  • virtuosic in a nutshell

  • I saw him when he played with Freddie Hubbard. Freddie said, "Now this cat can play"

  • Benny Green use to come over to me and watch me play piano when he was a kid. I would fool around with my friend's upright piano in Berkeley Ca, while he played drums. Little Benny use to 'hang out' and listen. He didn't even know the C Major scale. Now look at him.....Pure genius!

  • I think Bennie is the greatest all around jazz piano player alive.

  • haha. he's surely one of them.

  • @jlevinson6 He doesn't suck, that's for sure. But stylistically, he doesn't go too far afield, so I don't think he'd be a contender for best "all around." Benny always stays rooted in a bop or blues-driven vocabulary. You don't really hear him going outside harmonically, never laying into Herbie, or Chick harmonic spectrums. He's very traditional. Geoff Keezer (another Ray Brown piano bench alum) is more versatile, but still nails the blues and bop trip. For his thing though, Benny is tops.

  • GREAT PLAYING..........

  • Now this man can seriously play...yes Lord.

  • Yay benny green! The singers..[borat]not so much[/borat]

  • definitely amazing. I saw this guy live once, shook his hand. He's a true inspiration.

  • mercy mercy mercy

  • Benny Green has a website with music and video clips, discography, touring calendar, etc. -- the address is bennygreenmusic (followed by [dot] com, of course).

  • what's with the babbling fat chicks?...

  • yeah, those so called "musicians"

  • Again Benny swings hard.
