When I was in basic training back in 04 my senior drill used to march us to this jam in cadence. I still use it to this day. Don't ask how but it works lol. Thanks for posting this gem.
A hit song can be under two minutes in length.....Marty Robbins wrote and recorded El Paso back in the 50s and it was about 5 minutes or so long....folks in the know didnt think it would ever get air play because it was toooooooo long....(but it did and became a hit and a classic)..lol
My name is Josephine and this is the first time I have heard fats sing this. Had to listen to it because I just had the sweetest man, probably in his 60s or 70s sing this to me in the store(he saw my name on my check). I get alot of were you named after Josephine Baker-no, were you named after this song-no, that's what he was asking me too but never had it sung to me LOL!! It was so cute it really made my day he was all into it!! Never seen him before today but hope to again very pleasant man!
My father wrote this song when he was 16 to his high school sweetheart. He sent the lyrics to the local radio station as a contest. He got $500 bucks for this song and Fats got all the songwriting rights. True story....my dad even had the gold record with Fat's signature....
my grandmother's name was josephine. my uncle recently got married and by total coincidence the live band that played at the dance, played this song. beautiful and emotional <3 :)
My father wrote this song. It was a poem for his girlfriend when he was 16! He sent the song into a competition and won. He couldn't afford the copyright costs so sold his rights for $600! My dad was issued a gold record, but didn't receive any royalties or credit! Im in the process of writing a book based on my dad...and hoping if i can get his gold reissued, since it was destoryed in a fire.
What I still chuckle about as I remember this record:
I was stationed in Guam, and a buddy and I went on liberty. As we were laying on the grass, looking out at the ocean, there was a lull in our conversation. All of a sudden he started making a chugging sound like the intro of this record. Then he mouthed the words, "Hello, Josephine," It was funny because it was so un-rehearsed.
Marinobrosproduction, It varies. It mostly depends on the condition and how rare the record is.They can go for as little as five dollars, or as much as fifty.

It's a hit song, true, but not under two minutes. Your description fails.

@bobsonny thought you were right but it starts at 0.05 and ends at 2.04 or something so under 2 minutes =P
