Are you using some type of dynamic range booster with this camera? seems to get a lot more light dynamic than the dvx100 camera. I was thinking about buying this camera, and I think you just made my mind so to speak! Really great footage
I know some guys who have tried using the HVX for skating. They ran into two problems: It's a little bit heavy for long single-shot runs, and it's easy to blow through your P2 cards if you're shooting a lot of footage. If you can afford a pile of P2 cards, it's great. If not, and HDV camera like the Sony Z1U or even Z7U is probably a better choice, even though HDV isn't the greatest format.
For short films, I prefer the HVX hands down though.
thats awesome...there's no denying it, the HVX200 with the redrock is the way to go..not to mention your shot theory itself is stellar....thanks for sharing. i'll be sure to check out the real stuff.
Redrock and Letus both released new models. The Letus just released the "spinning glass" adapter, whilest Redrock always had the spinning glass. Letus is also twice the price ($4k) than Redrock ($2k). I guess if you can afford the extra $2k, then go for Letus. Otherwise, Redrock is the best bang for your buck.
that looks great, im just learning how to use a redrock but using a lit set, im finding it very difficult because im losing a lot of stop, any suggestions
To pinzon44 -- You should only be losing a half-stop at most. Contact Redrock to see what they have to say about that. I'm looking to purchase a DOF adapter. I'm looking at either the Letus or Redrock, but considering my budget I'm most likely going with the Redrock.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! if you would like to view some footage that was shot with the HVX200, Letus Extreme, and Nikon lenses, type "Wash Panasonic" in You Tube's search window. You can compare its look with the Redrock or the Brevis adaptors.
If you are interested in camera settings please see my videos. This is an old account and this is the new account I now use. There are 4 videos on the HVX set-up.
DZENTRUDR, this obviously isn't a film. It's test footage thrown together. It's to showcase his rig's capabilities. Why else would it be named after the components that make up his camera. A Panasonic Camcorder and a Redrock film lens adapter. Good demonstration, OneDay. Best showcase I've scene thus far for any redrock, it helped me to better judge the Redrock.
This was well put together and looks good, but one thing that differs this from professional work is steadiness. Besides that, however, great job, just use a tripod or dolly or steadycam (if you can afford it) more often.
I kinda liked the unsteady look of handheld shots. It´s not shaky, just a very gentle wobble which adds personality... after all this was not an institutional video of some sort of industry. Just my 2 cents. Great work.
I don't agree with you Warrior. The cheap ass cams SHAKE and that is video -like. HAve you watched the CSI/E.R./and others on tv? THey hardly use a tripod anymore. THey want a more action-like not too steady shots. Of course, a steadicam is the best option cause it moves too and is not shaky. But in this video, the shakyness is just perfect,.
this looks great, how do you find the sharpness compared to having the adaptor off? I have the SGpro and had to stop using it as despite months of tests all the footage was just too soft and I know exactly how to line it up etc just not good enough.on a Sony Z1
i was looking to buy a camera and when i research the hvx200 on youtube.......tis short made me nutt in my pants....as a director im so excited.....now i just gotta stack my chips
that looks like a good set up. What did you use to mount the marshall on the camera? I was thinking about getting the M2, but recently i've also been thinking about the Letus35 Extreme, still debating...
onedayimightwin, so if i dont know what this can do i shouldnt buy it is what your telling me, well then how do i learn how to use it, all i am saying is if i had your setup in my hand it would be rad, thank you for replying though,
So how did you learn how to use it. i mean what is so hard about it, you screw it to your camera, and get the focus right it doesnt take a genius i would imagine, just tell me how this shit works bro so i can make my movie man.
can anyone tell me, is the hvx200 an HD camera, and what are cannon primes, does that mean he used 3 different lenses at once. Basically can someone tell me everything this dude used to make this, i dont know shit about technology and lenses but if i had that camera and setup he has i would be a very happy man.
He used a redrock m2 35mm adapter. Look it up on the internet. Use '35mm adapter', 'redrock', 'brevis', 'letus35', 'sgpro', 'dof adapter' as keywords. Read the shit and you will see the light.
Can we also use this adapter with Panasonic 24p MiniDV? The one they sell on the internet worth $2,500.00. Please let me know. I appreciate your help guys.
Far out - I love this clip. A 35mm adapter must rock! Awesome choice of soundtrack - I recently created a 'music video' sort of clip with Dayvan Cowboy too on the Canon XH-A1.

I love this video. The quality is amazing and the composition is awesome. How did you get the 2.35:1 aspect ratio? I have a redrock with the pl mount and I've been using nikon lenses but I can't get that ratio.

Hi, just wondering which shots were 50mm? Also i noticed that you dont have an f stop on your 200...what is the fastest you can get fo these? Thanks in adavance.
Yeah I heard to get fast long lenses would be a pain and expensive. I have used a 200 before in day light and never looked that nice but it was a zoom lense. Are prime lenses much better? Thanks
expensive but vital in good optics. Prime lenses are the only way to shoot decent images. A zoom should only be used if a physical zoom action is called for. As yet I have never used a zoom.
They are two friends however had never met until the shoot. This gave them something to talk about.
well I am hopefully recieving my first prime lense (50mm) soon which I won the bid for on ebay as have only had access to zoom lense so cant wait to see the difference. I shall definitely look in to getting the longer lenses to. Well I hope they are both friends still hehe, they looked like they got on well. Where abouts are you based...I am in East London.
p.p.s loved the shot of the building...and the man and woman (I take it they are your friends) are very photogenic and have a good screen presense together.
this is amazing!

If I use a computer that is HD capable, can I output my video res at 1920x1080 to play on a regular dvd, to be displayed on non-HD televisions?
The movie Wolf Creek made a comparison to shooting the movie highdef, as rather than standard dv and showed the difference.
Can I expect some difference too?

Hi, just wondering which shots were 50mm? Also i noticed that you dont have an f stop on your 200...what is the fastest you can get fo these? Thanks in adavance.

the 200 is/was a F2.8. the fastest canon 200m is an L rated 200mm 1.8. these are very rare.
the over the shoulder talking shots are some of the 50mm, 50mm is the closest to eye, so shots on 50mm are usually easy to tell.
