Oh my god. I just read all the other Comments. You people are complete fucking morons. First off, I didnt see any wind. Saws only Kickback when dumb asses file the riders all the way down. Also a good way to burn your clutch out and ruin a perfectly good saw. But by the looks of it...that dumb ass shouldnt be running a saw. Let me tell you people now...you have NO idea how dangerous falling trees is. Last year it took first place from Crab fishing for the WORLDS most dangerous job. I loved it!

Dillonfromforks, why so angry? The term is rakers not riders and saws can easily kick back even if the rakers are not filed too low. If the tip of the bar hits something, a nail, a limb, anything the saw can potentially kick back. Okay, well that's all I need to get some rest now I have some tree felling I need to do tomorrow.

Hire a professional, working from a ladder up in a tree is the most dangerous thing you can do. It doesn't take much to knock that ladder from the tree.

Hey there tucanchew, yes it can be lucrative. I make a living at it but it is one of the most dangerous jobs as well. If you do decide to get into climbing great, I wish you well, just be sure to get proper training. It would be wise to take a felling class to learn the correct procedures for felling trees, that is if you don't know them allready. Having the knowledge and understanding of how to take down a tree from the ground will benefit you in a tree.

yeah I got a good idea about bucking trees I droped a couple and read a little bit about it. I think there's alot of factor's and your right! And I probably won't follow throught with it? But hat's off to you all, and thanks for the advice. take care.

Should have used a rope and cut a 'delayed wedgie' in the direction you want the tree to fall.

and we cut a wedge on the correct side

Was doing the exact same thing as you on Saturday and looked up tree felling accidents because I couldn't believe I was still alive after going up a ladder (acrophobia - vertigo) and felling seven boughs running up to 60 feet above my head. I had done a bit before but I had a feeling of 'doom' at the start and huge elation at the end. 60 feet of tree can weigh half a ton. It sure ain't easy, wind factor, escape routes and a chainsaw that wants to turn on you. Good old 'kickback' its called.
