Today the hamams in Istanbul are old, beautifully tiled, elegant and a meeting place, a place to unwind! The film is about two men who fall in love. Simple as that!! This film opened the film festival in Philadelphia and was a brilliant success. Yes, I have my own copy..... and I miss Istanbul.

beautiful, beautiful film... absolutely incredible. the slow pace, the culture of the people... i was enveloped in the whole story... the relationship with memo that fransesco had was unique. although it was homosexual, during that time homosexuality was not uncommon. especially in a turkish bathhouse, things were done that were left untold. i just finished watching this movie, like literally, 2 minutes ago... i am sad about the ending, and would have loved to see a happily ever after. 5 stars!

Just a note for the guys with no education and the nitwits: HAMAM was directed by a Turk, takes places in Roma then moves to glorious Istanbul. I know both cities well.
Today the hamams in Istanbul are old, beautifully tiled, elegant and a meeting place, a place to unwind! The film is about two men who fall in love. Simple as that!! This film opened the film festival in Philadelphia and was a brilliant success. Yes, I have my own copy..... and I miss Istanbul.

beautiful, beautiful film... absolutely incredible. the slow pace, the culture of the people... i was enveloped in the whole story... the relationship with memo that fransesco had was unique. although it was homosexual, during that time homosexuality was not uncommon. especially in a turkish bathhouse, things were done that were left untold. i just finished watching this movie, like literally, 2 minutes ago... i am sad about the ending, and would have loved to see a happily ever after. 5 stars!

What is well known and what is truth are two different things. The Etruscan people who were Turks sailed off from Turkey to Italy and were the founders of the Roman Civilisation. Turks had water irrigation systems and Turkish baths long before 500BC. It is not called a 'Turkish bath' for nothing. We just don`t have contact issues, maybe you have issues because you`re still not shure what your sexual direction is.

There's just as much homosexuality amongst the Italians, Greeks, Turks & Native Americans as there is amongst the Anglo-styled societies, the only difference being that the latter is more open about it, to their credit.
This tends to occur in the more industrialized nations & more industrialized portions of nations, though, I haven't quite made the connection as to why this tends to be the case....

It's unnatural in a way how distant guys think they need to be. Even if a kneee accidentally touches another knee, the guys say, "sorry, man" as if it's a crime. We need to lighten up a lot.

This film was called "Steam: The Turkish Bath", and was written/produced/directed by Ferhan Ozpetek. Some of the dialogue is in Italian. In Italian the title is "Il Bagno Turco". In Turkish the title is "Hamam"
