Burstein is a great talent but this doesn't begin to compare with Mandy Patinkin's version in the all-star Lincoln Center concert of 1985. For once Patinkin's over the top nature fit the part while the director had Burstein too controlled. The girls got it right though.
I have now seen Danny Burstein in three different shows, and he never ceases to amaze me. This is definitely the best performance I have seen him do, and perhaps its the best of his career. What an amazing performer, TALENT
I just saw "Follies" in NYC. If you haven't seen it, you simply must go and devour the heavenly bullfight. All the performers are top notch...I never thought anyone could touch Yvonne but Miss Paige brought me to my feet!
Danny is PHENOMENAL as Buddy. He was both quirky and heartbreaking. He really was perfection in the role. His "Blues" has gotten even better, as has every aspect of the show.
The videos don't do the show justice- Great, Twice in DC and just back from NYC- Even better!!! We will never see it this good again. Don't miss it. Cast recording coming.
It's something you have to see live to really enjoy, trust me. Not all of the performances are good -- Ron Raines is a wooden Ben, Linda Lavin was a terrible Hattie, and the direction itself needs some fixing -- but Burstein, Peters, Maxwell, and White were all sensational.
@AtLastOnTheGround Raines has gotten a bit better, but he still has a way to go...wonderful voice, though, and a really friendly guy. I agree, Lavin was bad...but luckily, we got Houdyshell for Broadway and she's *incredible*.
It's really, really becoming more and more perfect.
@AtLastOnTheGround WELL SAID! I had read reviews and was expecting more. I need to remember how i am viewing this. My Bestie said the same thing to me. I concede.
Brilliant. Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant. Even better than the Mandy Patankin version from the old concert Dvd, and that's been the best I've seen or heard of for this song for a long time. Absolutely perfect in every way, builds, has perfectly creafted laugh moments, wonderfully overacting girls, and that all-important but too often missed break at the end. Incredible.
Thank you so so sooooo much for posting these! I love DB's interpretation of this song. All the Follies numbers were just spectacular. The 'young' versions were great- especially loved them in 'You're Gonna Love Tomorrow.'

If I see another Buddy in my lifetime that can even be mentioned in the same breath as Danny Burstein's, it will be a certifiable miracle.

That "MY HERO!" from Margie is a perfect comedy moment. That's the way it should always be done!

Danny deserved the Tony for Drowsy Chaperone and I've been a fan since seeing it. Hope he gets it for this hilarious and heartbreaking turn.

He is consistently good and deserved the Tony award for Drowsy Chaperone. Maybe this will be his year.

I agree with you. I usually don't care for Buddy's character or songs at all. Burstein was a revelation.

It's seriously as if the role was made for him. He and Maxwell are just perfection, and it's worth it to go to the show solely to see them.

Don't like the voice he's doing - it reminds me of Stitch :S Love the choreography and Margie's over-the-top performance :D

This would have stopped the show in NYC tonight, but they wouldn't stop it. There were about 5 showstoppers.

Danny Burstein was absolutely phenomenal at the Kennedy Center. He and Jan Maxwell were overwhelmingly good in this production.
