My Brother has the Malm Bed in full size. What he did was just took the metal peices and the slats out and just put a boxspring inside the bed. Its a lot more comfortable then that looks.
not sure if this is your problem, but the oblique metal braces which are screwed underneath, are meant to be under tension, so as to prevent the two sides of the bedframe from widening away from each other when someone heavy sits on top of the slats, and the sides of the bedframe also bends/twists inwards. Have someone push the two sides of the bedframe together while you affix the screw in the metal bracing, in a position that keeps the bracing under tension. HTH
Hey, I don't know what you make these for, but I have a fjellse bed frame and sultan lade bed slats. Experiencing the same exact problem that you say you're having. Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone.
Still, it's not like I'm going to call and complain over something I paid $10 for, I'm probably just going to go and make spacers for it (putting spacers every ~2 slats or so on both sides should keep the individual board centered, preventing it from falling in.

just attach adhesive velcro strips to bottom side of the slat ends before placing them on runner. This will keep them from shifting,
