Ff he doesn't have a sense of humour....oh well. He's hardcore too; he's sitting with Louis shoving $100 after $100 in the machines. As for the joke, I'm an American and understand Theroux's humour.
Don't really care how much money he's putting in the slot machines.
Glad you got Louis' joke. Maybe I was being a little harsh, but the impression a lot of us get is that Americans don't get a lot of our jokes.
That said, there is A LOT of comedy from the States that I find extremely funny - Simpsons, South Park, Curb Your Enthusiasm and much more - and that's all smart and refined stuff, so I'm sure it's not the case that people don't get jokes.
the way he pronounces his vowels is much more in line with the American accent, like "not" pronounced more like "nAt" as opposed to "naught" (the latter being canadian; much the same way Americans say "sawrry" and canadians say "sorry"). So while he may be from Toronto, I'd say he has either spent a number of years in the States or was born there.

Saying "first" on a BBC video is like being the fist one to yell "YES!!! YES!!!" in a library. It's amusing to other people, but not a bragging point.
why is the gambler asking the casino guy if he wants to do it...

"Why didn't they give you the big room?"
"They don't have any bigger."
That sums up the humour gap between Americans and Brits right there.

if you watched the entire program, they say that the bloke is from Toronto.
Chapas45 2 years ago
Is Toronto no longer part of the Americas then?
It is, by the way, in case you're struggling with answering that. And his answer absolutely epitomises the aforementioned gulf.
gregtube88 2 years ago
When people say "America" they usually mean the U.S.
Chapas45 2 years ago
Yes, I realise that. And I did actually mean that myself in my original post.
I must say, the guy doesn't sound like he has a Canadian accent to me. Can anyone put me right on that one???
Whatever, he clearly doesn't get Louis' joke, which is pretty embarrassing for him, but pretty funny for the rest of us.

This bell-end didn't, though, that's for sure.

Having watched it back, you could be right about him being Canadian, although I would prefer a native's confirmation about that.

To be fair, there are no clocks in casinos.
Probably he lost track of time, and ended up spending a couple of decades there.
