  • thanks for uploading this absolute classic...disturbed me as a teen

  • It's a weird, but magnificent movie!

  • is this the whole x-rated version?

  • @Verd1m5 On YouTube? What do you think??

  • @Vengeance31 I dont know. Thats why i asked. :D

  • @Verd1m5 Fair enough then, to answer your question.

Midnight Cowboy, was the first X rated movie to win the Oscar. Later, certain parts of the film were edited and it received an R rating, followed by the MPAA's decision to let the complete original print stay as is: the R rating for this film remains to this day.

  • @Vengeance31 Well, not necessary. As sure as the film was given the rating now, there was a DVD that contained the ORIGINAL content with no cuts whatsoever under an R rating. So do you know if such a copy was released and if so, which one? Do you know if it was the 1997 copy or what? I know there are some differences with the DVD releases on movies that are above the R-rated system. Unless you can tell me what was missing from the original.

  • @Verd1m5 Oh man, that is disheartening to me because I just bought the two disk special edition version and I truly hope it's the correct and original film.

  • @Sshelly34213 yes it is. I believe the only true version of the film is i think the laserdisc or vhs.

  • @Verd1m5 Ok then. The DVD is pretty decent, nothing appears to have been cut from it.

  • @Sshelly34213 well of course not. Because this movies has been recut, remastered so many times. Makes you think to watch it in theaters again.

  • @Verd1m5 Yea that is true

  • joe buck seems to be plagued by these constant flash backs of his grandmother and his ex GF. These scenes always left me wondering what happened to joe and about his relationships to these two characters. I guess the book covers that in more detail. did his grandmother neglect him? was his ex GF raped? what are those scenes all about????

  • @southstar44 From what I think happened...

    1. He had a creepily close relationship to his grandmother.

    2. His grandma may have even sexually abused him (the massage, the naked spanking, the sodomizing thermometer, etc.)

    3. Due to her jealousy, the grandmom probably called out for a few delinquents to rape Joe's girlfriend (and maybe Joe as well).

And the guy manages to keep a sense of optimism. It's pretty endearing.

  • @WheresPoochie The only thing I wonder about from this analysis is if his grandmom was connected to the gang of hooligans. I think a lot of this is probably explained in the book. But all of those things that you said about the creepy relationship with his grandmom seems to be dead accurate. I also am impressed with how optimistic the dude is despite his tormented past. Good point! This movie is so damm heavy.

  • this movie is so sad cause the same thing happened to that to him when i went modeling in NY

  • 1.36 2 fat hooked nose jews production ever wondered how jews are always dealing in diamonds? whats the 1st 3 letters in jewellry ....J.E.W. holocoust my arse.

  • @jimpurdie what?? are you talking about?

  • This film is indeed dated in many respects. In spite of this Midnight Cowboy is a true classic. Just as the book did it covers a part of American culture never before seen. It's like the American dream turning into a nightmare. I will always love it because it portrayed the tattered fringe of a Capitalist society, homelesness and poverty set against glamour and media. American cinema has gone wrong, Midnight Cowboy literally couldn't be a mainstream film today. They wouldn't dare go there.

  • Here I am again. And it still gets me everytime. Midnight Cowboy has got to be on the list of the greatest movies of all times.

    The soundtrack haunts me.

    Thank you

  • both are not gay ,just lonely joe had been raped and was interfered with his grandma thats why he daydreams about servicing older women.

  • the brunette in the white blouse in 6:06 is pretty hot back than. She has to be like 65 now. lol

  • The girl in the the blue dress on the bus at 6:06 is my mom. Love ya mom!!!!

  • This movie is great just because its from 1969... oh that magical time, I wish I was around that year

  • A truly great movie. Still got it's charm because of it's eternal theme. Loneliness.

transistor radio? look like a goof.

  • i never seen this im about to watch it

  • if i saw someone like this guy with the radio i would crack myself to laugh until i would cry...

  • Yeah...well..seeing as you were born almost 15 years AFTER the movie was released, that's not a shock.

  • Father and daughter have the same exact smile.

  • @Zujfsn watch?v=2AzEY6ZqkuE

  • also As the bus Joe Buck rides approaches New York, the view focuses on the Statue of Liberty. However this shot is from the New Jersey Turnpike's Holland Tunnel-Newark Bay Extension (Interchange 14C) going southbound, away from New York. Minutes later in the same scene, the view from the bus shows the Midtown Manhattan skyline as it enters the Lincoln Tunnel.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Joe Buck is sitting on the porch, dressed in a military suit, talking about his grandmother's death, he spits backwards

  • Where's Joe Buck???

  • I've probably seen this movie in its entirety at least 20 times and it gets better each time.

  • best movie!!!

  • Unquestionably, the greatest film of that era.

  • The sixties? Jeez that's a tough call. I don't think I could even do it. Le Samourai, Persona, Psycho, Breathless, The Wild Bunch, 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, Easy Rider, Bonnie and Clyde, Dr. Strangelove, ughhh.

If i had to choose I'd pick Wild Bunch by a hair, then Le Samourai, then Midnight Cowboy. Greatest decade of cinema?
