Do you know the size of USA? you could have it in a neutral site, but seeing as how dc and charleston are like 200 + miles apart, would make for much less of an atmosphere.. its not like spending an hour on the train from the north of england to wembley.
To tell you the truth, i like the USL better than the MLS, because first of all the kits are supplied by more than one supplier, they have way better team crest, and i think that they with a little bit more passion
the open cup has been around since like 1912 and major league soccer has only been in existance since 1996 (hence mls cup has only been around that long). the question isnt how long a trophy has existed, but how important it is (to players, fans, teams). i would say mls cup is #1, superliga is #2, champions league is #3 and open cup is #4. the champions league might be higher in the future but since it's in the mls off-season it's less regarded. superliga for the $1m and since it's us vs mexico.
But Superliga means nothing in the grand scheme of FIFA-sanctioned championships. US Open and MLS Cup and Supporters Shield get you to Champions League. Champions League gets you to the FIFA Club Cup where you might play Manchester or Boca Juniors for world recognition. What does Superliga get you? Money and that's it.
Definitely the MLS Cup. Then probably the SuperLiga or Champions League. Then the US Open Cup (this). Fact is, most MLS sides do not even send their best sides and do not play their starters until the semifinals. The Open Cup is definitely a less beloved trophy - although I'm not really sure why. It should be the equivalent of the FA Cup in England but it's just not looked at as such. Maybe one day it will be viewed as a bigger accomplishment and teams will start to take it serious!
Well my bad. I'm a bit rusty on my geography... They both start with a Mo and end with a co. One's a tiny nation south of France and the other is an African country also south of France which also speaks French as an official language. It's not ignorance, it's an honest mistake, fuckface.
Do you really need to be such a douche? Do you get off on trying to rile people off via the internet when you don't have actual balls in real life? I actually have a life outside of YouTube and it took you a year to respond to me. Get a life, sir or madam.
Actually, DC United is considered the most successful team in American Soccer, with 12 trophy wins including 4 MLS Cups, 4 Supporter's Shield, 2 US Open Cups, 1 InterAmerican Cup, and 1 CONCACAF Champions Cup. With the best Supporters in the US as well. All that and they have much love for their fans. I love Bobby Boswell who use to play in DCU, so I have no hate towards Houston regardless.
Excellent job DCU! 12 Trophies now, where's this one going to fit?! What an amazing and personable team, you show love back everytime. I love you for that United.
Just came back from the game! My boys...awesome as always! My Barra Brava...awesome as always (I am so proud). DCU deserves this win. There is NOTHING like actually being there in front of the action. I'm in love with this team! The cup was beautiful! Well, that makes 12 cups/trophys for my boys making them the most successful MLS team! Dale Dale Dale Dale-O!! Mis campiones!
Galaxy a good team... All teams have their downs one time or another. Galaxy has great players - I think the problem may be the training or management. Thanks for the support.
yeah, haha... most people seem to not be able to stand him, but for some reason I don't mind him at all. This looks like it was a great game, good job to DC, but battery held their own.
Battery FTW

see this espn blog for reasons why some mls sides possibly purposely lose in other tournaments:

Champions League #1
MLS Cup #2
Open Cup #3
I'll rank Superliga when they decide to pay the players their hard earned money and, even then, it would be below the Open Cup.

Superliga is a joke. It's just a bunch of exhibition matches vs. Mexican clubs.

Yes, Marcelo Gallardo is originally from River Plate. DC United actually acquired him from PSG though.

Also none of the players really care that they just won a cup. Pathetic.

there's a video of the team celebrating and they all seemed very excited to me

After the game was over the players had no reaction of winning a trophy. I didn't see it.

Max Bretos is such a joke. Also why the hell did they have to play this at D.C. why didn't they find a neutral ground?
