@jschmid All SP units appears to be in desperate need of a bath, and the Conrail units should be rinsed off before delivered home. Did SP ever wash their locomotives?
@epistte, SP did wash locomotives, but infrequently. Probably as part of some other service. One could visit Colton Yard and see plenty of clean locomotives, but then go to Cajon Pass the same day and not see any clean! Prior to the Rio Grande deal, SP had a reputation of running the dirtiest, longest, and slowest trains in the west, and maybe the whole country. They looked terrible, but sounded great!
At the lead, the last unit is an EMD SD60 demonstrator and the next to last is an MKCO lease unit (discussed below). Mid train are Conrail units headed home.
I have to wonder if at least a part of that freight train came from Western Oregon.. The lumber on the first car looks like it has a Willamette Industries logo on it which means that it probably came from the lumber plant in either Eugene or Saganaw off the Siskyou line.
Quite possibly the two mightiest RR's of all time, SP, and the ghost of the PRR in the form of those Conrail units.

Look how nice and dirty those conrail locos were starting to get, noticeably that first one, the cab windows on the sides are almost black!

Morrison Knudsen Corporation (MKCO), Boise Idaho, unit number 5530. Those details are quite visible in the original AVI file.
