Great live version, love the beat. The song Icehouse hit the FM charts in Canada in 1980 or so, and I was 16 and really liked it, but never bought the album. Heard the first side of that album at a friend's house a year or two later and loved every song..went and got the album the next day.Tthen Primitive Man came out...what an album, and what a song. Their best song ever and best album. I was in college when Primitive Man came out..would listen to this song cranked in the dark over and over
This isn't lip synched, its live. But, geez, he doesn't look that good, what's with the nasty blond dye job?? He used to be such a sexy looking guy...:-(
Got this on the original vinyl - great music, great times. Check out the original Flowers album too (before they became Icehouse) - confusingly the album is called Icehouse.
Note: to all your foreigners, that the structure in the background of the concert platform with the flag on it, is the House of Parilament of the Australian Government.
Man I live in Canada and this song was awesome the first time I heard it. It still sounds good 22 years later. ICON music never dies. I wish I could see this guy one day here in Canada.
mad props to you guys, Great improvements to an already masterfull song. Hey, not to many bands can actually sound good live, but you guys pulled that off as well!!! Incredible!!
it's all Iva in this one,,what a voice,,,drove from Boston to Tampa many years ago when this first came out,,, played around the clock on the whole drive,,,AWESOME TIME,,great memories brought back by these guys,,
This song absolutely makes my day! This and Foster's remind me of the 80's and better days of yore. Best of luck to you all, Iva Davies still has a ton of talent!
Awesome performance from the band. The haunting synth pad sound evocatively captures the feel of the land as it did years ago but with this upated delivery from the musicans the song has a fresh feel and it has been moved forward sonically. A snap shot of what this nation is maybe? Forget the political comments just enjoy the music.
@kasavubu Check out the finale of Battle of the Choirs, a wonderful rendition of this song and Iva's voice is so pure and sweet it made my heart ache. : )
@kasavubu ICEHOUSE, will headline Saturday night of the 2011 Deniliquin Ute Muster and Play on the Plains Festival.
ICEHOUSE will complete an outstanding line-up of iconic and contemporary Australian music acts on the Festival stage on Saturday October 1. US Rock Queen Suzi Quatro will headline the concert on Friday, September 30.
It will be the first time since 2009 ICEHOUSE has performed a live concert.
Icehouse... Awesome band, great sound. When they made their way across the ocean to KROQ in the 80's, I was hooked. It's too bad that it's damn near impossible to find their albums.
Makes me want to pack up move from sunny Florida to Australia, Iva is wonderful, I've been crushing on him from the time I was in my teens and he is still as beautiful and talented as he ever was. He's like all classically beautiful things, he simply gets better with each year that passes. I also admire his love and dedication to his family, God Bless you Iva. XXXOOO
there is something special about being an australian, it is intrinsic in all aussies, our earht, our soil, is part of us, we have never had a civil war, we have a peace that isnt found practically anywhere else in the world. we allow others from all lands and come and participate in our society if they choose to. i am aussie in japan, and every day away from australia, you learn more who you are, and what it means to be aussie.
The country has been criticised by the United Nations for direct discrimination against Aboriginal people leading to healthcare that is worse than in some Third World countries.
There is a lot for Australia to be rightly proud of. But it should not be painted as some kind of paradise while Aboriginal human rights are routinely violated.
@PiggsyUK OK, so, how many more billions frmo tax payers will it cost? as you obviously know. you know so much about australia, where aborignals live in city complexes close to all facilities.
Oh I see, it's all about the cost. So you're happy for a section of your population to live in 3rd World conditions as long as your taxes don't go up.
Your touchy response really goes to show how little some Australians know about the position of Aboriginal people.
I repeat, Australia has many good things about it. But it is only a paradise to those who keep themselves ignorant to the economic and social reality of many of their countrymen.
Final comment. Did you know that 71% of Aboriginal people die before the age of 65 and that 45% of Aboriginal men die before they are 45. The difference in indigenous/non-indigenous life expectancy is 20 years - far greater than in the US, Canada and New Zealand. My Australian friends regard that as a source of national shame. You, apparently, are one of those who think that as long as the sun is shining and taxes are low it doesn't matter. No matter, good luck to you.
@PiggsyUK fuck you communist, you think the state should do everything for you. go fuck off to cnorth korea and enjoy your paradise. the services are there, the choice is for the individual to make, they can improve their lives if they wish. also, my mother has skin cancer, she is half native aussie, she got put on an `next possible time` list, which only is available to aboriginal and torres strait islanders ! isnt that racism? fuck you commie! as i say, go live in north korea!
Oh dear. Economics and politics aren't your strongpoint are they dear? Textbook example of how to make a fool of yourself on the internet. Thank goodness you're not representative of most Australians.
@PiggsyUK i guess if i expected everything for free from the government i would have your opinion too. go visit them, go see how everything ends up destroyed they get for free. recently the government gave them all free computers, already 60% are broken ! 10% are locked up at school at the end of the week ! i guess you would say `well 30% are fine, so, more free stuff to them!`. fuck you, i pray for the devil to take particular interest in your eternal torture..
Thank God for that! Great for the 3 year period in the early 80's that that gated snare drenched in verb ruled the commerical waves but nice to see a crisp snappy snare within a modern sounding mix. That gated stuff went out with the mullet :)
And so it should. When are Icehouse going to come back to the UK and tour?
They need to reclaim the land. All the UK vmusic press, which are, by the way, a bunch of wankers, dismissed Icehouse as bowie rip off rubbish. Yeah. Right, Iva Davis is one of the greatest songwriters of our time.
would love to see them reform again for a tour, remember seeing them as : Flowers @ the bondi lifesavers before cold chisel, both great aussie bands from the era
A part ici bien entendu !!
@ Hubbard1963 sounds like you've been eating sour grapes. Do we get too much fine weather and sunshine for you! Why tell us to grow up because we are proud of our country, and where we come from? How bout you just piss off and whinge at some other country who gives a shit what you poms have to say. Twat!
I was a massive fan of UK electronic music, Visage, Cabaret Voltaire, Human League, OMD, the list goes on and on.
I only ever thought Oz and Kiwi music was a sort of watered down US rock, but when I first heard Icehouse, Split Enz and Severed Heads, it was totally turned on its head.
There's a musical movement here as important as German Music was in the 70's (don't say Krautrock, that sucks).
As the "New Romantic" thing happened here, the Sorthern Oceans had their own renaissance.
jesus! Iva (look) i remember is look on the album (man of colours 1987) .. what a transformation!! : o .. but nice voice! .. i think he live now in amsterdam? ... my favorite aussie(icehouse) band in the 80 ... very good music!
This song transports you to that prisoner island hidden in the summer for a million years, burning you black against the ground over 40000 years, telling you the story of a journey that ended long ago, a great southern land... great job Iva, always loved your work!
One more time, The Kids of today just don't understand what ART truely was. I suppose a lot of our parents said the same thing though hope you guys are doin OK................................
Australian Anthem... a great song that captures the sprit of the people and the place.... the northern half of this plant need to continue to hear from the GREAT bands from down south! It's been far too long since we've had our world changed by yet another great aussie band... MORE~!
Holy Shit !! Where's the '85 mullet I've been making fun of on YT?! This is a very serious moment for me, I just realized that it's been 25 yrs since this song came out and obviously the band and the hairstyle has moved on but somehow I have not - ? maybe I will now. I guess it takes "that" moment. I am now going to my closet to clean out the rest of my 80's clothes. thank you for allowing me to vent, and I love Icehouse ! still, holy crap !
this has got to be the most GORGEOUS keyboard line in any rock song every written. its just so smooth and the perfect note choice, perfect lines, perfect colours. why doesnt anyone follow the example set by icehouse and really do quality music with heawrt and passion.
I love Icehouse, and think Iva is a genius, but even he can't sing backing vocals at the same time as lead, which may offer a hint as to why it all sounds so clear, crisp and tight, and why not.
questo rullante è una merda esce fuori dal pezzo e disturba ma il pezzo rimane strepitoso grandi ice house

Wow, makes wanna cry cause I am proud to be an Aussie while listening to that song. It must be Icehouse's best signature song!

It would be a fantastic version if Iva sang it properly at the start and also knew when the guitar solo was coming! :o))

Great version. I heard this song when i was a teenager. I didn't know they were australians. Maybe this could be their "national anthem" ( kidding)

THANKS ICEHOUSE

This song transports you to that prisoner island hidden in the summer for a million years, burning you black against the ground over 40000 years, telling you the story of a journey that ended long ago, a great southern land... great job Iva, always loved your work!

Some of these great artists shouldn't be allowed to age.
We should be able to have some supernatural voting system whereby we can vote for certain artists and they remain immortal.
Still the songs live on don't they ?
Just a pity we can't but Icehouse songs on itunes. What's with that ?
cspace1234nz 2 years ago 2
why is everybody worried about aging? its a fact of life. just be happy that you lived that long. many ppl die young.
your body dies but your soul doesn't ... its called the collective conscience - the akashic records.
lavakava 2 years ago
It's one thing to know that, another thing to truly believe it.
Perhaps you might feel differently in another 20 or 30 years.

A rarity to hear a voice live like this and it sounds just like the studio. Great singer.

I agree, it does surprisingly sound better than the original. I particularly like the guitar solos, which is not included in the original.

I love Icehouse, and think Iva is a genius, but even he can't sing backing vocals at the same time as lead, which may offer a hint as to why it all sounds so clear, crisp and tight, and why not.
