  • Bernie and Elton... great team. Love the use of the harpsicord in this. I love this album in general.

  • let's not forget the amazing arrangements by Paul Buckmaster and production by Gus Dudgeon

  • classic, classic Elton!!

  • Literally historic.

  • At that time he played music so good you never heard before.

  • One of my favorite songs. I love this video!!!!

  • "Your love protects my fear"

    <3

  • 23 years old elton was ahead of his time in 1970

  • one of my fav of

  • Lovely song from an intimate album that deserves to be better known. The new Elton album The Union with Leon Russell may appeal to fans of early Elton more than most his post-70s stuff

  • Actually it IS a harpsichord and its actually MY harpsichord. Sits in my living room as I type this. Its an instrument Thomas Goff (a member of the Royal Family) built in 1959 and loaned it to the BBC for the recording we see. To politely correct some inaccuracies from Jazzpiano10.. Yes its a Double Manual instrument, but the disposition is Upper manual 8' and 8'Lute (nazale), Coupler, Lower manual 16', 8',4' 8'Harp. Elton obviously only used the 8' Lute stop in this piece. There!

  • @Tat2NY

I'd sell it for what it's worth mate. Sounds horrible.

  • fabulous always

  • I love his music and I've seen him in 1973, 1980, 1984, 1995 and just recently with Billy Joel in early Fe. 2010! Excellent voice(beautiful)

  • The Best 2:20 min Ever :)

  • superb !

  • farfisa!!

  • taupin / john will go down in history as one of the best songwriting teams.

  • One of my favorites to play since i first heard it in that Australian live concert. Never heard nor saw the original til now....thanks so much.

  • Unfortunant for you ,you still havn't heard the original . Its even better,

  • This is Pure Beauty...thank you for posting~~

  • Elton john will live on forever even when he dies

btw plz check out my channel if i get 100 channel views i will try to make a video

  • Was this album written by Mozart or elton? the orchestral arregments are phenomenal!! for a young elton 23 years old on 1970)

  • @cocodriloon certainly they are great. But it was actually arranged by Paul Buckmaster.

  • @cocodriloon it was written by bernie taupin.

  • @cocodriloon bernie taupin wrote the lyrics.

  • FOR YOU DREW! You're my guardian angel

  • you're pure and you're gentle

with a growth that's so rough

  • it's with the grace of a dove, not with a growth that's so rough

  • The Purest Love Song Ever Written. Period.

  • I just love this song...I sing it to my daughter as a lullaby. This one, along with Your Song and Skyline Pigeon are great lullabyes!

  • This is not a clavichord - it is a harpsichord by Thomas Goff and Joseph Cobby.

  • Cool :)

Thanks For The Correction, We All Need To Know How Beautiful The Harpsichord Sounds :)

    And The Man Has Skills......

    ::EJ4Eva::

  • Wow! The Clavichord....Coool!!

    Your Love Protects My Fear....

I Need You To Turn To when I Am So Blind....

You Can Paint Your Smile On :)

My Reason For Living Was For Loving You

    I Wonder Sometimes.....

You're My Guardian Angel, Who Keeps Out The Cold

    ::gorgeous::

  • As growing old, yes that was something here in Belgium with my sister back in 1971 (I was 11 and she 13) together on cassette adore this song : what wonderfull and 10.000 times on vynil listening ! For her it was that one, and for me it's gives me back good memories OK.....Very very good song (classical)Thank you for sharing (Belgium)

  • Just amazing.

    Elton you´re the best ever.

  • I got goosebumps from this one...so sweet...

  • elton's voice was superior at this time of his life. he had a magnificent range just listen to "yellow brick road" it a shame they had to play around with his vocal chords.

  • Beautiful...

  • wonderful harpsichord great song elt 1970

  • Does anyone have the whole BBC In Concert performance? I'd love to see it.

  • I have just uploaded your song which began the concert

  • If you want to see the song he sang before he sang border song, I have just uploaded it...

  • Man, I don't know how anyone could prefer the live in australia version. Elton was pretty much forced to do that concert...he had growths on his vocal chords that could have ended his career. I much prefer his pre-operation voice...at least he had the option of using his full vocal range, now he's forced to always sing in the lower registers.

  • I know his voice was shot, but I still like most of what was on LIA...his rough singing added to some of the songs. For example 'Tonight' sounds MUCH more powerful and emotional than the thin dull album version.

  • Excellent! A firm example of what is meant by "Classic Rock."

  • Love this song. Certainly underrated.

  • I like the way that he sings later on. His voice got better with time. I prefer the "Live in Australia" version over this one much more, except for the Harpsichord, that was coooool.

  • this is a wonderful love song, I prefer this harpsichord version than the ''live in australia'' version, although it was an amazing album : all of his old classical songs.

  • Yes, it is a harpsichord. You should find it cited on the inside sleeve of the "Elton John" LP, which was first released in 1970.

  • not quite. the strings are hit by a piece of brass(tangent). no escapement, no springs, just pure touch. Check out clavichords com

  • btw thats a harpsicord not clavicord

  • what´s the difference???

  • really. Ones smaller?

  • yea a clavicord is smaller, has diagonally strung strings, and instead of the strings being picked with a plectrum, there are sticky pads that make sound when the are taken off the string.

  • @rockermad a few letters :) :)

  • @jazzpiano10

    It's not a friggin harpsichord

  • @gwuerritto68 oh yeah? then what is it? its a dual manual harpsichord with 8' and 4' strings. Foot, by the way refers to the octave not the actual length.

Look it up sometime, before you post something, rather rudely, in an area that you're clearly ignorant.

  • @gwuerritto68 Yes it is. It's a dual manual harpsichord.

  • Brilliant this is really early in his career it must be quite rare thanks for posting it!

  • nice :)
