Lol I'm studying A Street Car Named Desire this year.
And the show that I went to see that was AMAZING!!!! Was the one I went to on Friday night called Six Characters in Search of an Author. My god, the most powerful show I've seen so far!
I saw 'To Kill A Mockingbird' with soap stars playing the roles. it was amazing and i was crying loads by the end. i highly recommend you watch the film or read the book :)
Aww this reminded me of when we went to go see "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" at the Shakespeare festival in Oregon. I had the same reaction with that play *mind was blown* its got to be a Tennessee Williams thing :)
And you would have lost a big fan, odd thing is I had a better time at a show the day after the play it was fun and the musicians are cooler to hang out with than actors. Because they don't make big fucking deals over hugs plus they need there fans whereas actors get paid no matter what
Honestly fuck boundaries, if someone drove 5 hours to see me and bought me flowers I would be happy and appreciative to know that my work is impacting people that way not creeped out.
...I think I'd be creeped out, for sure!.... gushing overfamiliarity and forced physical intimacy from a complete stranger, I think she handled you very well considering...I would've told you to fuck off!
Hey Jake! Your videos don't need to get better, mate, they are fantastic the way they are filled with your genuine enthusiasm, gorgeous smile and infectious love of theatre. I'm an actor from San Diego and only recently found out about Ms. Blanchett & Co.'s production, now in NY I believe. How great that you got to see it! I'm sure a night you will never forget. Please keep posting and take care.
the other people in the cast were being distant towards the people who were waiting outside, I know when joel came out and i said hey to him he just looked at me and walked off, I don't know for some reason it seems like actors are not as nice to there fans as musicians are, i had a good experience and all but still it's also very ironic to me (and no one has yet to answer this) that streetcar is a play which describes lower class life to a upper class audience
and the artistic community which preaches the message of theater relating to and caring about poor people always does shows which attract high class people put it this way don't expect the working class to pay $90 to see a play
orchestra seats were high, but the gallery seats (for the working class) were at a very affordable $35-$40 range, so I don't what you're talking about???
hmm, well i think it really depends on what kind of actor you meet. like iv meet actors who are really nice and happy to talk too after a show but i guess fame does change people? xxx
I got to meet her after waiting twice, (once after the 1:30 show and again after the 7:30 show) and she was nice ( I did give her flowers after all) but for some reason it felt awkward (then again i think she had something in her hands hopefully) because i gave her a hug and she just stood there without saying anything, idk that felt strange to me i know she is married and all but still i drove 5 hours just to see her and i felt like i got brushed off for some reason also
Look if some total stranger started hugging me I'd be a bit wary too...these are people after all, not animals in some petting zoo, she probably gets people throwing themselves at her all the time, it would wear a bit thin after a while, you may feel you know her from everything you've seen and read about her but remember she doesn't know you from a bar of soap so just respect her boundaries a bit
I just saw Cate Blanchett in A Streetcar Named Desire! She was incredible. Better than Vivien Leigh even. Got to talk to her and take a picture with her afterwards. Best night ever!
I actually waited outside the stagedoor for half an hour. Most people didn't know that there was a stagedoor, so only a handful of other people were waiting, making it really easy to talk to her.
I heard from a worker about the stagedoor, i saw her at the in conversation thing they did last week, i guess they call it the stage entrance door for a reason because she came in through the door but she left through the elevator, still i drove from raleigh NC to see her but now that i know about the door i may be able to meet her, so you got there 30 minutes before the show started or how long were you out there before she came by? just wondering so i can figure out a good time to wait, thanks
Nice thanks man! did you wait out at night? or day? because the show would probably end at 12 am right? idk i just think that sounds a little risky for them to go out that way at night, during the day might be different though
I don't know if this reply is in time, but it was at night. The show began at 7:30, ran until 10:30, and then I waited until about 11:15ish for her. It's not that risky, considering that her hotel is just a few steps away, she has several bodyguards, and the entire grounds are on high surveillance.
bodyguards? No bodyguards, just her husband & children. I met her twice at the stagedoor and she was so gracious and kind. She was tired, after all, she just gave a mind-boggling truly tortured performance as Blanche so I didn't blame her for showing signs of being fatigued. Please respect that.
well i saw her in DC, at the Kennedy Center. I'm sure her New York maintenance is much different.
I think it also depends on the night. The entire cast was very warm to me, and Cate herself was very graceful as she handled a way-too-eager fan badgering her with questions. I was personally delighted with her class, like any golden actor :)
Oh, I see. I thought you were talking about New York cuz she had absolutely no entourage around her, it was nice! You know who I hate more than eager fans? The idiot autograph seekers shoving stuff in her face without having even seen the performance or respecting her work! They're just out to make a buck..and they don't even get that much for those autographs, it's silly! I don't get it.
I've seen Les Miserable, A Christmas Carol, The Secret Garden, The Scarlet Letter, The Laramie Project, and Hamlet. My high school put on some pretty good plays. Next month we're doing Me and My Girl. I would really like to see it, but I'm doing wardrobe, so I can't.
I'm theatre deprived (even though i live half an hour from NYC), but i am totally hooked onto Death of A Salesman right now. Absolutely stunning play. Pick it up or watch it sometime.
I was born in Ne York and when I was 10 my parents took my sister and me to see the musical "Oliver!" The Artful Dodger was played by Davy Jones. He later became one of the members of the group The Monkees in the 60's. I saved that playbill and always wanted him to autograph it.
In October a year ago he was here doing a commercial for a local bank. He recorded in my studio and I finally got that autograph on the playbill. Pictures and the playbill on my Dailybooth billelder
last big theatre tingy i saw was when i went to london in april this year to see We Will Rock You, you know with bel elton and queen! it was AMAZING i can asure you!
I'm going to see Wicked again soon for my friend's birthday, and hopefully a couple of weeks later we'll be seeing either Mamma Mia or Avenue Q for MY birthday, so all's YAY :D
Hahaha...I'm a theatre nerd too. First I just loved theatre and then I met Cate and now I like it even more :)

What a shitty video. A few minutes of the play filmed from the audience would be much more appreciated.

I saw the show that same day except the matinee!
I went with school and we flew up and back from Melbourne in a day to see it - totally tatally worth it.
Cate is phenomenal but so was the entire cast!
We were meant to have Q&A after with cast but couldn't because of the eveing performance grrr. Brilliant day none the less.
Highlights, Cate: "I don't want realism, I want magic" AND "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers." Naturally.
