## One of the reasons people have left is this: the hierarchy has presided over, and hidden, and not warned the laity against, child abusers in the clergy; for many years. And if Rome does not do something to mend matters, matters will stay broken; because Rome has monopolised power in the Church; the laity have to put up with Rome's shenanigans. People don't *want* to associate with a Church that protects criminals - so they leave. They aren't anti-Christian, but anti-corruption
@5355vbxjbj76rvn, Well said. I don't think anyone could defend this sort of behavior, but the "cover ups" have been at the diocese level. Rome has admonished and asked for resignations from bishops who were involved. That said, I agree that the response has been something less than vigorous and it's up to the laity to demand change and reform. Thanks for your comment.
