The "Jeep" was actually not as efficient as you might think... frequent breakdowns... excessively heavy for such a small vehicle... underpowered... and lousy fuel economy (for a four cylinder). I have a military bike and sidecar. I'd take that over a Jeep any day (Fast, tough, carries 3 fully armed and equipped troops + heavy machine gun + trailer, AND it gets 50 mpg!).
Your right, the German kubelwagen was better. The U.S. military ran test on the kubelwagen and compared it to the willys jeep. The military found out that the German kubelwagen was better.
This contains a few glaring errors- the name jeep does not derive from 'General Purpose' but the designation G=Government and P=80in wheelbase. Also the vehicles at 1:46 are Dodge 3/4 tons.
