  • OK, is that a skirt??

  • Again one word simply - "Excellent"

  • This song helped me with my divorce and every time I think about that time, I think about this song and how the lyrics made me realize that I had to follow my river to a new direction in my life....thank you REM for such thoughtful lyrics!!

  • there is some shimmering times in our lives when the melodic hymn or poetry in motion captures every single nuance and touch our lives and never to be repeated again; that is in which 'Find the River' is all and everything the aforementioned binds to us life eternal. Simply astonishing.

  • yippeeeeeeeeeeebeautifulllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • vov...

  • It's like a lullaby...

    *sniff*

  • beautiful song by the greatest band since the beatles thank you rem i will miss you, pete

  • Amazing song by an amazing band. Whatever happened to this kind of music?

  • fantastic band pity they have split long live R E M

  • One of many songs that some simply do not understand. By the comments, I would say that there are those here that do understand. What a great song.

You either get it or you don't.

    I get it.

  • @rcmt4 you are so right you either get it or you don't, and if you do it will make you cry,

  • Ive spent the last week reflecting on REM. I was there in the southern college bars where they were all that blared through the stereo. This song is genious as are so many of their others. A lot of people dont understand when I say that they are a band that will stand the test of time. Like the Beatles. Like the Stones. Like Zeppelin. REM could actually be better.

  • @kelzrem My parents (mid 40's) listened to REM when I was growing up. Now, I'm in my late 20's. I swear by REM. They are an absolute gem that is exceptionally unique compared to all others. They are one of those bands, like the Beatles, Stones, etc. that you instantly recognize and there is no confusion as to who is playing. I've heard their name REM (Rapid Eye Movement) was chosen at random via dictionary.

  • However, I was thinking about it for a bit and decided how wonderfully fitting their name in fact is. When listening to their music, I've always thought about flying, floating, or simply off in some ideal dreamland. Strangely enough, we do our deepest dreaming when we experience the sleep cycle of rapid eye movement.

  • God bless the musicmakers on earth, REM made me fall in love and stay there~ Thank You boys, friends and family who listened along to every new release and a bunch of outtakes. You know who you are and you know why you were invited, and you know why you stayed.

  • my most favourite band of all time

i have a tear in my eye :')

  • Thank you REM...special memories of Slane in 1995 have come back

  • love this version of a beautiful song !! reminds me of me and my ex wife this was her favorite rem tune !! good times we had and she gave me a beautiful son so this ones for you C J i will always love you and i thank u every day for what you gave me !! even though hes a stroppy 13 yr old teenage brat now lol !!

  • "Leave the road and memorize

This life that pass before my eyes"

  • Love the backing vocals

  • Thanks for the upload, great stuff.

  • one of the best songs ever recorded

  • Perhaps this is the most beautiful song ever written.

  • Beautiful. REM is so irreplaceable. If they didn't exist they would have had to be created.

  • When my 3 month old granddaughter is crying this song calms her. She stops crying every single time I put it on, and she watches the video with great intensity. The first time I discovered it, she stopped crying and I started! Gives the song even more meaning for me. She is my little speedyhead and she could be the youngest REM fan. What a wonderful song, what a wonderful band.

  • @atotalzoo Thanks for sharing. I have toddlers and without even thinking about it have told them to "slow down. Speedyhead" when they're running in the living room.

  • @atotalzoo

I would have cried too! I absolutely love this song, it means so much to me

  • cant stop loving this song

  • @inguuu89 TOO!!!!!!!!

    Beatuifull song!

  • this version is so much better in the 90s when mike mills sang the chorus part

  • where is Mike?

  • @rasavilasini He's playing the piano! 0:57

  • The smile at 3:43 epitomizes this song. Just beautiful. Michael knows it. Everyone else in the band knows it. And we all know it too.

  • LEGEND!

  • pure brilliance......pls whats the name of the man beside stipe he has brilliant voice

  • @cheeks11us

Are you talking about the bassist with the red hair? That's Ken Stringfellow. :)

  • @cheeks11us the best man who ever lived rem bassist and singer mike mills.

  • Hammer!! Danke für's einstellen..

  • greatest rem song ever!

  • Great Song and great ken Stringfellow!!!!! beuatiful voice and chorus (the red hair boy ;))

  • I met Michael one night in a dark unknown bar and he was so humble and kind....fell in love with the band all over again......

  • one of my favorite band. brilliant

  • The most beautiful song ever written by the most wonderful, talented, poetic band created.

  • they should move the dislike button to the other side of the screen

  • I always thing of my little kids when I hear this. Running around so carefree I hope they never have to 'go to task in the city'. I hope they always see the magic in nature even 'the fortune for the undertow'. What a wonderful song from a cool and kick-ass band.

  • This among my favorite of R.E.M. songs and I love seeing Ken Stringfellow up there. After all, I have a soft spot for power pop and frosting on the beaters is competing for the best power pop album ever, but dont count out Big Star and Teenage Fanclub.

  • my wedding dance....love it

  • @belfastchild76

Wow...must have been among the heavier of weddings.

  • There are few artists that can express sadness as eloquently as R.E.M.

  • Love

  • Spectacular song. Only the Beatles reached a higher level than REM. Mike Mills has a beautiful ability with harmonies. Check out him and Berry on Automatic for the People. Stipes and Lennon, the two best leads in Rock history.

  • My favourite REM song...... I have got to lead to find my way...

  • You are so right about his backing vocals.

  • Michael Stipe is a genius

  • This is the most beautiful album ever recorded

  • I love this song!

  • I'm only 27 and this music came out when I was a young kid. These guys are one of the most underrated groups of all time. I think anyone who considers themselves a lover of all music must rate REM among the elite. A truly unique style and sound that is breathtaking and inspiring every time I listen. Their music sends your mind on a winged journey, soaring over God's beautiful creation. Stipe's passion is undeniable. There will never be another REM; as special as the likes of the Beatles.

  • Never underestimate the impact of Mike's backing vocals on this. Without them this song would be just good not superb.

  • @rjrayner1972 On the album it was both Mike's and Bill's incredible harmonies. Apparently, in an interview with Mike Mills he said that they both recorded their harmony parts without listening to the other. It was just one of those rare serendipitous momwents that would have been magic to witness.

  • SUPERDRAKE

  • automatic is m' favorite rem album

  • Few other groups have the melodic creativity to sound as good as R.E.M.

  • from some reason all the live versions sound not nearly as good as the original

  • @Lansvacer not all of them. For example I didn't like I'm gonna DJ at all, until I heard it live. Now I love it. Actually I love de live version.

Still Find The River is my favorite song.

  • Amazing song, Terrible mix.

  • R.E.M. Music provide Us The Light We Cannot resist!

  • Love this song. Very introspective or maybe reflective to a young person in the midst of change.

  • You know what...all I've got to say is "fuck yeah" probably my favorite all time REM song, if not a close second or third. I haven't really compiled such a list, so don't want to be affirming of this as my favorite, but I know it is definitely in the top 3.

  • One of my favourite all time songs

  • michael stipe is dying of HIV and for him to sing for people like you to maybe truly listen to what he is actually singing about and then for people to dis the song or the band just shows the shallowness of human complexity. lyrical content is what people want to say but are too afraid of saying it so they sing about it x

  • I've said this before about this version. They have always struggled to do this justice live. This is argually the one time they did. Stunningly beautiful song. If there's a better end to an album, Man on the Moon, Nightswimming, Find the River, then I've yet to hear it.

  • The fucking ballocks.

  • one of the best songs ever written

  • they are so awesome

  • god this song speaks 2 my soul ... always a favorite of mine ... " hey now little speedy head, the read on the speed meter says ... " gives me chills ...

  • kurt cobain died listening to this..R.I.P Kurt

  • @deans19891 Atomatic for the poeple exposes alot of the inperfections and misery that exist in life, very smart album but very hard to listen to

  • Comment removed

  • @mattcollaro I disagree. This is a beautiful album, evokes a lot of emotion, but also a lot of peace and unity. I could listen to it over and over and find it just as beautiful now as when it first came out.

  • @deans19891 how do you know that?

  • Comment removed

  • @deans19891 the fact that micheal stipe is gay doesn't explain that kurt cobain died listining to this song!!

  • Fall into the ocean

I think this song is about coming out about your sexuality

But not to anybody - just yourself. Beautiful lyrics!

  • i love to you R.E.M.

  • Sometimes I think of Stipe's terror when writing the lyrics for Automatic For The People

This makes me want to cry

  • Strength and courage overide these privileged and weary eyes of river poet search naivete, pick up here and chase the ride, river empties to the tide, all of this is coming your way.

    Sheer bloody genius.

Still no band coming close to them in 25 years.

  • Ken Stringfellow

  • nothing is going my way

  • @wak444 just wait a bit... it will. and in the meantime have a beer

  • love this song more then any other

  • so beautiful song

  • beautiful

  • sounds great live

  • It just doesn't get much better than this if you like R.E.M. Night Swimming is the only song I like more from them. They happen to play back to back on the album.

  • i fucking love r.e.m

  • this is the last song kurt cobain listend to before he blew his brains out

  • For long Highways to drive at Home was Automatic for the People everytimes my First CD.I love it.

  • pure poetry

  • `` the ocean is the river`s goal``

  • Beautiful song...beautiful lyrics. My fav REM song.

  • Ken rules!!!

  • Wonderful song

  • sad song... for river... rest in peace, river phoenix...

  • I think the leadsinger is at it's hottest in this liveperformance ;D

  • everything about this song is magic. a highlight of this great band

  • cool butthead

  • Amazing!

  • I remember hearing this song on MTV unplugged...

Way back in 92 or 93...

    I thought then...who is this R.E.M...

    I should now like...this R.E.M...

  • Beautiful song. Wonderful band.

  • @78Keeley pretty much sums everything up!

  • Beautiful, this song is awesome. This performance is very special for me, great album and great band.

  • glad to see some of u runts can see the beauty in this masterpiece of a song.

  • Damn right!

  • AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE is their best one !

  • GREAT CD, yes, but Monster and Up are my favorite 2 REM CD's.

  • I vote for Out of Time. There just too many good songs in that one CD.

  • As a fan of R.E.M. its hard to say wich is the best cd, cause the change of stiles, all have a diferent vibe, diferent feeling, age and soul! But Automatic for the people its in the top. Hearing it since it came out in 91 and never get tire of it! Other artworks Murmur, Reckoning, Fables, Life's, Green,Out of time, Monster, New adventures, Up and Reveal! I know, almost all of them!

  • I would go gay to be with Michael Stipe.

  • I´de become a boy for Michael :)

  • LMFAO!!!!!!!! I would'nt go gay but I would LOVE to meet him. He's a very interesting and talented man.

  • The keyboards are a bit odd, but overall the performance is fantastic.

    Accordian may sound better boys!

  • I think the keyboard sounds fucking fantastic! Great Version!

  • This song is SO closely tied to Nightswimming, I guess I've listened to the these songs about 500-1000 times. These two songs are as eternal in their quality as any composition by Mozart...

  • wonderful...........

  • I'm with you all guys, been a fan since i was a kid back in the 80's, still a fan, have all the cd's and i believe Automatic for the people it's my favorite, because of the darkness, haunting of the music and the deep and soulfull, full of pain voice, strings and lyrics that touch me.

  • This is the best closing song on an album I can think of. I've heard it hundreds of times and it still gives me goosebumps.

  • little america?

  • They have always struggled a bit with this live but this is nearly as good as the record and believe me that's saying something.

  • "Find the River" is R.E.M.'s most haunting and beautiful song.

  • The lyrics to this song are beautiful and show poetic license that is so rare. This is such a unique song that treats the poetic words tenderly, only as Mr. Stipe can, with passion and a personal inflection that make it outstanding, and memorable.

  • That's Ken Stringfellow from the Posies, a fine band in their own right...I for one am always happy to see him hanging with R.E.M.!

  • it would be perfect with mike doing background vocals instead of the red pokemon...

  • Ken Stringfellow. :)

  • Agreed 100%!!! (Red Pokemon..hilarious!) I always look forward to hearing him on this song, and am very disappointed when it's not him.

  • SO BEAUTIFUL................

  • find the river is my favourite REM song. awesome recording. great post - thank you

  • a truly amazing record (AFTP). They were always a great band but AFTP is still an unbelievable record to this day. A truly forgotten classic. The lyrics are amazing, the music incredible- star me kitten? Jesus. I still hear you screeching through your door from my driveway. x

  • stipe ,my hero, listen , ur one of m best fighters ....i admire u...cause u fight epecially with yourself...i know it very well....my only wish is meet you...god bless you...my heart always aches if i see u singin etc....i hope i can meet u one day.....and can talk about it.....mike

  • What great lyrics.

    A very fine song.

  • Super!!!!

  • beautiful song!

  • fantastic.

  • great tune, should have plugged the keyboard in tho ;)

  • that is Ken Stringfellow from the Posies.

  • Yep, he tours with them now.

  • Very difficult song to sing live. Excellent vocals. On the decline????? Maybe it is your hearing that is on the decline.

  • Anyone else notice the monitor on the left at 1:06 to about 1:10? Bill Berry!

  • I would never get confuse with those EYEBROWNS!! ;-)

  • Holy shit, you're right!

  • I feel very lucky to have seen REM on many occasions, they are without doubt one of the finest live bands.

We all get older and these guys are no different, still the best though.

And this is up there as a favorite track; great song with great vocals.

  • fantastic song

  • great song, the chorus it's impossible to not sing along

  • My alltime favourite REM tune, brings a tear to my eye.

  • The last bit is the best. Seeing him come out of a singing trance and smiles! :) Quality.

  • What a classic tune, total genius michael is, love em

  • phenomenally beautiful tune---stipe is a lyrical genius-----

  • is he sitting down he looks really short

  • i <3 this song .... x

  • i've just watched a few songs from this tv performance and have been thinking, this one has means a lot to me personally, and this one, and this one... what more can one ask from music? rem are the stuff of legend.

    k

  • Took me a while to spot Mike hiding at the back of the stage!
