I'm not worthy, but I feel blessed to have experienced a player like Allan in my lifetime. What days we live in! Let's all be inspired my his genius and strive to play music worthy of these trying times we live in. The world needs us now more than ever. Thanks, Allan, for showing us the way of a true master.
@wordauras You're a jackass - and you missed the whole thing. I'm so sorry for you, but you just had to comment and show your ignorance. You don't deserve to carry Allan's gear to the truck. Go see a Kiss concert or something....
Fantastic music, it's got it all. What sets AH apart isn't just the amazing melodic improvisation technique, it's his ability to develop unique chordal harmonies and progressions. They're rich with detail and structure, giving him a giant pallete of melodic choices for his solos. So many "guitar gods" of today solo over pedal tones or i-IV-V or other simple progressions. Most would be totally lost having to keep up with the changes in any typical AH song - except Greg Howe (Proto-Cosmos)!
"Fred" is one of my favorites - Thanks for the post. I saw him play with the late Tony Williams at the Bottom Line in NYC & again in a smaller club, in the 70's. Both shows were awesome! Allan is a superb musician and a genuinely nice person. I would have loved to have seen him with Soft Machine...
wow....thanx for posting this...saw allan a few years back in seattle....very cool, sociable cat...i drew a picture of him and the band...billy childs was on keys...gary on bass...and chad was kiliing it....great band....they signed my drawing, too...
I recently saw Mr. Holdsworth , May 11th at the Detroit music hall. This very trio ..he played awesome. Also met him too and chatted for almost 15 minutes..super nice guy.
UEA 1979 Allan trots off, we buy him a couple of pints at the interval, me thinks he had four in total, then back for the second half...............wow.........
I was at the gig and he really was nervous! He can produce this, even when his hands were shaking! Doesn't the first chord just make you feel great? What a sound.
some fine drumming going on there. very cool sound. just had a great audio experience. going to miss holdsworth tonight at the baked potato but this makes up for it a bit.
Man I love the drum solos on Fred.

Scott Henderson and Frank Gambale can hang with Allan way more musically than Howe. But he is very fast and talented.
