Great review. I think that you really hit the mark with the revised ending. Rorschachs death always bothered me in the book and I'm glad that Snyder was able to address this in the movie. By the way the Tom Servo is awesome.
Exactly. I mean some say that the whole point is that Rorschach dies alone and thats his ultimate fate and blah ..which i get..but fuck that, in a movie i want to see some emotion. I liked that addition.
Great stuff, i agree completely. I always thought it was funny about the fanboys reaction to Dan seeing Rorschach die.."waah, that didnt happen in the comic",..no because in the comic he was getting his carrot wagged! would you rather see that? Is that a better option "well, ehhhh" lol
I went to see it yesterday afternoon with some friends and I loved every moment of it. The changes didn't affect me or make me upset at all. I understand some things need to be changed to be taken more seriously.
I'd recommend this to everyone who likes or wants a faithful adaptation to comics or who wants an engrossing and intricate movie that will have you thinking hours or even days later.
I am SO GLAD he got rid of the the squid. I always thought that Moore was smoking crack when he wrote that part anyway and the new ending like you said really would have fit better into the comic anyway. It was slightly ruined though, by the 50 year guy sitting next to me who laughed during Rorschach's death. But yeah, Nite Owl's beat down of Ozy made the fangirl in me squeal in delight.
The film was great and stayed mostly true to the novel. My biggest problems were
1. The omission of the pirate comic (I understand for time issues this had to be ommitted and I plan on buying the cartoon dvd, but it added so much depth to the novel).
2. The initial portrayal of Oxymandias. They immediately made him feel like a sinister character in my opinion. There wasn't much suspense with regard to his unreavealing.
I'd hold off on buying the cartoon dvd. Snyder plans on putting out a Definitive Watchmen dvd, where both of the cartoons are included in the film. If you're a compilist, pick it up, I guess, but I'm waiting for the Definitive Edition.
also Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the comedian. There was one scene when he was crying to Moloch, i think, that scene was really awesome as well...I've said enough now but the weirdest thing is that I didnt feel like "WOW THIS IS SO EPIC AND AWESOME" until I got home and sat down to think about the characters, the situaton and the story that I had just seen, only then had I realised how great of a film I had just witnessed....thanks for the review....
Hey there...I just came back from the first showing tonight and omg how faithful was it to the comic book...i mean i knew what was gonna happen next and it happened (aprt from the ending) which was good because atleast u dnt sit through the film knowning whats gonna happen next. Erm... I just gotta say that Jackie Earle Haley did the most touching scene at the end when hes crying to dr.mahattan to just end it and kill him..and nite owls reaction to that was so needed in there as well...........
ive only seen a good handfull of your reviews, but i dont think its possible for you to do a bad review.
well done, yet again.

Your review was almost as awesome as that Tom Servo stuffed doll in the background.

Thanks! FYI, that Servo was made by my girlfriend, Lindsay.

Ha ha! The way I see it, Nite Owl is reacting for the audience who hated to see him die.
