Building and improving the design of nuclear reactors is the cheapest, most efficient way to produce energy for everyone. It really is. There have scarcely been any issues with nuclear power plants, even Chernobyl wasn't actually that bad at all. It was a far cry from a disaster.
What happened in Japan would still have been horrific, with a power plant or not. I love solar too, and wind; but for the moment they simply aren't economically feasible.
@UnknownXV there already IS a safer design for nuclear fission reactors. it's called the liquid metal cooled reactor. the US developed it way back when nuclear power was in it's infancy but dropped the design for the CHEAPER, more PROFITABLE boiling water reactor.
we need to get more intellectuals on TV. so that what our radio signals that make it into spaace dosent embarass us infront of the league of super intelligent civilizations ....

The Japanese are just as bad as the USA. Being polite does not mean being good. Japan has problems just like any other country with their citizens. I'm a very polite pirson but I'd gladly cause u physical harm if u deserve it.
@Phlook Correction. The most dangerous toxin, Plutonium 239, with a half-life of 24,110 years is primarily produced in nuclear reactors. Not millions of years.
Kaku came out with that Japanese kind of politeness that AMericans frequently misplace as murderous, Samurai stoicism. I was waiting for him to cut dave's desk in half with a Samurai sword.
@donluchitti you know nothing about Japanese people, they are the most honorable, resilient and respectfull people. when this disaster hit, there were no looting, unlike other countries, even gangs and mafias gave a helping hand. freindship isn't an empty word for them , like in western cultures, who are quck to call you friend but that has no meaning.
@Onetazien I WROTE Kaku demonstrated Japanese politeness, which is often mistaken for stoicism. See, I am giving credit to the Japanese for being very 'nice' and kind people. I have a Japanese friend, and I have seen what you claim in their thoughtfulness of gift giving and selflessness. Besides, the Japanese forgave America for bombing them in WW2, that takes a kind of moral code akin to a Samurai's code. (I have a feeling I made my argument worse.)
David feels smarter now that Dr. Kaku was on and, shook his hand. Guess that's all it takes when your in the entertainment industry, mindless dribble most of the time.
I feel like whenever a person speaks the TRUTH on a superficial show like Letterman that the audience will not react well because the insight of Kaku is incompatible with the idiocy of the general celebrity obsessed audience. It's like adding oil to water.
Kaku is very upset about what happened in Japan...as we all should by the way. I say that corruption is the cause of the disaster in Japan. Seizmic reports should have forbidden to built nuclair reactors on the coast of Japan.
The comedian was funny, but it's not a good decision to include him at the start. MK and Letterman both might know how stupid it is to build nuke power plants, but nobody nowhere can stop them being built, it seems. Pro-nukers are entrenched. I noticed that here in Canada, we were treated to a "nukes R safe" national radio speech the same day that Fukushima blew.
Letterman's tricks and cheep shots and witty remarks that boost him up by the expense of his quests image All of this is worthless against a person whom built himself by his hard work unlike hollywood stars ( by age race and looks)
@919evilkiller919 In times like this Mr. Kaku must feel like he's stranded on planet of the apes surrounded by a seven billion bumbling ignorant primates. Letterman is an idiot.
I guess handling an catastrophic accident better than the Japanese doesn't include not informing the entire Ukrainian population even after the accident had been reported in other countries.
