Just finished the book. It's hard to believe anyone can cycle 18000 + miles on a bike and the only place he got mugged was America. Shame on you American's.
What a Bloody "HERO" this guy and Alistair Humphreys is, after reading their books its enough for you to sell the house leave tha crap job and hit the road.. Well done son!!!!
Hi guys, I recently bought the 'The Man Who Cycled The World' of Mark Beaumont and I really suggest this book (ISBN 978-0-552-15844-2) to all those interested in what this great guy did. The book is simply amazing and gives a clear picture of how determination can take you a long way .... well done Mark you are a great inspiration to all cyclists and to all others planning to embark on a new challenge
I recently met him and spent time with him and his mother after a talk he gave. He wrote a message of encouragement on my bike and his mother said to contact her if I needed any help trying to organise a solo ride I'm doing to Italy.
What a wonderfull childhood Mark and his sisters had...and what an incredible youngman he has turned out to be with his worldwide achivements a mindset of adventures....also a most sincere person[ to quote] "I am who I am because of everyone"
See also 5000 mile Asia bike ride. Here you can follow mountain bike off roading. Enjoyed your ride through America. Lots of memories I no, I am that man. Enjoyed.
The problem with thes guinness records is that they never stop.. then someone else comes along at does it in 3 days less... Guinness = battle of the egos
It's not as simple as that. There's a matter of curiosity involved -- a basic instinct for all animals. Our species is no exception.
When I read about this in the paper -- a long time ago -- I wondered how many miles I could do in a single day. I was able to go about 40 miles. And I'm just some guy who takes his bike everyday to work.
So you can imagine how an endurance athlete would think about it. To see what his/her potential is. Sure the ego factors in, but it's not just about that.
I like at how 7.10m You see the trucks in what seems deep south and then you get the boy speak with what initially sounded like a strong Texan accent. Am i alone thinking this?
getting back to the man,the challenge the success i for one am more than happy to share the planet with mark beaumont and so respect what he has done.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I am Mark Beaumont. It wasn't enough for me to break the world cycling record so I sucked Satan's corporate cock. I am what I am because I am a fucking sell-out.
Right. So what position do you have to be in to pass comment? And let's be honest £18,000 is a piss in a swimming pool of how much he would have got from Orange.
so what have you done? if he did get paid so what? its not like he needs to give his life to charitys, he got £18,000 thats better then the £0 you have got.
The "so-what-have-you-done" argument is pretty tired, lame and lazy. Anyone can pass comment on anything. A sell-out means to abandon principles, whether you are in a band or a fisherman. Breaking a round the world cycling record is an amazing thing. Getting into bed with an MNC is an abandonment of principles. Why didn't he do an advertising campaign with Greenpeace or Oxfam?
And i know what sell out means, i was saying your talking as if he is a band. he cycled around the world for the jorney why does that mean his abandoned anything?
he raise 18,000 for charity. not everything he does has to be for chairty.
ur the sort of person that exspects more because they have given more, like the people that slate bill gates for having a big house and doing charity work.
I liked the way that rather than address anything I said you just repeated your question. You're obviously a smart guy. With regard to 'Satan', I used it as a metaphor for evil practise in the Capitalist world. A principle! Principles don't get old.
im addressing what you say about him selling out, once again his done loads why should he have to give more? what gives you the right to say that?
sounds like ur not the one adressing what i say.
and once again yes i know satan was a metaphor for evil and im saying all this hippie bullshit you talk about is getting old. its only a moblie phone company nothing to stress out about.
Look mate the overall point I'm making is that everything that is done is done because there's a bag of money at the end. And that's fucking sad. Doing what he did is an amazing achievement but why cash-in on it? If that makes me a hippy, then so be it, I couldn't give a toss.
yeah your right, but this aint the perfect world and its not his fault he wants to make money for something he worked for. and why shouldnt he, he is a very good man and worked exstreamly hard for this.
I kinda agree in a sense, Mr Beaumont has my upmost respect for what he did, however he would have gotten more if he hadnt jumped into bed as you say. hopefully doing one thing wont stop him from promoting more worthy organisations.
p.s i cried and clapped my hands when i saw ur arrival in paris, though i knew it ws a few weeks earlier that it happened. you got a great family as well.
I love watching this. Well he was not supported but had camera support hence the nice pics:) i would like to try this for fun and adventure. maybe one can try this with a 1.0 litre car, cheap scooter or try walking (this will take 3yrs at best)
He came over as such a humble man and I believe that is what got him through difficult situations. He never came over as a threat to anyone. Pity about those Two Arseholes in America who mugged him.(DRUGS AGAIN involved).Pity Mark didnt have Steven Segal with at the time. Mind you if he did get the better of them in England. HE would have been arrested.
Mark. What a man! Totally brilliant tv programme for the last few days. It was incredible. Yeah, you should at least get a mention in the sports personality thing. To go 8 or so times the Tuour de France, day after day. Brilliant, & you're a veggie!
Brilliant. He seems like a very genuine, likable guy. It makes you want to try and achieve something like that. He must be really tough to do 100miles a day.
Amazing - well done, Mark! As a fellow Scottish-born touring cyclist, I can relate to your experiences on the journey. My mum is from Perth and my dad is from Dundee and I've done about 20,000km of (slower) bike touring.
Sir, you have my respect.
PS: Your sisters are hot.
