In a musical sense, you are right. But in the sense of atmosphere and "scene" I would say there is a world of difference. I find goa/psytrance/fullon etc to be "hippy music" while darkpsy is far more psychedelic and deep, without the chronic "positivity cult" most hippies adhere to. I would also say it has hi-tech elements of the cyber subculture in it, not music-wise, but themewise.

Then you should come to montreal some day! the psy scene is EXPLODING, when I first started attending parties (2 years ago) there was like, 1 or 2 parties each month, now there are some on almost every week-end and 2 or 3 times per WEEK there are a couple of crews who organise psy nights in clubs (wich would have been impossible not so long ago!), it's mostly full-on/prog/minimal tech, but darkpsy is emerging in our scene!
