  • Most of these men are too old or not tall enough.

  • I absolutely love Jamie Fraser but always had a problem imagining his "long thin nose" as a handsome trait as described in the books - I now can aussi Alex O'loughlin (Irish Scotts decent) would be a perfect older Jamie. I think you will need two actors. Love Ewen, but not big or rugged enough.

  • How about Prince Harry?

  • @SherryClune Do me a favor and look up Guilio Berruti , He is Italian and ohhhhh sooo beautiful! ;D

If you are looking for an image there he is...he has the most beautiful blue eyes. If he were Scot and a red head.....mmmmmmmmmmm..... ;D

  • how about Robert Carlyle???? He is Scot, adorable, and he was awesome at Hamish MacBeth!!!!

  • Oh, if Diana would just consent to making a movie, Ewen McGregor IS Jamie Frazier, as the young and the older. What a beautiful man!

  • david wenham or chris hemsworth!! 8D

  • Yes! Alexander Skaarsgard could totally be Jamie.

  • thx for exploring Jamie's actor. Im in left field. Being older I envision Jamie as Pierce Brosnan. True it is easier to age an actor than make him young. Can they cast Gerard B as young Jamie, then Pierce B as mature Jamie? Makeup can do a lot.

  • Gerard Butler!!!

  • Kevin McKidd

  • Ahhhh I love Gerry Butler, but I agree he doesn't look like a 23yr old VIRGIN!!! Now as the older Jamie OH YEAH!! I love this series of books so much I know them almost by heart!! Wish they would make it into a Mini-series awesome!! For Jamie it's difficult but I think Chris Hemsworth has the possiblities of bringing him to life for most of us.....

  • What about Chase Crawford

  • Patrick Wilson needs to be on this list!!!!

  • I really think that Tony Curran has the "Jamie the Red" look - but David Wenham, I want my name to be Claire. I like the idea of Brandon Fraser, but I don't know if he could make it as a red head, and I don't think he has the right voice.

  • Too bad Any Whitfield just passed away, he would have made a good Jamie!

  • None of these guys. Definitly Chris Hemsworth (Thor). He is tall enough and Nordic enough for James Fraser. Can we have Outlander movies after Twilight.

  • Where is Chris "Mensworth" ? Thor!!!

  • My choice for Jamie is Ewan McGregor and for Claire you should think about Juliette Binoche, I guess she is perfect ( and he too). She has the experiences Claire need and he is young enough to be Jamie. So what do you think?

  • just cant see butler as a 22 year old virgin lmbo sorry

  • I would definitely choose Ewan McGregor! <3

He looks just like I've imagined Jamie.

  • I find it amusing that you have a link supporting Gerry as Jamie, but the first person you have on the film is Paul Walker. :))) Anyone here, besides me, seen them together in TimeLine????

  • Some of these actors are sexy & could do the part justice however, most are not big enough. Kevin Durand would be a good choice at 6' 6" 240# and redish hair blue eyes; he can do the accent too. check him out in Robin Hood as Little John.

  • @rockman2561 I think you are right that the height of Kevin Durand is how I see Jamie - very tall. He must be tall.

  • Kellan Lutz. would make a good Jamie

  • Sorry, but most of those men look NOTHING like I picture Jamie looking.....most of them are too small, for one thing. Brendan Fraser is a possibility, but I don't think he could do a Scottish accent justice. My #1 vote for the part of Jamie would absolutely be no one else but GERARD BUTLER! He's big, He's bold, he's gentle, he's sexy ,and most of all, he's a real Scot!

  • Brendon Fraser, I ken - I dinna think another could do as well, and he has right the name, after all. :)

  • Not Simon-- he looks like a pasty wimp.

  • Chris Hemsworth IS Jamie. From the eyes to the build to the way he makes women feel when they look at him!

  • Comment removed

  • I could see Jason F. as Frank :-)

  • What about Chris Hemsworth from Thor? Turn him into a red head and you have a young Jamie.

  • Paul or Simon seem like good choices to me.

  • I am surprised no one has thought of Charlie Hunnam from the Sons of Anarchy to play Jamie.

  • Paul Bettany would be perfect!!! Remember, the actor HAS to be tall. Paul fits the bill on many levels..

  • Alexander Skaarsgard perhaps?

  • And as to age... Jamie is only young in the first two books, people!

  • Too much hotness. Must go rest my eyes. No seriously, I would vote for Tony Curran. Gerry's taller but Tony has the blue eyes (Gerry's are actually grey-green) & the most beautiful red hair, to which I have to admit being *very* partial. Ewan McGregor is one of my all-time favorites though, too. Ay! Too much! ;)

  • Paul Walker would be great as the young Jamie, especially with long hair, which they could enhance with gold and red highlights....but as the older Jamie ????

  • How about Josh Holloway? From "Lost"? He's got it all!!

  • Too bad Prince Harry isn't an actor...that's who I saw when I read the book.

  • David Wenham is the perfect Jamie

  • Matthew Macfadyen would make a perfect Jamie. Next choice Ewan McGregor

  • Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime.

But Matthew McConaughey is an interesting idea....

  • Tom Hardy is jamie. no doubt.

  • Tom Hardy is jamie. no doubt.

  • I don't see any of the actors you chose in the role of Jamie, sorry

  • OMG most of the choices here were ridiculous! I had to laugh. I don't even know why Robert Pattinson was not a choice here. He is soooo much better looking than most. Even Gerard Butler was not a choice here or Orlando Bloom. But out of all of the one's in the video I would have to say either Paul Walker or Ewan Mcgregor. I would say Brendan Fraser too but he is now too old to play Jamie. In his younger days I would've picked him too.

  • I'd say they are all too old, or in the first couple like Paul walker not strong enough facial features to match Jamie's description.

You have to remember Jamie is 23 or 24 in the first book so they have to look that age. Gerard would be perfect for later books when Jamie is more that age.

Get a couple more years and abit of buffing up, on Rupert Grint and maybe he'd be a good Jamie.

  • It's too late for Gerard Butler, though he would have been great 10 or 15 years ago! And have you see Brendan Fraser lately? David Wenham also too old.

  • what about the tall brother from supernatural? he could swing copper colored hair, and he's six foot four. decent actor, blade nose. from the side. kind of a baby face though.

  • @nonesuchnumbernine, thats not a bad idea! If he can pull off the thick scottish accent. He definitely has the facial features for it. And the size

  • ma è stato fatto un film su james e claire??

  • @6diabla6 No, ma molte persone mettono online il loro cast ideale o comunque chi vedrebbero bene nei panni dei personaggi della serie :)

  • @SwarWAITFORITley ah capito grazie =)

  • Mel Gibson in Braveheart!

  • They're only boys, greenhorns... my Jamie ist Mel Gibson in Braveheart!!

  • Jason Flemyng, he's a man, not pretty boy.

  • Henry Cavill is the best choice. I just finished watching the final season of the "Tudors" and I believe he will be the prefect Jamie.

  • Definitely Gerard Butler!!!!!!!!

  • @Valterickus He is to old!

  • I would recommend Kevin McKidd

  • @tiajen I love Kevin McKIdd he was brilliant in "Gunpowder, Treason & Plot" but he is to old to play Jamie!

  • i'm vote for Alexander Skarsgard

  • @stefymaheu I love this actor, but he does not look like a Scott.

  • @mahalcat yes your right

  • i just Hope than the actor will be tall as Jamie in the book....

  • @stefymaheu Henry Cavill who is my pick to play Jamie was amazing in the series the "Tudors" and he is 6' 1".

Here are some videos on YouTube of the actor Henry Cavill in his role of Charles Brandon on the "Tudor". Tell me what you think.

    "Catherine Willoughby & Charles Brandon"

"Charles Brandon takes Brigitte Rousselot as his lover"

    "Margaret & Charles Brandon"

  • @mahalcat i'm agree he look good and he was not to "Hollywood" like Gerard Butler. but please please please not Robert Pattison!!! lol

  • @stefymaheu I can stand Robert Pattison, he really can't act.

  • i'm vote for Alexander Skarsgard

  • What Eric Bana. He was great in Troy.

  • @sylviabisnar I love Eric Bana, but what about Henry Cavill? check him out in the 4th season of the "Tudors"!

  • What about Eddie Redmayne?! He's great!

  • I'd use Tony or Eric. They aren't as "well known" and would be more believable as the caracter.

  • Je crois avoir trouvé Jamie jeune: Michael Praed et Claire : Judi Trott. J"ai visionné des clips de Robin de Sherwood, et mon coeur a fait un bond, tellement Jamie et Claire leur ressemblent

  • None of the above! I have him pictured in my head, none will ever match that!

  • James McAvoy has the Scots as well as amazing emotional range. Brendan Fraser would have been quite good 10 years ago, as would Gerard Butler, though he doesn't sit a horse believably. But then, how do you possibly fit all of Jamie's skills into just one man? Sigh.

  • KEVIN MCKIDD from Grey's Anatomy!

  • Comment removed

  • they need a bigger guy

  • @TavLeg Brendon Frasier's pretty big. How about Vince Vaughn?

  • @BeenFresh91 yes Vince is big 6.4 i think he has the tall but not the face . I dont think Hollywood had a guy like Jamie ... maybe the giant french guy in Asrerix au jeux olympique thats the man .

  • @BeenFresh91 Asterix in olympic game

  • I think about three of those guys on your list might do but, really, give some unknown actor a chance to play the part. I live in the Scottish Highlands and I sometimes wonder if any of the lads walking about might make a good Jamie but all I see are a bunch of inebriated Murtaghs and wee Lord Lovat's men;-)

  • Ewan McGregor all the way. He has that boyish look that embodies Jamie's good-natured personality, and he already has the perfect scottish accent and hair color. He's how I pictured Jamie when I read the novel. Although now after watching the vid I could see some of the others as Jamie as well.

  • I came to post a comment that Josh Holloway would be perfect, than read below. Guess I'm not the only one who thinks so :). He does the long, unruly hair look so well, has the squinty eyes, strong jaw, full lips, straight nose... he can play comical, tough and sensitive. Josh Holloway would be solid... only thing is he could be a just a few years younger for my perfect Jamie.

  • When I heard the idea of Josh Holloway ( of Lost) I got shivers...he's definitely the guy to play Jamie. Hopefully you will add him to your collage...at the beginning. :-)

  • Almost none of these actors would do. Tony Curran is the only one even close, but Jamie is suppose to be huge. Ewan McGregor or Eric Stoltz? Way too small. Gerard Butler, or Tony Curran could do it, but a new face in Scotland might be better.

  • It's Henry Ian Cusick. From Lost. He's Jamie.

  • David Wenham just might be it!!! Ewan is way too short. Keep in mind, Diana herself said big like basketball player big - meaning lean, not too beefy.

  • Robert Pattinson he'd have to beef-up but the accent won't be hard ;)

  • Very nicely done. Check out mine when you get a chance. Let me know what you think.

  • I think the Only actor that in his current physical condition that could play Jamie Fraser would be Gerard Butler. I say that because some of the photos of some of the actors are getting very old. Of them in there Prime. He has the Rough yet Handsome look. He has the Voice and most of all he Embodies the Swagger that you Imagine Jamie has when you read the novels. Agree, Disagree? Let me know. Here or in a private message.

  • Garrett Hedlund!!!! He is perfect, young, tall, handsome and I think he could totally pull off the humor and the romance! He would be perfect!!

  • Tony Curran definately. He can play someone cold, completely bonkers, or hilariosly funny. All the while still be damn sexy. And he wouldn't be faking a scottish accent like some of the other picks.

  • definitely Shawn Ashmore!! has the eyes and intensity

  • Paul Bettany - Ewan is too short, and Gerard is too....burly.

  • @72scameron Oh - I forgot to mention Gerard should be Dougal MacKenzie!

  • mmmm ewan is redhaired, but david wenham is great

  • Henry Cavill

  • There's only ONE choice for Jamie....and that's GERARD BUTLER

  • 1 Brendan Fraser! Awesome!

    2 Tony Curran

    3 Tyler Mane

    4 Ewan McGregor

    5 David Wenham

Mathew McConaughey, only if Jamie is to be sort of gay looking, and American

  • Kevin McKidd?

  • ANDY WHITFIELD star of the STARZ series "Spartacus Blood and Sand." also a movie called "Gabriel." The first instant I saw him as Spartacus, I actually said out loud "That's Jamie!"

  • Hmmm .... I take that comment back about Jason Flemyng for the role of Jamie Fraser. Not a good choice.

  • @DanusiaZach I agree, but he's the closest fit in that list given. Too many of them looked too young, and a couple of them that looked old enough looked either too old or just... not Jamie.

  • The choices of my Jamie, from the list above, would be the following:

David Wenham (he has the exact features of how he is described in the first book)

    Simon Woods

    Jason Flemyny

No to Gerard Butler - he doesn't has the right look for the part of Jamie. I love him to bits, but not for the role of Jamie Fraser.

    ~ Danusia, Toronto, ON CANADA

  • KEVIN MCKIDD!!!

He's even from outside Inverness, in Elgin.

  • I don't like any of the actors, but Tony Curran is worst! He's ugly and looks like a psyko. If he got the part, I would cry for a week and never ever watch the movie. He would ruin the whole outlander saga.

  • Young Jamie- Prince Harry

    Middle Aged Jamie- Ralph Fiennes

Brianna- Laura Prepon ( Donna off of That 70's Show)

  • Matt Goode isn't at all like Jamie to look at...

it's his personality...he has the boyish innocence, maturity, appeal and charm of young Jamie

The heigth, the unruly, thick hair...he can grow a beard

His voice tones are Jamie's He can do the accent

He is the epitomy of the educated, classy, elegant Jamie later on....able to dress and act appropriately at the King's court...

and it was The Lookout, sorry, also "Single Man", but it was his rl interviews that made me think of him as Jamie....

  • How about Matthew Goode (Leap Year, The Outlook, The Watchmen, etc)? He could definitely handle the romance with Claire and the other relationships in the subplots such as the relationship with Lord John and the more gruesome battle scenes. He's young enough for young Jamie and as he ages would be good for the older Jamie...or he might be perfect for Brianna's Rodger.....? He's got the talent to be in this project somewhere!!

  • My Jamie is Ewan McGregor! But I like Paul Walker too!

  • I like Paul Walker he looks similar to the Jamie in my mind... Ewan is my favorite actor, but he doesn't look like the Jamie in my head. The actor who looked closest to the Jamie in my head would have been a red haired Heath Ledger, but alas... :-(

  • Paul Walker!!!!

  • To me, Shawn is a good choice. I LURV Ewan, but he's like 36 now. I honestly don't think Matthew could pull off the accent. ;) Verra' interestin'....

  • I agree with Ajabini. We need to remember that Jamie is only young. The actors suggested are far too old! An unknown naturally redheaded actor would be ideal as Jamie. This way we would not be prejudiced against him or influenced by his earlier work. The same applies to Claire. Surely there is one out there. I think Gerard would be better as Dougal.

  • @mishmi1000 i agree with you. I would really like to pick someone, but all of the are to old. If they ever film the series, they should do an open casting, like you said there has to be a perfect man out there. I saw some good suggestions for claire, but Jamie is too hard to choose! They are all too old. Far to old!

  • Shawn ashmore, David Wenham, Mathew McConaughey its a hard to pick between these three i think they look most like the jamie described in the booki put them in order of best to meh though i think any of these three men would do great. And bring great justice to the movie

  • p.s. all the other choices are too much pretty boys or too "all muscles no brain" looking. i think tony fits the part sooo well as written, not as who i'd "prefer." (i don't find him overly attractive but you can see the depth in him and is the spitting image). That said, he did make a perfect vincent van gogh too! ;)

  • i just watched Doctor Who's vincent van gogh (Starring TONY CURRAN) episode and immediately thought of jamie fraser. that's the FIRST time i've seen someone in acting that reminded me of him so that led me to here. not seeking the actor on my behalf, he sought me out :)

  • tony curran for the win

  • I'd like to see Kevin McKidd as Jamie. (Dr. Hunt from Grey's Anatomy) A true Scotsman, born in Elgin, Scotland.

  • Tony curran

  • Please tell me that Gerard Butler is NOT going to be Jamie!!! He is a one-dimensional actor with no warmth, is not attractive, and has ZERO sex appeal! It will be very hard to even go to watch this movie if he is in the lead.

  • @lynnkip47 i totally agree. i really don't like Gerard Butler as an actor and i think he is far to old for Jamie. But there is no film in making, so noone is actually casting. We just wish ;)

  • I think that you should also put Norman Reedus as Jamie too... hes really fine looking... hehe

  • Perhaps we should reread the description of the man...young...tall, with a broad, good-humored face, dark blue eyes aslant the high, flat cheekbones of a Viking , long mouth curling at the ends as though always on the verge of smiling...and every one of these actors look so ENGLISH with their skinny long faces...

  • I think matthew mcconaughey could be very good as young jamie, but maybe he is to "sunnyboy". But he's tall and strong, his face is clear.

*my english is very bad, i hope you know what i mean*

  • My first choice for Jamie hands down would have to be Henry Cavill.

  • oh my, i imagine the fellow who plays mr. bingley from the most recent pride and prejudice movie as jamie as well! i thought i was alone. for me, it's just because of the red hair and his youthfulness i think. and the relationship between bingley and jane slightly resembles that of jamie and claire - with the equality and respect between them - claire and jane being strong/wise females. mr. bingley is definitely not as clever and rough as jamie though.

p.s. i like the idea of gerard butler :)

  • please, stop mentioning names of people in later books. Its spoiling it for the rest of us. Personally i think they should both be unknowns for the parts of Claire and Jamie. none of these actors look right, either too wimpy, too effeminate or, in the case of Gerard Butler, too old to play a 23yr old.

  • my number one is Zack Ward, and number two is Alan Tudyk.

Gerard Butler has the accent and body, but not the firery red hair~

  • Google Jason Lewis, I think hes the perfect young Jamie.. :)

  • I think Gerard Butler would be better considered for the role of Dougal. I actually thought Dougal and Colum could be Dougray Scott and Angus Macfayden, since they look so much alike. I thought Hugh Jackman might make a good Frank/Jack Randall, but Jason Isaacs seems perfect. What about Kate Winslet for Claire?

  • I have two suggestions for a younger Jamie and an older Jamie

Liam Hemsworth for the younger and

Daniel Craig for the older. If I had to choose one, I'd choose Daniel Craig. I think with a name like Craig, he may be of Scottish descent, he has the triangular, cat shaped blue eyes the author always talks about. and he has the bearing of an influential person, as borne out in his role as James Bond.

  • Hellz yeah, this film rocks. Watched it here: Top Movie Share . net

  • Gerard Butler is a good choice also Tony Curran I think.

Maybe Zack Ward could make it although he's canadian...

  • Gerard Butler was my Jaimie from the very start!

  • I like Brendan Fraser, he looks brave and sturdy enough to withstand the beatings and assaults inflicted on Jamie.

  • Well, of all the current actors I know about and who I think young enough and capable to pull off this role in a convincing way - it would have to be Paul Bettany (although an Englishman and maybe too light-weight) or better Kevin McKidd (cat eyes clearly missing, but the perfect tall, redhaired highland warrior stereotype).

  • I think Elliot Cowan would be perfect,Heath Ledger would've been great too!!!

  • I have to say that any American actor playing Jamie would really ruin the story! It has to be a real Scottish accent coming from a real Scottish actor! I cringed when I saw Matthew Mcconnaghey on there... Jeeeezus! :( Good job putting them together though @Jacqueline001

  • tony curran is awesome

  • their all great

but are your looking for someone with red hair?

  • Ewan McGregor has the range as an actor and can do the age transition...it surprised me when I saw a young and older Jamie in him.

  • I know he probably can't act, and isn't Scottish AT ALL, but check out Aksel Lund Svindal, the Norwegian Olympic skier. Give him long red hair and I think he would be the spitting image of Jamie Fraser! Unfortunately, I don't think he can act, nor pull off a Scottish accent, so boo. :(

  • My Wife picks David Wenham. I pick Ewan McGregor. Your thoughts please couples...

  • Paul Walker is so hot, but other than the eyes and the physique... he's not Jamie. I think WHEN (fingers crossed) they make this movie the actor who plays Jamie should be an actual red head. Tony Curran's got the hair and the nose and he is scottish (right?), but he is not hot enough

  • My choice for Jamie (young & old) is Andy Whitfield (Gabriel & Starz -"Spartacus" series lead) he's tall, reddish blonde hair, and blue cat eyes; he is Jamie. Plus he's a relatively new actor on the scene; born in the U.K., lives in Australia, now if he can pull off the Scottish Brogue, he's a shoe-in!

  • What about Charlie Hunnam for a young Jamie? Gabriel Aubry?

  • Where's Kevin McKidd? At least he has the look of Jamie. Some of these people are ridiculous suggestions.

  • Jamie is only 23 when the series starts...most of these actors would be great for an older Jamie, but not for Outlander.

  • thank you! No wayy Gerard Butler passes for a 20 something virgin! lol

  • WRONG jamie has to be a babe, who can grow facial hair. The only guy you picked who came close was paul walker

  • I like LIAM NEESON for "old" Jamie... but for the "young" .... Ewan McGregor...

  • who is the guy who played a Knight of round table that carried around a hawk all the time, in that movie with kira knightly and Clive owens, I think it was "King Arthur" ? Whoever he was, dye his hair and make him jamie...lol..That guy totally had something special;Butler is too short and chunky to be Jamie, Jamie needs to be strong but tall and lanky like the hawk Knight guy...lol.

  • I love me some Ewan and Matthew, but Jamie is bigger than life. There needs to be an embodiment of charisma, and strength. Hands down Gerard Butler was meant to play this part.

  • Kevin McKidd might be a good choice...

I like the look of Paul Walker but don't know his acting skills and it's going to take someone who knows what he's doing as an actor to pull off the larger-than-life Jamie Fraser.

P.S. NOT BRENDAN Fraser...pardon me, was I just screaming out loud?...

  • Definiely not Paul walker...he's too good looking...to American. Simon woods is better...but he looks too English. OMG definitely not Brendan Fraser. shawn Ashmore maybe...he looks too gentle though Woah....who is this tony Curran? That's getting more like it. That is really close to who i envisioned as jamie. Matthew is too Texan. Jason W is not bad. David w is also not bad but being a fan of LOTR..thtat's what I see. eric could be.

  • At least Ewan MacGregor would have the right accent. Brendan Fraser? No no no! Apart from the name he's NOTHING like Janie!!

  • David Wenham, Ewan MacGregor, Gerard Butler

  • hi!!! i remember coming back to this video over and over again about a year ago - i love outlander!!! what was the name of the song that was originally on here? xox

  • *laughing* it's pretty much a bit of each of them isn't it? I can see elements of Jamie in a lot of actors, but non of them are the right fit. He's a complex character and I think it's going to take a special person to play him. I hope they stay away from Hollywood though and get fresh talent.

  • I think maybe Thorsten Kaye (Zach) from All My Children would be a sure bet! He's got the rugged good looks and the build to go with it!
