I love the big man and consider him one of the great songwriter/frontmen of rock. This however is not so great, his voice is a shadow and the band are average. I hope that people will watch early footage and listen to the first four albums just to see what a truly amazing artist this guy was.
Saw Marllion at the Filmore in SF in 1984, i believe it was, and will never forget the experience. Fish clawing his way through a large creped hoop was a sight to behold.
I think the lower the tone to fit with Fish's actual pitch voice that's why they dont hear like marillion and marillion's musician are way way better than this young guys playing. Marillion was playing and I think most of them we even born.
Fish used to be the best. But fish swim deep and this particular fish is sinking into very deep water, never to surface again. Lets sink this band off into the dark depth of... nothing. This fish is long overdue, unfortunately.
@leiken26 I have been to his concert of his last album. Fish is destroying his own legacy. Thats up to him but... it makes me sad seeing him on stage in this shape and form with regards to the past. In Marillion he always wore colourful eccentric clothes (what Steve H does now in Marillion)) but now he wears the same black and gray on stage in which he helps the roadies build the stage !
@powermichiel just proves he's a bigger guy without a douche bag ego. he's just fine. in the biz you do what it takes to get the show off. he is not in Marillion. he remains a wonderful performer. i don't care if he wears a t-shirt, a superman costume or a kilt. he is and forever will be the one and only FISH. love ya Derek W. Dick.
am i missing something, all i see see here is a fat pissed up has been, come on fish get it together again, you & the band can still do it, look @ the Tull 40 years on & still rocking
fish is fantastic, always has been, always will be, but, the backing band don't even come close to MARILLION. i believe this was a very special album and should only be performed with MARILLION, nothing against steve hogarth, he is also fantastic, but that album......MASTERPIECE!!
His current band are amazing. I've seen him and Marillion a few times over the years in all guises. I saw him solo a few times upstairs from the Liquid Room in what was the Preservation Hall 20 years ago. I saw him last year in Norwich, and he still has all the power and charm he ever had. His band are incredible - just fantastic. As good as Marillion were honestly. His hair is also way better now. Please go and see him when he plays near you.
You were great with Marillion!!! Then the first part of your solo material the same. What happend? Maybe take some time for yourself and come back good and proper.
I was at his first show in the US on this tour in SF and if memory serves me correctly, this is the song he opened the show with. Brilliant!! Bloody brilliant!!!
Actually, Fish is from Dalkeith. 8 miles form Edinburgh. I went for a bag of chips one day when I was at school, and there was Fish walking along the street. That was in 1984 I think.
