  • This is not some comedy, its so absurd to "normal" people with feelings that one good explanation is:this is comedy

  • It's funny because it's true.

  • For all the girls out there this is how men talk around other men when women aren't around, I imagine if close friend(girl) of mine was to walk in on a dude conversation she would be so offended by the sexism!

  • @viewtifulmoejoe you obviously know some very retarded people because i don't know anyone who is seriously sexist towards women in that way.

  • @TheCaNin3 Second. Not to say people like this don't exist, but dropping a blanket statement like "this is how men talk around other men" is simply absurd. I've never even experienced a conversation to this degree of sexism in the real world.

  • @Cinder0us exactly.

  • I can't believe they're going to remake this movie...Like how the hell is anyone going to make such a great performance as Christian Bale did.

  • @SuperLeetdude Let's just see what Hollywood can come up with.

  • I'm a girl and I think this is hilarious because it's obviously the most ridiculous thing in the world.

  • This is again Bateman attempting to show his true self in the world of conformists and, like all the other times in the film, he is ignored and/or given the brush off.

  • now thats more like it mr. wayne

  • Awesome, Americn Psycho with a STIHL commerical lol

  • Why are so many people on here bragging that they laughed at this? You are supposed to laugh at the absurdity of it, that's the fucking point of the movie.

  • @ChristianInvisibles they don't get it maybe kids

  • @ChristianInvisibles This is youtube, most of the people here are idiots lol

  • @ChristianInvisibles Ironic how this movie is about shallow social values and here you go criticizing others for laughing at something they think is funny because they're not "supposed" to laugh at it.

  • @TehNaylor

That is literally the exact opposite of what I said in my comment. I said people are commenting that they are laughing at it to seem dark and brooding, but the scene is ridiculous and made for people to laugh at. I said people are supposed to laugh at it, not that they are not supposed to.

Reading comprehension is an important tool. Use it next time you criticize someone.

  • @ChristianInvisibles It doesn't matter what you meant or what they're supposed to laugh at. The point is you're talking-down people just because they don't do what's "meant" for them to do. Your obsession with shallow social values that would drive you so far as to insult people is on par with the shallow social values that the people in this movie have.

  • @TehNaylor

Thanks for the psychoanalysis, Freud. I'm glad you were able to pick out my "obsession" from my two-sentence comment.

I'm not interested in getting in a retarded comment battle. I was merely saying that people seem to be missing the point of the movie, and brag about laughing at it to seem dark, when the purpose of the movie is laughter.

Best way to combat a comment you find preachy and bitchy by nature? Respond with a preachy and bitchy comment. Get over it.

  • Everyone looked at me weird when I laughed at that. What? Death and screaming is funny, right? American Psycho is my favourite comedy!

  • being a man i personally hate feminism aswell chauvinism (i thing itsthe right word,) both are as stupid as narrow minded, i love woman i love them so much that i want them to have the same oportunities that i have, but being a feminist pff comeon only woman who dont get laid are feminist

  • PRESS 2 repeatedly for endless high five! thumbs up if you like!

  • @FalloutGod hahahaha

  • @FalloutGod lol dude press 2 heaps of times then press 9

  • And women still prefer successful men like them so who are you fucking kidding.

  • Just keep pressing 9 if you feel like choking this cock sucker.

  • THIS SHIT IS HILARIOUS FOR ABOUT 27 DIFFERENT REASONS!

  • I laughed.

  • edmund keeper said that not ed gein

  • and women throw themselves at men like these

  • @runtodahills yeah women are the problem, not you

  • smart or half way intelligent?

  • i thought that was edmund kemper

  • this makes sense.... to a five-year old

  • i got the joke.

  • The conversation makes sense to him because it is where their incredibly shallow and self-absorbed lives lead to if taken to the extreme.

  • Ed Gein; maitre'd at Canal Bar? Lmao

  • @MaskoftheWraith Mary Harron (director) didn't write any of American Psycho; she just transformed it into a film. The person you're thinking of is Bryce Ellis, who came under a lot of fire from feminists back when the novel was released.

  • @MaskoftheWraith Can you help me out with that reference?? I don't understand it =/

  • Aw man. if Patrick would of said that to me i would of genuinly laughed with him

  • @SecinMuz In a setting like this, I would have gone with the "joke" as well. But, I would think, WHAT A FUCKING SICK GUY.

  • @AlGhaffar Just the way he delivers the "joke" is hilarious to me.

  • women, just got put their head on a stick am I right fellas

  • Ha ha that was pretty funny actually.

  • Get it? It could mean a stab through the head, or it could mean he was imagining her "head on a stick" as in a BJ.

Took a while for me to find it out.

  • @joelibermann No, he meant an impaled head on a sharp stick. Ed Gein was a real serial killer, he kept pieces of corpses all around his house and had some appliances made from woman's skin.

  • @schink24

look that's what I'm trying to tell you. He meant both, a double meaning.

    It's a joke.

  • @joelibermann I know that's what you meant. My point was, Bateman already meant it as a joke without the double meaning you made up.

  • @schink24

I didn't make it up, it's only funny with the double meaning.

  • @TheElectricshock1 its funny because hes so disconnected with reality that he thought they would have the same felling about that statement "with her head on a stick" he laughs they don't,get it?have you seen the film or are you just trolling

  • Just FYI this movie was directed by a girl who wrote the script herself.

  • @killermystery

Yeah but its based on a book written by a man

  • @killermystery no it was wrote by a guy so fuck those hoes

  • @killermystery But she wrote it doing a compilation of rearranged phrases from the novel, so it's not her exactly her words.

  • @killermystery Which is based on a book written by a guy

  • @Fleabr A gay man at that.

  • @killermystery but this conversation is in the book, which was written by a man. he said he meant the book to be feminist.

  • @killermystery i used to love this movie, but u lil smart-ass ruined it. thx 4 that

  • @killermystery she was probably ugly...

  • @killermystery bet she was a feminazi

  • @killermystery

The movie is based on a book.

This scene is from the book.

    Jesus christ.

  • @killermystery this was from a book you moron

  • This is more or less true, but the way they delivered it is probably making feminist's hit the gay bars everywhere/sob.

  • /v/.avi

  • He thinks what he is saying is par for the course because that's what anyone who observes the violence and bigotry of the 80s zeitgeist would think if they were socially retarded and thus didn't understand the arbitrary limits on how that was supposed to be expressed.

  • Let me explain: the point is that what Van Patten, etc. are saying is just as dehumanizing as what Patrick says. The only reason they look shocked at the end is because it's not socially acceptable to take what they are saying to its logical conclusion. Patrick is a character that does not understand social norms, but tries to copy his coworkers to seem normal. He grasps misogyny is cool among yuppies, but expresses it in a strange manner because he doesn't know any better.

  • @frauleinschwein You perceived it the same way as me.

  • @AddictedToAndrea Because sociopath is impulsive, hes going with the flow and not living second personality there

  • @frauleinschwein You think that classing women as either beautiful and useless or ugly and useful is just as dehumanizing as the concept of murdering women for fun? Umm...

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx

Well comments have limits you know, I had to say "the same" but what I meant was it's certainly on the same ideological spectrum.

Maybe it's because I'm too depressed to see things objectively, but I almost think dying would be better, you can't be conscious after the act to see people doing this to you, and you don't have to live with the knowledge afterwards. But I agree in theory that taking someone's life is the ultimate way to limit their freedom and subjectivity.

  • @frauleinschwein There is a huge difference between male chauvinism and extreme misogyny, though thanks to radical feminism, many people now seem to think that any less than shining attitude toward women is exemplary of deep seated hatred. But the kinds of people who do things like class women by either their looks/sex appeal or usefulness don't limit their narrow-minded views to women at all. They're usually all-round bigots.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx I completely agree, I personally believe in full gender equality, however I went on a feminist forum the other day asking their opinion on the inequality men face in regards to alimony, war, child custody etc. I was shocked that their response was to label me a ''mansplainer'' and then say I was automatically ignorant for speaking from a point of ''privilege''. I love people of all gender identities, but I absolutely can't stand self righteous, condescending, radical feminists.

  • @ec123456789able Yes, it's very unfortunate that when a group of people has been persecuted or mistreated in the past, many people feel that it's somehow fair to turn the tables in the opposite direction or that it's impossible for other groups to have suffered as well. Men have always had hard lives just as women; the fact that most societies have always been patriarchal and still are does not negate the fact that men also face a set of pressures and problems unique to them.

  • Comment removed

  • @Lyko74 this attitude isn't just confined to feminists either.

  • @Lyko74 I am not sure it is quite that simple, I am sure some feminists who do genuinely want gender equality, however their approach means that they actually end up creating new double standards and cause more prejudice against men. The problem is, feminism aims to turn women into a ''special interest group'' because they see women as underprivileged and think general campaigns for equality won't work, they therefore end up campaigning for ''what is best for them'' rather than ''equality''.

  • Every role playing stupid American bitch should be forced to watch this.

  • @JackRoller008

lol completely missed the point of the scene

American Psycho is a feminist movie.

  • @frauleinschwein - Actually - its not. The movie is about the superficial reality that society has become. You missed the point. Not me.

  • oh dang you tell 'em.

  • on a stick. on a stick! haha i get it i get it!

  • I love the way McDermot and VanPatten look at each other at the end. LOL

  • HEY PAUL! AAAAAAAAAAAH

  • akward turtle at the end lol

  • To sum up the entire film: People with power can get away with murder.

  • @SugarSpiceCutegirl Somehow, I don't think you got it. Bateman never killed anyone.

  • @Thanquee No exactly, it's the metaphor.

  • @Thanquee Yes, he did.

  • @Thanquee Yes he did. He got away with them for a number of reasons: mistaken identity being the main one and greed of others being another. The woman renovating Paul Allen's apartment knew she couldn't sell the place if people knew murders took place there, so she chose to ignore what happened, clean the place up and try to cover the whole thing up so she can make more money.

  • @Thanquee Also, look how many times Bateman is mistaken for someone else throughout the film. Nobody really knows him, which makes it easy for him to get away with the murders. Saying that the "whole thing was in his head" would render the film pointless and the director, as well as Bret Easton Ellis, have denied that is what happened.

  • a 30 second ad for a 60 second clip... this is the future of you tube

  • same way i look at it

  • Haha great scene

Funny thing is that woman was directing it :D

  • Its funny how some people dont realize this was satire and that it was all in his head..

  • @NoMercyfortheGuilty

It's a satire, but it wasn't all in his head. This all actually happened. Dir. Mary Harron says as much on the DVD behind-the-scenes, but also admits the movie turned out a little more ambiguous than she would have liked.

  • @sccitylhh really.....so an atm really told him to feed it a kitten huh?

  • @NoMercyfortheGuilty

Good point. That's precisely what Harron wished she had changed. This isn't my theory, it's straight out of the director's mouth.

  • @sccitylhh it she had and it turned out He really was a serial killer than it would have made the story into a pointless black comedy. Patrick is so ordinary. Thats the things hes afraid of most. He wants to fit in and be cool. In the book he's very concerned about looking cool in front of other people. He fantasizes about killing people so much that he starts to lose it. Its a brilliant satire of how vapid the 80s were.

  • @NoMercyfortheGuilty

Agreed. The book is one of my favorite books and the film is one of my favorite films. If he really is a killer, the satirical lambasting of 80's fetish materialism is absolutely preserved. Hell, the effect is actually enhanced. For me, the decision to make his sadism internal lessons the impact of the message substantially.

  • @NoMercyfortheGuilty

I think one of the great things about how the film turned out, aside from the director's intentions, is that a case could be made for either point of view. The real estate agent at the end is a fascinating choice. She knows who Patrick is, even though she hasn't met him. There's a reason why Paul's apartment is sparkly clean: who could sell an apartment when its known a mass murder took place there? Her cover up perfectly fits in with the shallow 80s motif.

  • "Ed Gain? Matré d' at canal bar?" - best sneaky line ever

  • This is based on how people actually are, but Bateman is the extreme of sickness, and depravity.

  • @Drizzlerman Yeah they based his character structure on a typical Atheist but added the extra 10% mental illness.

  • @mookixox

Nihilist. Atheist. Exactly the same, except they're not.

  • best movie evar

  • I would write a lengthy comment but I am too busy eating what I was staring at

  • @2007db2007 copy cat wow

  • @frustratedgamerguy wtf lol, your mum and girlfriend must love you, this is a film not real life

  • @frustratedgamerguy They also want ass to mouth.

My best pickup line is, "Hi my name is Chris. Would you like to have anal sex?" Works like a charm.

  • imagine what they'd think of women if they were around now lol

  • Take out the e in Bateman. Wow.

  • @cornholio5324 you are a genius. Wow.

  • @XxXMagistraXxX

    i know right. sarcasm.

  • @cornholio5324 Bateman... Bateman... Batman... Well played, Mr. Bale.

  • on a stick! classic bateman!

  • i laughed... im i gonna be a killer?

  • I would write a lengthy comment... but I have to return some videotapes.

  • @MidgetOppression i appreciate ur honesty

  • This sounds like 4chan directed this movie.

  • @PKFlashBeta haushuas never think like that bu u are right

  • @PKFlashBeta even the most famous celebrities could be /b/tards...

  • @PKFlashBeta Actually a woman directed it. And a woman wrote the screenplay from the book.

  • @PKFlashBeta

    lmao too true

  • @PKFlashBeta actually a woman directed it

  • @PKFlashBeta Which is funny, 'cause it was a woman who directed it.

  • @AGoddamnBatman And as we know, there are no women on the internet.

  • @PKFlashBeta I like you now.

  • @Daggerspine107 Aren't you supposed to buy me dinner first?

  • @PKFlashBeta Nope. A woman directed this movie!

  • Ed Kemper said that not Ed Gein

  • @Sveners50 didn't edmund kemper also put an asian girls head in his moms garden because she always wanted people to look up to her? He had a good sense of humor.

  • @blank21121 im not sure but i think Ed Gein did that shit with the asian girl.cause Gein's mom knew he was a serial killer but Kemper's mom didn't knew he was a serial killer until he killed her.

BTW thats creepy as fuck lol

  • @Sveners50 No, i was right. Edmund put the girls head undeneath his mothers garden.

  • @blank21121 yeah i just watched Ed Gein's Bio and is mother was dead before he started killing you right it was Ed Kemper

  • That awkward moment when your joke about putting heads on spikes was funnier when you thought of it and you realize you really need to work on your punchline timing.

  • Murdeland-Headcase

  • Bruce Wayne has fallen far...

  • ed gein? maitre d' at canal bar?

  • 35 people are female

  • 35 people had to return some videos

    Sorry I had to.

  • Hey Paul! *Smash*

  • Comment removed

  • It's actually an Edmund Kemper quote, not Ed Gein...ah well, still serves the purpose. Love this movie.

  • ''what her head would look like on a stick'' ---> awkward laugh ----> awkward silence

  • @PresidentWassereimer Joker told him that joke xD why so serious!!

  • Bale has a bit if a lisp. Shhhhtick!!!

  • @CitizenDrummer Its not a lisp, its the fact that he doesn't actually have an american accent so he is trying to cover it.

  • @nitinopp I understand that, but it still comes off like a whistley lisp. Whatever, still a good movie.

  • *adds

  • if women are that stupid, i wonder why men get so awkward and go through hell trying to ask one out, or get in a girl's pants. Batman, the joke's on you !

  • @sometimesilovelife the one that think like that only think about sex and thats then the reason why they do such things

  • this scene wasn't that funny, because when they were talking about women it was all true. The only part that i really laughed at was when he said "what her head would look like on a stick" lol i was like pissing myself coz thats actually what i think when i see chicks. if you actually think really hard about it, women are really...well, objects in a way that we can manipulate if we want a good time. and they are good to look at aswell. think hard about this and you will understand.

  • check em, i got dubs women on spears

  • Meaning even his asshole yuppie friends think Bateman has some screws loose.

  • @danning1 but they dont know how much

  • very David Brentish scene lol

  • this movie nails it so hard.

  • Here, Patrick misquotes serial killer Ed Gein and, actually quotes what serial killer Edmund Kemper the 3rd said.

  • @denisethepainter i think that was on purpose... seeing how all the characters never really know who is who. i could be wrong though.

  • @YouHumbleNarrator88 Oh! That actually makes sense then and ads to his "allure" as a pretentious git --also suits the rest of his persona, what with his (grand fromage) Robert Palmer and Huey Lewis, other not-cool bands etc. "in-the-know". He sure enjoyed presenting himself as the Fountain of Knowledge; especially of bad 80's band trivia!^^

Thanks Humble Narrator for sharing your perspective.I think you're correct!

    Denise

  • oh lol, hit 8 repeatedly. the guy in the background makes it funnier

  • 0:54 I like how he says "stick".
