@lovegirls951 Im on the same dilema here. canon 300HS lacks on the video but has good quality, but the sony HX9V has amazing video quality,but is too big with not many effects. It does catch a good panorama and HDR, but the Canon has amazing capabilities as well. Please, if you can help me as well. Im planning to buy one of them for Christmas and im trying to decide. Im a fan of photography, so i expect much. :)

Good review. I can't believe how great the video looks...coming from a compact viewfinder. I'm traveling overseas soon and I'm hesitant about lugging around an slr. I hope the photos turn out great. I think I would prefer to photomerge photos for a panoramic view though.

Sony HX9V Zoom problem please check the zoom before purchasing. we have the zoom unstable problem in the latest production of HX9V during the video mode. specially in 9.8x, 11x, 12x, 14x & 15X. it will start jumping up & down during the zoom even you mount it in the tripod ! I met another 2 guys in the Sony Service Dept. they all have this problem. To review this problem, type "HX9V zoom problem" in the search of youtube.

Great Video, thanks for the info.  I am now deciding should I get the HX9V, or Fujifilm Finepix F550EXR. Finepix has very close spec to the HX9V, but with a much cheaper price tag. I own this camera I bought it in amazon overseas all the way to my country in Ecuador. Its frasking awesome there are tons off sutuff in the camera its like Sony decided tu put every feature in this camera. The video is superb, there are no words to say it, the video quality its incredible.

I've got a Lumix Panasonic DMC-TZ10 and it's very similar to this, minus the 1080p video and it's very good! Both of these are contenders for a high end compact for someone who doesn't want a full SLR :)

Quality wise, I'd say the Canon Powershot ELPH 300HS is better. However, the zoom is MUCH faster when recording video on this camera. Interesting comparison! Great video, Mark

@aigamerDS I say the way He mentiond BULKY he told us a few times he does not liek the thickness, andwished it wassmall. but who knows his is a lender so maybe if he puts his hands on one he can say yes its a great upgrade. I say it is identical, in all ways, and I am sure 16X optical, wins over 5X optical, as well some other features. I deffently wil lsay a longer battery life in ways. I went from from the WX-9 returned and purchased the HX9. all cams have their ups/downs

Hey soldier, can you test it with some audio bass?? I need a new camera for an event on the 17th September, either thinking the Canon 550D or this one you did in the video review since it's nice and compact, also great in video.

I see that it also has "stereo speakers", but you haven't really tested sound (nor in any videos).

Please check out my recorded clips at events on my current camera (Canon SX200is) and you'll see what i mean with the distortion.

@Aesthetikal You'll want a decent dedicated mic if you want good audio at events with good PA systems. Most built in and cheaper mics will just crap out on you. Go with a 550D for image quality, and I'd recommend connecting an external mic to it.
