ones who won at that. I'm all for clean sports, but there were at least 200 actual national security issues for the federal government to tend to. If we started seeing an epidemic of bald, freakishly ripped 7th graders tossing desks across classrooms and breaking Olympics records, understandable. But I lost faith in congress long before the debt-ceiling fiasco; like investigating this and invading Iraq.
@Cudaman1157 Barry bonds never deliver a positive result in a drug test and he was rhe most tested athlete in the world during the campaings of 200o to 2004.
Regardless if he was on steroids, all the pitchers were too. You can't just say he had no talent and that it was ALL PED's. He made a mistake. There was pressure on him to perform. It's like, here's 50 million dollars, if you want it, just take this pill. Are you telling me you wouldn't take that pill? He's a human too, and he made a decision that could be questionable. But regardless he is one of the best players to play the game, PED's or no PED's
What people don't realize is that during the "steroids era", it wasn't just the batters using PED's. Those pitchers (Andy Pettite, for example) weren't exactly innocent. The pendulum swings both ways.
It wouldn't be 10% as bad if he would've admitted it right off the bat. Now he's denied it so long that he doesn't really have that option anymore. He's too invested in his lie. The same goes for Lance Armstrong, although he at least doesn't have to worry perjury charges if he comes clean. Once you lie so egregiously for so long, you have to stick with it. It's a shame.
Say what you want about Barry. From 2000 - 2004 he was the best hitter I ever saw. During that span he hit .339, averaged 52 HR, 109 RBI, and 174 BB per season. His On base % was .535 and his slugging % was almost .800. And for all that power, he only struck out 63 times/year. We know he was chemically enhanced during those years, but man he was awesome. I remember in the 2002 playoffs John Smoltz threw a 99 MPH fastball at Barry's letters that he blasted about 500 ft. Such a quick bat.
@MrNotoriousKEV Well... not really. They both were cheaters and were on steroids, and w/o steroids he was a 20-30/ 30-30 hitter. So without steroids, he would be an average black stubborn baseball player who cheats on his wife for 2 other women...
what a fucking racist! "there's sammy and then there's...you know someone else out there..." couldn't even utter a white man's name (obviously mark mcgwire)
It's sad, there were greats... DiMaggio, Mantle, Mays...but Bonds is garbage and we all know it. The records mean nothing now, no matter who breaks them in the future.
you still have to put time in at the gym and practice the sport that your playing. pro wrestlers in the 60's were using steroids.so I guess we should dig up mickey mantle and roger marris and drug test their bodies then if your gonna drug test everyone
no offense, but you can't crucify one or two people. If your gonna make an argument, then every single athelete on the planet should be drug tested every week!not just one or two because they are famous.every pro and college baseball, basketball, football, hockey, wrestling, and olympic athelete does some kind of drugs.you can't cherry pick.if you do,then its fixed and there is money involved and people are paid off.just because you take steriods, doesnt mean your going to get big and strong.

Steroids or not; it's still awesome to see someone hit over 70 HRs in a single season

True that hank and babe did it with it roids... Babe did it with cheeseburgers. But the fences were also a shit ton closer back then at many fields.

@menaremen1 and he only used PED's for 3-4 years from 1998 until somewhere around the mid 2000's. I agree

The only honest player to crack 60 home runs in a season was Roger Maris. IMO his record still stands.

It is too bad Mark Mcgwire wasn't at full health during this time. McGwire vs Bonds would have been one hell of a home run race.
