@zzukizzz I prefer to focus on one new language at a time, and refresh the others occasionally. I don't mix them up much. The more you learn the better you get at learning languages. Good luck.
This happens to me alot. I'm at an international university in my home country, so I am surrounded by language, mainly japanese, yet I stress when I forget words, and end up speaking english, since everyone knows it!! I shall start working on my confidence too, since I'm always too nervous to talk to my friends!
Patience is for hospitals!! Kidding aside. I agree, I've been frustrated at it sometimes and I doubt it's been helping my process. Too bad you can't do a video on how make the language fun. Because I remember reading a book (which mentions you several times in it). That you have to love the language because at the begnning it might be lust. But it's like a relationship. To help keep it, you have to be passionate and build the love of it to keep it alive or something amongst those lines :P.
I agree totally with you but is there any mechanism to speed up a slow brain ?
and why some people live in a country for years but they don't speak correctly its language even if they daily use it ? what is the average of time to learn a language than? what is the best way to get rid of bad habits like transating from your mother tongue to the new language as I am doing now ?
You now, Steve, what I particularly like about your videos and your position on language learning is a piece of hidden oriental wisdom. Like "don't pull your crops before it's grown ripe"... same thing for language learning.
That's true. The best is this feeling, satisfaction when you don't understand something and suddenly, after a long time of thinking about the problem, you solve it and all the unclear conversations, sentences, grammar rules etc. become so obvious. I think this is one of the best feelings when you like learning languages. Thank you for all the videos, I appreciate your efforts and advices.
I gave up on 3 languages before i learned to be patient. Now that I've made peace with the fact that I wont become fluent over night, I am getting much more pleasure out of language learning, and making more progress than ever. Patience is wonderful.
That is why I always think 'Oh boy' when I hear from a First Year Japanese learner that they are studying Japanese because they read manga. Those people get frustrated that they can't understand what their favourite characters are saying, and they give up after a year or two. As you mentioned, patience + a will to become great at a language (not perfect) are crucial.
You are the best language learner I ever had!!!
