YES, one animator can be responsible for an entire film. In the early days of TRON, Edwin Catmull worked mostly independently. He was the leading man in CGI at Lucasfilm and PIXAR after he had created the CGI Paint System at New York Institute of Technology. It was at NYIT that the CGI in TRON was conceptualized. I studied CGI at NYIT in 1991 using those very same systems. Unlike cell animation, the software can do much of the work.
What i dont like at todays CG-Movies or Graphics afterall, is this restlessness and over-perfect scenery. Everything has to make an reaction on action Stunning images, but no time for the viewer to recognize and capturing the scene. This is one of the reasons why i like the old TRON more than the actual one, cause the old one gives an unreal impression - as it should be.
@RamiroR It says, "In the future" it'll be possible for one person to make something like Shrek. I'm inclined to think that'll be true in a few years. Flatland is feature-length and was animated entirely by one person on a home computer. Just a couple of decades ago that would've been impractical. Three decades ago Jurassic Park was impossible. Computers and software are getting more capable all the time.
The nostalgia has worn off, what's so great about some cheap animated pos movie? That's not progress, it's just an el cheapo excuse for not hiring real artists.
i don't think that only one person can create an animated film because the collective ideas of a group of people is what makes film so interesting. Then again, a novel is interesting and it is only the creativity of one person, so i may stand corrected.
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! This video has so much incorrect information in it that its nothing more than eye candy. Its sad to think that people think that they are learning from documentaries nowadays when its nothing but a bunch of drivel thrown together with some sprinkles of facts. Do the research next time and get things right. Discovery Channel. You suck!
well, it really seems that Dreamworks produced this documentary. It's all about that shrek was the first groundbreaking feature animated film in history. When sherk was released Pixar finished their 4th film. And Dreamworks released AntZ after Pixar made a Bug's life, how interesting.
@Neuroplasm I can't find any info on it anywhere? Are you sure it's called this? I really to use this as a reference for an essay I'm writing, but I'll have to use the original name and broadcaster.
@XanderX84 actually some guy actually set out to do just that couple of years back, independent on a mac, dont know if he finished, but i saw part of it and it was not bad
The film was called 'Fiat Lux' and was created by Paul Debevec, if you google his name his homepage is the 1st on the list. For some reason youtube won't allow me to post the URL
Like most computer related documentaries on Discovery, this one is short sighted and incomplete, but still earns a "B-". Use this video as a "springboard" for your own independent, more complete research.
Heres information about the original documentary, hope it helps :) Program was Called 'Science Of Animation' Aired On Discovery Science Recorded to DVD 27th December 2005 Produced by 'Tiger Aspect Productions' For Discovery Networks Europe c Discovery Communications Europe 2005 The program also follows three british animators who try to make their 1st animated film short Ben Lock - 'Elroy' Andy Bean - 'If I had a hammer' Dan Lane - 'Two Fellas'
LMAO!!!! i just notice the teapot in 3dsmax, that's why it's the basic object in any 3D animation software :D
