The Dillards and Arlo Guthrie. The Dillards are worth looking up on iTunes or your favorite music downloader. They were on the Andy Griffith show in the early 60's as the Darlings. Later they were one of the first bands to combine rock drums and electric bass with Bluegrass. A big influence on later Country Rock bands of the 60's and 70's.
I gave it five stars before the video even started playing because....because it's Arlo and the Dillards of course fer Pete's sake. Hey who is that Pete anyway?
Hey gang, come check out The Dillards official website and SAVE on our brand new "Homeland Security" t-shirt. In fact, all shirts are now just $15 through Christmas. Just Google "The Dillards official store"
This is sweet-sounding music. Great to hear that ole Arlo's latter-day voice has hardly changed from that wonderful twang he had in the 60's. And the Dillards together with him -what can you say ... except that genuine talent never dies ; never really goes away !! A wonderfully enjoyable clip - thanks, jguth3, ....
Hey, someone was cutting down the Dixie Chicks. They had the guts to stand up for truth and free speech which was something Woody (and Arlo) worked hard on a long time ago. There's not many people who risk losing money for truth any more. Let's give them recognition for their sacrifice.
I didn't hear much banjo but the video was good...I love Arlo and Doug Dillard...I doubt Doug was rooling in the Mexican place...thanx to Jackie for sharing this with us all....she's a wonderful lady!
Many fine folk performers fought and nearly lost all in attempting to gain fundamental rights --or to preserve them, such as the right to free speech. Seeger said it all when he locked horns with the networks on that point. Speaking for myself, bimbo IS a sexist term- I have NEVER heard the word associated with MEN "offending" anyone; unless James Taylor and Jackson Browne qualify as bimbos. Please leave the Guthries thread to them.
As I've said, I was raised on Pete's and Woody's music- "Sing Out!" magazine, and the Newport Jazz Festival.. I'd love to see Arlo playing with both the great folk/country players, like Willie Nelson, etc, or, like some young folks like Norah Jones or the Dixie Chicks- just a suggestion, since I wonder how the mix of sounds would come out. You never know! -dovetrees PS- these are such a treat!
Why on earth would you even think of throwing the Dixie Chicks in with that mix? That bunch of bimbo's dosen't deserve to share the stage with any of those you mentioned.
How about not mixing your politics with great musicians? To refer to them as bimbos is insulting to all women everywhere. They are excellent performers. I loved the "Thirsty Boots" clip with Arlo, Judy collins + more. The Crossroads show is nice because it has interesting artists playing together.
I didn't mix politics with music, Natalie Maines did and she IS a bimbo to insult a large portion of her audience. How is that insulting to all women everywhere?
I read Bound For Glory about four years ago and just loved it. In the book Woody says "This country won't git no better as long as it's dog eat dog and every man for himself and forget everybody else." That's the signature I use in my outgoing email. If he were around these days, he'd most likely say "What'd I tell you?" BTW this video is so cool, thanks for uploading it.
Woody sang songs about the Gray side of America , I know about this, America has a lot of black sides . but we have come a long weay from the times we couldent help our selves. you should learn more , I can not tell you enough, learn more. Woody and his friends help to make us great. Thank you to his family who may not have though so highly of him at the time. DFD
I once drove 45 mile throigh a blizzard to get to Burlington VT. to see the Dillards. It was worth every bit of it. If I could have seen Arlo , what can I say but cod bless you all and American music its the best. if you dont like it go home. DFD
I met Homer Dillard in Salem, MO back in 1986 when my brother married into the Dillard family. He was blast to be around. We were on the subject of music and he grabbed my arm and excitedly said "you like music too!"
Arlo's voice was made for the Dillards music.

Great video. I was lucky enough to jam backstage with the Dillards when they came to Scotland in the late seventies. Great guys. Thanks for posting.

The dixie chicks have made themselves into a cartoon, something not to be taken seriously anymore.

This is the same "Dillard's" that were the "Darlings" on the old Andy Griffith show. The Dillard's and Arlo sound great together.

I'd have better timing, if I was.
Thought it was a catchy stage nic. Don't think
Earl knows Warpigs.

Am I imagining it, or was Doug Dillard rolling a
huge doobie?

Hi Ozzy,
It worked! Ha ha ha. Thanks for your post!

They said banjo playing leads to this. Worked
for me, anyway.
This music really shines when you have that many instruments, doesn't it?

Are you going to tell me that you are related to Earl?
