  • Only Hitch could flip off the crowd on National TV and have them love him when he's done. We lost a great one last Dec.

  • I disagree, Iraq was a important place to conquer.

  • Hitchens is kicking ass at 9:30

  • Every time Hitchens speaks, it's like the other three are hearing these stories for the first time. It's as if he's conducting a current affairs class for them.

  • Hitchens was pro war thats why he supported Bush

  • @mzanelli89 Incorrect. Read his work for his positions.

  • Hitchens predicts the underwear bomb attempt at 22:30

  • Hitch was a man with balls! R.I.P.!

  • why was hitchens defending bush so vehemently?

  • @blastsummit

It has nothing to do with bush

do some more searching on his arguments about the iraq war

  • @Aenima8427 he was defending him, are you deaf? and as it turned out, iraq war was contrived by neocons and illegal

  • @blastsummit

    I stand by my comment

take some time watching other videos and read some of the articles about the war from him

  • @Aenima8427 he was defending bush himself when bush was being ridiculed. prove me wrong

  • @blastsummit he is driven by his contempt for the radical extremists in the middle east

  • @Aenima8427 Hitchens hated Bush as an individual, but he revered Bush's position as President of the United States (the leader of the free world). Hitchens differed with the way it happened, but he 100% supported the removal of Saddam Hussein and the liberation of Iraq. He was a fighter against repression and the US is the antithesis to that. Thank goodness many people outside the US still believe this, even as Americans second-guess the importance of our country.....my 2 cents

  • @blastsummit my theory is he dislikes the morons who pretend they're smarter than bush. he also thinks bush may be dyslexic, as in, not entirely idiotic as people make him out to be.

  • I watch Real Time every Friday, and i must say, it does annoy me to a certain extent the mindless clapping that goes on after every liberal, pro-democrat, anti-conservative comment is made. Can be annoying.

  • @UtopiaMinor666 i feel the same, even tho i my self is pro-democrat.

  • Weather you agree or disagree with Hitch on the Iraq War, he will always have answer for everything you throw at him, he wont stutter or hesitate he will have an answer.

  • Carlin and Hitchens; My two sources of inspiration.

  • @NoGodsNoOverlords Same for me. Dawkins occasionally makes the list as well.

  • @NoGodsNoOverlords

    so true!

we lost two great people when we lost george carlin and christopher hitchens.

  • Hitchens was the only present time intellectual that I ever encountered in our day and age. He will be sorely missed.

  • Hopefully, one day we can get rid of all diseases. I say death to cancer!

  • Oh man, Hitchens shits on the audience here.

  • i love you hitch. gone to soon

  • Halcyon,

Did you even look into the issue before making up your mind? Where was one of Al Qaida's top men, maybe even the number two man, to be found just prior to the invasion? In Iraq, under the auspices of Saddam. You rant about how foolish people are for considering his words in a way that shows you haven't examined the facts. You'd be more comfortable on a Moore video, I think.

  • Norman416, its one and the same. Supporting the war, but removing the elements that dont suit us isnt acceptable. The principle is wrong because A) there were alternatives B) War is War. The Bushs' factual record is:Desert storm as a mess. the sanctions/embargo that followed killed children in Iraq. The WMDs were dreamt up. The insuing war extirpated a nation and bankrupted the mighty USA. Net total = 0! Sorry, what was the principle here?!

  • Hitchens was no infallable. The guy was a radical, with his own agenda, like some of his adversaries! He was brilliant! but supported war? Perhaps slightly misguided. These people who hang on to his every word drive me nuts and show a sophomoric mindset.Mahr put it best, there was no such element as AlQaida (or equivalent) in iraq, at any time when saddam was around. the madman kept a clean house in that sense. For Chris to Hitch on to that point is outragous and arrogant.God Bless him

  • @Halcyon1234567891 He never supported war, he supported what he perceived to be the fight against tyranny in all forms and removing despots who threatened the safety and peace of others

  • Whether you agree with Hitchens or not, you have to love his smug smile. Rest in peace.

  • Around 19:00, when Maher start doing the prop comedy, notice they keep showing the other two guests laughing their asses off, but they don't show Hitchens once. I assume it's because he's not laughing at all. I just wish that they HAD shown it. Dumb guy laughing, other dumb guy laughing, and then Hitchens, not laughing, with a menacing glare.

  • @DesBlackmore i absolutely love Htichens, and have a world of respect for his intellect and ideas, but in terms of his cancer, he did do it to himself. No one forced him to smoke 10 packs a day.

  • I respect Hitchens support for the war because he wants fanatical Islam destroyed, Bush only wanted oil

  • i cant understand how hitchens is such aan strong supporter of the war and the bush administration....

  • @stesta90 Great man are sometimes inconsistent ... i suppose. He might also think that Islamist terrorism is worse than christian "terrorism".

  • that finger was priceless 12:12 and god i wished for so long that somebody would do that

  • Hitchens brought up a strong point about being on the side of the Iranians who fight against a theocracy, and NO ONE CLAPPED. Hitchens was right on the give those a-holes the finger.

  • @stupidfatuglybastard I don't know where I stand on the war, but I can't see how you can say he is being dishonest.

  • Bill Maher is such a lightweight, pseudo intellectual. His simple minded, emotion-begging, micro-myopic pronouncements are the real joke.

What a dopey contrast to an intellectual giant like Christopher Hitchens!

  • The whole israel asskissing is disgusting. The war crimes Israel commit every day towards Palestine is sickening!

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

    Dude stfu

I am not responsible for what america did or does

you are not very intelligent are you

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

your assumption that the UN is a good organization is a bit ignorant

you sir are the one with the tin foil hat

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

    lol really

for one thing I do believe the United States Has been and still is a Fascist government

Again please use some common sense

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

it is clear you dont know Hitchens full opinion on this is

do some more research before acting like you know what you are talking about

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

dude you are putting faith in an organization run by the worlds tyrants

That is what the UN is now

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

    Ever heard of sanctions

Iraq had multiple times shown it was dangerous in an international sense

it was the UN who should of taken Saddam out because of his crimes

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

Clearly your mind has been brainwashed

  • @stupidfatuglybastard check out this episode of south park

it really can clear things up

    s07e01-im-a-little-bit-country

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

that is what the the UN is supposed to do correct?

well I would say that they dont do there job

that is why we had to defy the UN to go to Iraq

I would propose that both parts wanted it

they just used the current administration to put blame on

it is called politics so please use common sense

  • both partys wanted the war

at least the people who were in power

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

dude seriously you have a lot of lies and propaganda in your head

there is no such thing as moral relativism

and the politics is also not helping things

please let all that go and start using common sense

  • @stupidfatuglybastard ever heard of the UN?

  • @Aenima8427

I suggest really looking into what he proposed

and stop going off of assumptions about his views

  • @stupidfatuglybastard - I disagree as well, yet he seems to genuinely believe AlQuaeda had (some level of) support from Iraq. Belief based on what? I don´t know, but he does not seem dishonest, rather he seems fool in believing that.

  • @stupidfatuglybastard

regardless of the politics at home the fact that we got a cruel dictator off the backs of innocent people is something to be proud of

everything done after liberation is what is questionable

  • Bill is sooooooo outclassed by Hitchens....

  • can we please cure cancer soon...please

  • RIP Christopher Hitchens.

  • Honesty, however you think about conflict US/Iraq/Afghanistan, it's impossible to debate Hitchens on it. The man makes ("made, damnit", right) a point of studying the middle east peoples, cultures, religious cults and governments. He's been down there several times and has had his eye on the area between the gulf war and this one, where (as there was no conflict there then of any international drama) everyone else could care less. It may not be PC, but Hitch was always HARD CORE on his sources.

  • 7:22 "holy shit this guy is good"

  • The reason why Hitchens is (was. damn it.) so awesome is because he doesn't give a fuck about pleasing the crowd.

He's not even concerned about offending the crowd, like other attention seekers.

    He's just doing his thing.

  • @darkerforest

Damn accurate if I dont say so myself

  • @darkerforest One of the MANY reasons Mr. Hitchens was so awesome.

  • @darkerforest

I would argue that his abrasive personality was his greatest handicap - people are more easily won over if you don't put them on the defensive before you deliver your arguments.

  • @darkerforest

    so true.

an another thing i liked about hitchens was that he didnt flip-flop on his views.

  • Money shot at 12:05

  • Christopher is GREAT!

  • You will be remembered, Hitch.

  • can't believe he's gone, so sad.

  • Hitchens totally called it with the Zipper Bomber comment.

  • Hitchens at 5:25

Every time he's on the show he just baits the idiot audience.

  • Hitchens schools everyone in a debate! Get well soon Mr. Hitchens.

  • What does an audience member say at 4:27?

  • Don't you think Hitchens was playing devil's advocate, either just for his own amusement or because disagreeing with most everything Maher said was his agreed role on the panel? After all, he made the discussion WAY more interesting than it would have been without him. Although Cleland and Nasser (sp?) were excellent Hitchens spiced it up. Besides, he's a self-described "contrarian". How else would such a man conduct himself? He's brilliant.

  • However, American secularism is highly passive-agressive. On one hand it says that religion is a matter of personal freedom, yet on the other hand, the most draconian laws get pushed to congress which only exist because the Christian fundamentalist drive to dominion. So, I fully respect what the Hitchenator said in counter to Bill, but no matter how a Republican may attest to make laws irrespective of religion, religion is so often at the heart of everything they do.

  • @UberNoodleX You are so so right & so we see this horrible hypocrisy - Christian fundamentalists want no abortion yet they don't want to spend money on the social services the resulting babies require due to the overwhelmingly impoverished parent(s). They want to protect the fetus but once that fetus leaves the mother's body, it's on it's own. They cry "personal freedom" when their agenda, esp guns, is repulsed yet they want to control the most personal aspects of our lives.

  • @chrstnlmllr51 Indeed! yet if it's so transparent, why do they get so many votes? Who would vote to have their freedoms reduced?

  • @UberNoodleX They get so many votes because the Republican machine, with such as Karl Rove, are brilliant at whipping up their base with their drops of poison i.e. "death panels" & they're the ones who vote. Despite the relatively small audience who consume Fox "News", their ignorance & anger propels them disproportionately. They don't care if their freedoms are reduced so long as they can control those they hate & resent - intellectuals including scientists, immigrants, uppity ethnics, women

  • i still dont understand why zarqaqi being in iraq means saddam has ties to al qaeda and that we should invade the country.

  • so basically the crowd just claps American accents.... wow.

  • @merrickwinter Well, Hitchens is speaking a foreign language.

  • The world would be in much better shape if Saddam Hussein was still neutralizing Iran and purging religious nuts from his bailiwick. He knew he could stay in "power" as long as he did nothing to really piss us off. Getting rid of him was about the dumbest of the many dumb things done by el Jumbo Dumbo, George Dubya Bush.

  • Wow... Bill was speechless. That's something I thought I would never see.

  • Hitchens for president

  • @Fanboyzz You have to be born in the USA to be president sorry.

  • @ExodusPessoa Our Prime Minister wasn't born in Australia, but she grew up and spent most of her life in my country. Perhaps the birther movement of the USA is holding back true multiculturalism.

  • I dont like seeing Hitchens and Maher at each others throats....makes me feel weird to see two people I respect getting so heated with each other

  • @zzyzx0788

I dont have the same respect for bill maher

    He is such a douche

    Like O'Reilly but worse

  • @zzyzx0788 actually should be glad that people with respect and such go with passion towards their point, the question is do they accept if the other is correct. Disagreement and strong debate/argument should be wished for, just do it in civilized manner.

  • The way Hitchens gives the audience the finger is fucking priceless!

  • @RandomVortex - How many times I have wanted to do that...

  • @RandomVortex Ya, very un-intellectual lol.

  • Saddam had no control of the Kurdish area of Iraq Hitch.

  • Bill maher sounded like a republican to em in this episode....

    *sticks fingers in ears*

LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALAI CAN'T HEAR YOUR WELL SPOKEN ARGUMENTS BACKED UP BY HARD FACTSLALALALALALAL

  • That congress man is annoying. He has so many canned lines.

  • Why on earth was Hitchens defending a moron like Bush?

  • @Saebeck32 Because Hitchens is legit, as in, not a team player, he "defends" and or "attacks" people or policies because of what he knows to be true or because of a personal philosophy, not because he sees himself as part of team A against team B.

  • Hitchens is way above their levels, intelligence wise. It's laughable

  • WHO THE FUCK HISSES THE HITCH?!?!?!

  • Bill Maher's audience are sheeple; it's so sad to see unthinking automotons like that. Also, Maher should check his ego. He gets all butt-hurt when someone disagrees with him and then he spouts some "folk wisdom" that actually makes the oppositions' point even more clear lol ^_^

  • 4.00 to 4.05 Hitchens leaves the room in silence.

  • Comment removed

  • I like Bill until someone corrects him. You can tell his blood just boils when anyone corrects him. He needs to check his own ego sometimes, be willing to admit he's wrong, and most importantly keep his audience in check.

  • @flystix I agree. Though I have heard him keep his crowd in check

  • @flystix What drives me nuts is that Bill allows people to correct him EVEN WHEN HE'S RIGHT. However, he's too stoned/stunned to respond

  • @flystix sometimes you like a person because his views reflect yours. but you need to admit that mahr is an idiot first and foremost, so whether he's right or wrong doesn't matter. hitchens is more sentient and lucid than mahr could ever dream to be. but most importantly, effortlessly entertaining.

  • @flystix Especially when he's attempting to argue with the late great Christopher Hitchens... Maher was SO out of his league.

  • i love how bill changes the subject after being hitchslapped

  • Its funny watching them talk about a "zipper bomb" guy and ending up with people having to check everything, then we get the underwear bomber and now people have to check everything...Hitchens can see the future!

  • @Aenima8427

You don't actually think Obama is progressive or socially liberal do you? I am one, and most of his actions seem to say otherwise.

  • When Hitchen's speaks ... STFU and Iisten!!

  • We need Hitchens for at least another 50 years.

  • bullfeathers lol

  • Also the mujahideen who was headed by osama bin laden was the main force fighting the Soviets and the CIA heavily funded them but they didnt want it to get traced. So they funnelled the money to the ISI who then gave it to the mujahideen. It was hundreds of millions of dollars used to buy weapons and also sorts of things that they are using on our troops now ! And yes the mujahideen later turned into al qaeda....

  • Ughhhhh I love Hitchens when it comes to religion but hes dumb as a fucking stump when it comes to politics. I'm a huge history buff and he is very ignorant when it comes to the history of the middle east. We have been fucking around with their politics for the last 60 years. We were the ones who put saddam hussien in power because he was Anti-communism and this was in the mid 80's when the russians were trying to take over afghanistan.

  • @JG129 Thank you for introducing yourself as a huge history buff. Also congratulations mentioning "we" (you mean the CIA right?) brought Saddam to power. Your fragmented wikipedian knowledge would surely stand up in a debate with Hitchens, one of the greatest intellectuals of our time.

  • The audience makes me want to hit my head with a hammer. Over. And. Over.

  • northern iraq wasnt under hussein control...

  • Bush was the first president to have a Master's degree. Anybody who has seen the video with him as governor and him as president next to each other knows he was faking it (=being stupid). People think it's adorable and want to have a beer with him. If Obama was as arrogant as he was smart, nobody (the midwest that is) would have voted for him either.

  • @ReX342 Rich infuential family members don't earn degrees Daddy buys it for them.

  • @CelestialWoodway First president with rich influential family members. Really? Anyway, I had this in mind: watch?v=JvknGT8W5jA

Thinking he's stupid instead of evil is just placing blame elsewhere (Dick Cheney, conspiracy theories instead of something we can all agree on -not that I'm against institutional analysis-, ...). He looks like somebody you'll have a beer with because that's the image he cultivated.

  • @ReX342 Yeah, that's right.

  • bill maher vs christopher hitchens

  • Hmmmmm....this is wishful thinking but I wish that we could stop making weapons of mass destruction once and for all. Like the saying goes "lets sharpen our minds & not our swords." More hate just creates more hate. More weapons create more weapons. I just want all wars to stop. I'm so fed up with the killings & the anger & etc.

  • For once, I don't agree with Hitchens when he said that nobody is smarter than the president.

  • @susiejet he was talking of the people in the room, did u not see him argue with them? open your mind a littlle

  • @susiejet Yeah I agree he is usually a brilliant man but he's stupid when it comes to politics. The Iraq war has now killed more than 1 million Iraqi civilians so I'd definitly compare Bush to hitler...

  • @ScottBrown666

...maybe with the nation's first _female_ president? (That seens to be an avenue nobody's thought of yet!) I mean, this fight's FAR too fucking important to have anyone short of Nancy Pelosi (arguably the most effective Progressive politician in recent memory) in that office! Seriously, she would be the like second coming of FDR (to Obama's Herbert Hoover), ONLY *BETTER*!

  • @ScottBrown666

Well, tho he may deny it _now_, he fuckin' ran as that, and frankly, I'm fuckin' pissed that the only "Hope" and "Change" he was REALLY promising was his change of Party and the "hope" that he'd actually fight!

Quite frankly, the ONLY way Obama can save himself in my eyes is if he runs fiercely on "Taxing the Rich" like Keith Olbermann said he was goin' to Friday night. ANYTHING short of that, and we should primary the bastard out!

  • @Aenima8427 Are you implying that Obama is a progressive social liberal? ha, he had me fooled.

  • I think Doug Stanhope said it best; "To be as drunk and brilliant as Christopher H. would make me jizz all over myself in self satisfaction." Its so beautiful watching him express his obviously insightful and educated views, while still being a British elitist cunt where applicable.

  • @Deltidsgorilla did he say that at one of his shows or in an interview, is it on youtube? doug stanhope is the man

  • @trollingforpoo Its in a interview from Helsinki, he is quite drunk :P Its on youtube : watch?v=_tr1kslpy-Y

  • Oh yeah, pause at 0:00 for Dawkins!

  • @Evan42881-True, but the way Hitch lambasts them for applauding on cue is great.

  • goddamn idiots - you should fight what causes terrorism.....

  • This was great, opposing views, audience interaction, stimulating discussion and humour to boot! What more could you ask for? Brilliant.

  • @Firemanyoz The audience gets really annoying.

  • @Aenima8427 republicans still won the election--obama and liberal have hardly anything in common, unfortunately

  • the rest?

  • The audience doesn't understand anything that's being discussed, they just hear "Bush" and "dumb" in the same sentence and they clap like trained monkeys.

  • @shadowsheik8611 "they clap like trained monkeys."

Yeah, it's shamelessly stealing plays #1, 2, 4, 5, and 7 from the conservative handbook, but even progressives like to cheer for the side once in a while.

  • Why I love Hitchens, in a nutshell: 5:24

  • @cotchery Wow, I can't believe I missed that. I'm going to miss that man when he's gone. A lot.

  • When was this? 2008? Maher challenging Hitchens on facts is so ridiculous. Hitch goes to all the places he talks & writes about BEFORE he talks about them. Don't challenge Hitchens. Dying of cancer, w/half his brain tied around his back he'll win every debate. Maher is not always to be taken seriously. He is a comedian after all. He is also a firm Zionist. No one should allow us to be handcuffed by any middle eastern country. Hitchens is so serious. Bush is not dumb, he is anti-intellectual.

  • Hitchens is smarter than everyone in that room combined. Maher's crowd are bunch of retarded college kids who voted the current Manchurian, affirmative-action president into office

  • @DeepHa Affirmative Action? Editor & 1st black President of Harvard Law Review. That was determined by affirmative action? 7 Supreme court Justices were presidents of that Law Review. Constitutional law professor at U. of Chicago? That was due to affirmative action? How did Bush get in & out of Yale and Harvard? His father. How did Cheney get into Yale? His wife worked for a powerful alumnus. How did Cheney do? He flunked out twice. Obama was brainwashed into being a communist assassin? Really?

  • @DeepHauz13 yeah they are basically just clapping seals

  • @dontleademsomuch Umm, there's an applause sign. Applauding and laughing are done on cue. People are told to be there hours before the show starts so they can get a tutorial on audience etiquette.

  • @DeepHauz13 lol.

  • What a prissy queen he is!

  • @SOLE2SOUL Which one - Hitchens or Maher?
