Both cars werent stock, it is a fully built sti, piston, rods,valve springs,cams full engine management etc. The porsche had plenty of aftermarket parts, Single turbo conversion, it was built for highway. high tune for 800hp, low tune 650hp daily something like that the owner told us. So as I said it was a fun race. Not putting the porsche down, I love boxer engines....

I like STi's very much, but if you take "modding" ito the equation.....
10K for a K24/18g bolt on kit (Protomotive) and the 996 is at 620-640hp..can do less than 6 seconds from 60 to 130 mph... and trap 130+ in the quarter mile...
Or 23-24K for a Garret kit form Switzer (for example) and the 996 is at 700hp to the wheels (near 800 at the crank).....
STI's are fast as hell, but the 996 probably has tons of potential too. If you've got the money to buy a Porsche, you've probably got the money to build it up too.

nice, the charcoal grey must be nice also. my STI is stock for now, I will probably leave it mostly stuck (engine and suspension wise) until the warranty is up. right now all I've done is get some all-season tires for the winter (that are mounted on the BBS's from the previous gen STI). planning on maybe getting the chargespeed lip kit, an invidia cat back, and a few other small things. After the warranty will probably get a stage 2 tune as well as a turbo-back exhaust. nothing huge! lol
hmmm. thats cool. i dont really have any high hp goals either for my rsx. just want 350-375 for a super fun daily driver. when i get a 240sx this winter or next spring i may be turning the rsx into a track car.
true... 350ish is probably the most that any one really needs as a daily...though watch you will be burning front tires really quickly! lol.
though if i were getting a 240, i'd turn the 240 into a track car and DD the RSX. RSX would be more comfortable on the streets, whereas the RWD 240 would be better on a track but more uncomfortable on the streets. IMO.

Yeah STi and Evo are awesome space and comfort and power when needed. I would buy a STi and hook it up to around 500hp and i bet you its still cheaper then a 996 or ZR1 and yes it takes no more then 15k to make a STi motor Over 500hp
@Psalmz150 EM - 1-2k (hydra is more even) Turbo - 2k (less if you go internal wg) short-block with CP pistons and billet crank - 6k FMIC - 1k Injectors, Fuel pump, meth injection - 500 TBE - 1k Header - 500 Tune - 500-1k Twin/Tripple clutch - 500-1k Very quickly gets to 15k...it might be cheaper on a 2JZ, 4g63, but the EJ25T has crap pistons and you need to do something about that before you get much above 400hp or you'll eat a motor. Else it would be closer to 10k.
The 996 has long ass legs, they can hit 200mph. The subie is more low/mid range gearing, designed for rally and uneven road conditions, the Porsche is for the Autobahn.
There were also different kits you could get from the factory like the X50 turbo upgrade which made them wicked as hell!
I concur, you can build Porsche killer for 10k on top of a STis (used 15-18k) price tag. Not much can compete with a 10 second car for 25k with AWD and bullet proof tranny.

my 05 STi still on stock turbo (3,000 in mods) 0-60 in 4.1, 368hp @ crank, qtr mile 12.51 on Cobb OTS map. total paid 28,000 for car and mods. if i were to go gt35r turbo upgrade on stock internals, i would pull a 996 in a straight. if i did 5 grand in suspension making the car a total of $33,000, the 996 would have a run for its money at the track too. so for 33 grand, what car out there will compare?

Money isn't that issue, putting the most expensive turbo on WRX won't make it faster, but you need to tune it. Seeing a fast WRX make me respect the tuner made that happen(like one in this video). the scoobs feel quicker cos iv drove a few but they are all torque so get a blast of power from 3k to about 6k whereas the m3 has a longer power delivery from 3k till 7k so they dont actually feel quick but in reality they are, the secret weapon for all m3 owners is to try and get a 3.64 diff and lightweight flywheel , the difference is unbelievable. the car becomes much quicker and becomes the scoobs nightmare, i was racing an sti yesterday and he couldnt believe the quickness of my car !

Indeed, porsches are actualy under tunned to insure reliablitiy, comfort and preciseness.
If you chip a porsche you can easily crank 60-150 "real' hp and torque.....
Theres plenty of companies, like Ruf, BSR or what ever.

This Turbo does 0-60 in 3.9.
the sti stock around 4.5-8 or higher.

my 05 STi still on stock turbo (3,000 in mods) 0-60 in 4.1, 368hp @ crank, qtr mile 12.51 on Cobb OTS map. total paid 28,000 for car and mods. if i were to go gt35r turbo upgrade on stock internals, i would pull a 996 in a straight. if i did 5 grand in suspension making the car a total of $33,000, the 996 would have a run for its money at the track too. so for 33 grand, what car out there will compare?

I test drove a modded STi 02 model.. Ecutek 3 tune and turbo and exhaust. Wasnt as quick on boost as my WRX. Mine is modded though.

AuronVar, you are missing the point. The fun about Japanese import is, it requires skill(for mods), and because of it, it got the personality of the owner. Money isn't that issue, putting the most expensive turbo on WRX won't make it faster, but you need to tune it. Seeing a fast WRX make me respect the tuner made that happen(like one in this video). I won't give any respect for a rich guy who could just buy a super car, b/c there is no skills, creativity or personality requires for it.

i have a B6 A4 with a GT3071R turbo; 2.0L Eurospec small block with forged rods and pistons,walbro 255 lph FP, Bailey DV(no gay ass BOV) 660cc injectors, stage 3+ spec clutch, TurboXS MBC, awe catback exhaust, 3inch downpipe and I pray some high school punk who just got his new suburu from mommy and daddy tries to test me. Noone has yet and I wish they would. Im sure theres some subi out there that can take me but at least i go home with an Audi:) Not enough can be said about german engineering!

I dont give a shit how quick a suburu is, I dont care if it had a god damn veyron engine, I still would rather drive the slowest porsche in the world over the fastest suburu any day of the week. A porsche is a porsche and a suburu is a suburu. There is no substitute....and its really true..hahahah. Check out the new GT2's then tell me if you still want a suburu..hahahah. Im sure it costs 150k but its probably the best car in the world for the cash/ or a New ZR1 is. Two best cars hands down.

i agree with you totaly, my 94 m3 is all over these subarus, why do they think they are so fkn cool, its the ugliest car in the world , its only a turbocharged family saloon for fk sake ! every time i meet a scooby on the road they never try to take me because they know they are gonna have a problem, they are only good at 0-60 after that they are in deep shit, and i always pull away. and that includes the sti. oh and did i mention 35 mpg vs about 20 mpg ! you couldnt give me one for free.

i have an sti and hearby kick scooby out of the subaru club. hitting the handling limit is not hard, they understeer at moderate speeds until you put sway bars on them. give credit where it's due, 911 turbos have every day driveability with supercar performance. you're not a car fan, you're a fanboy.

the scoobs feel quicker cos iv drove a few but they are all torque so get a blast of power from 3k to about 6k whereas the m3 has a longer power delivery from 3k till 7k so they dont actually feel quick but in reality they are, the secret weapon for all m3 owners is to try and get a 3.64 diff and lightweight flywheel , the difference is unbelievable. the car becomes much quicker and becomes the scoobs nightmare, i was racing an sti yesterday and he couldnt believe the quickness of my car !
