  • the backson .........back soon .......

  • I really liked this movie but goddamn it!!! make it longer it's only over a half hour long!! that's pretty damn short for a theatrical film!

  • Screw what anyone else says, I absolutely loved this movie. It re-newed my love and faith for Disney.

  • You know with Princess and the Frog, Tangled, and Winnie the Pooh, my faith in Disney is beginning to be restored

  • Technically, there are three stories. There's the Tail one and the Backson one, but there's also a small story with Piglet that doesn't get enough. And Rabbit was going to get a story, however the film length would have gone beyond what they were able to have.

  • I am gonna watch this but just looking at it. It feels a little force with the "acting" I think they are overdoing here and there and makes it slapstick humor. That is the main problem I have had for most things from Disney the last Decade. I will still watch it becuse I wanna see if there is something I will like in it. But yeah I will say this many times till I am proven wrong but I belive I could give them a hand of geting back the Disney feeling in the animation.

But I guess it´s not easy.

  • Did anyone else notice that they lengthened Christopher Robin's shorts?

I don't know why but I find it oddly funny XD

  • My opinion? I love them all, I don't care what anyone else says, without these movies we'd be stuck with princesses getting raped, girls tearing out their hair, toes, etc. in order to please men, and so much more gruesome stuff. God Bless Disney movies!

  • Is it too much to hope for MAYazaki?

  • @katethegreat91 Auh! Fuck Yeah!

  • i really love this movie me my sisiter and my mom watched it and lauged the entire time

  • Anybody want to acknowledge the fact that gopher isn't in this one?

  • hmmm, i have curiosity for this movie, i may rented some day, but i am not sure, mostly because (its a lame excuse but it can happen to anyone) winnie the pooh seems to be something more for little kids, yet again i might me surprised in the end

  • @JosibiusZ I recommend at least renting it. It's really short, but it's a nice story. And don't stop yourself from seeing something just because it's "for kids." If everyone did that, Disney wouldn't have as many adult fans as it does.

  • man i have not seen pooh science i was 3

  • wait he fogot

    1: all Disney sequels

    2: chicken little

    3:meet the Robertsons

  • @goldenpizzaking it was all the 2-d hand drawn films not to mention the incredibles !

  • @goldenpizzaking For the Disney sequels, I don't think he counts those as part of the MAIN Disney canon. As for Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Dinosaur and Bolt, he did say he was gonna stray away from CGI with the exception of Tangled.

  • I did Watch MAOWTP, I like his eyes are black, but His eyes keeps Bother me, It must be the Future Winnie the Pooh...

  • he forgot to talk about Jungle Book 2, Piglet's big Movie, Return to Neverland, and Pooh's Heffalump movie

  • @supermariofan03

He wasn't going to do Direct-to-Video or the sequels/spinoffs aside from Rescuers Down Under because he really enjoys that one.

  • did you know Chris has different eyes? i mean what?

  • @daveg502

If you watch the original Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, his eyes are just black dots, like Pooh's eyes.

  • @IWillBeHers No, it's because The Rescuers Down Under is part of the main animated canon, as is Fantasia 2000 and Winnie The Pooh.

  • I don't like this movie at all. My mother told me that this film is for babies and ever for toddlers. I don't expect to get the DVD or a Blu-Ray copy, so I have to avoid it at all costs. This movie is bad, and it is a baby flick. I gave up the Disney animated films after watching "Tangled" on DVD since I got it. I gave it to my niece as well as "The Princess and the Frog" Blu-Ray that I used to have that I gave her as a Christmas gift. The other two Disney films are not a good as it used to be.

  • I can see why NC has the problems with this since he's such a fan of the original. But, before seeing this, I hadn't seen that one since my childhood, and this took me right back to that. ^_^ I absolutely love this new version, I think it's purpase was to bring Pooh back into everyone's attention once again, and it completely succeeded at that. :)

  • This movie sounds fun but it doesn't quite feel like winnie the pooh story. Namely in it's animation. Winnie the pooh was the old school children's cartoon that was low energy but spirited and the characters carried the story with there personalities rather than high energy antics (except tigger of course) and the critic is right. It does little a little too clean.

  • Looks like a Pixar month might happen. According Doug at Kami-Con, he stated that a month where he reviews Pixar movies COULD happen.

  • I've missed the regular voice of Eeyore (who happened to be Peter Cullen for awhile after the first eeyore actor died) ; n ;

  • to doug's complaint about lack of stories in this one, let's be honest, there's not a lot left to work with. some of the remainders were already covered in Piglet's Big Movie, so the only ones really left (unless we include the 3rd book) were the stories about Eeyore's tail, the Backson, and the Heffalump trap, and to be fair, the Heffalump trap does sort of make it into this movie, but as a Backson trap.

  • And here's the film that came out the SAME FREAKIN WEEK as HARRY POTTER!!!

Needless to say, I'd fire whoever set the date for this film to come out!

  • Isn't that misreading not thing a repeat of "Winnie the Pooh: The Search for Christopher Robin"?

  • @azbayzia misreading note

  • @azbayzia it was, but really it comes from a chapter from the books where Rabbit and Owl misread a letter and think CR's been taken away by someone or something called Bizzy Backson. but it's blown way more out of proportions in the movies than in the book.

  • Yeah, the characters stick out from the backgrounds more than "Attack of the Clones"

  • Eyore is Optimus Prime :D

  • @Themastercode1235 in the New Adventures show and other recent Pooh films, yes, but not in this one. In this one it was Bud Luckey, who was the voice of Rick Dicker in The Incredibles, Chuckles in Toy Story 3, and the narrator of Pixar's "Boundin'" short.

  • @EmSeeSquared Yeah I did know but I commented before watching the video I wasnt sure what movie he ment.

  • 1:53. What'd he mean by 'Fourth wall jokes'?

  • @tthomaselli2 The fact that these stories are literally inside a book.

  • @tthomaselli2 Well the term originated on the stage, where your literally looking into a three-walled room, see? That makes the audience the fourth wall. So when a character makes a reference to the audience, like Pooh looking straight forward and speaking to the narrator, he's breaking the fourth wall. It's not just the story within the stage or movie anymore, they've become self-aware that they are actually IN a movie or play!

  • John Cleese is the narrator! :DDD Great! A monty python doing of a narrator on a Winnie the Pooh movie :D.

  • Reason we listen to your point of view is you point out your view precise, give examples, and cover most ground on the whole.

  • I love Pooh... But I hated this. Why? Yeah, too short. Yeah, too many opportunities lost, but 2 things that really pissed me off?

    1. The "smart" characters were turned into idiots. Like Kanga. I mean.. KANGA! The mature one!

    2. It felt like they were trying to push the nostalgia down my throat. Just let it flow man! Don't shove it. If you wanted it to be there, shoulda made a longer movie.

  • Even if Robert Rodriguez wrote the songs, I won't be singing this one. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I hate Winnie the Pooh. There.

  • @prue6967 You say it as if you have something to prove to someone.

  • @shadowhexogram I said it as a joke in reference to the Critic's "who deosn't like Winnie the Pooh?!" comment.

  • @prue6967 oh, right.

  • @shadowhexogram Is there a reason why you're being so confrontational with me over a cartoon bear?

  • @prue6967 You sounded confrontational so I confronted you. But you told me you were just replying to a comment the nostalgia made in an attempt to be humorous so that ends that really.

  • I totally agree with everything Doug coverd, they could of done so much more with this film. Winnie the Pooh was orignaly a book series, They could of took more stories from the books.

  • and i just happen to be black

  • I gotta say, I haven't seen this movie yet, but I'm laughing just watching this review because the animation is so damn good. The expressions on the characters, especially Rabbit, are so over-the-top, I can't help but laugh. I do want to rent this at some point.

  • OMG, Christopher Robin is jewish because he's wearing a kippah! LOL.

  • @maxtull21 I was almost thinking I was the only one who noticed that xD

  • I'm hoping that he also does a Top 11 Pixar Villains list for his Nostalgia Critic series.

  • @MusicFilmArtGuy09 yeah, but there arent really 11 WORTHY pixar villains. dont get me wrong. Lotso, Randal, Stinky Pete, Charles Munz, Hopper, Sid, Syndrom, and Chef Skinner are all good, but thats only 8. the rest, like Chick Hicks, Darla, and Auto are just generic jerks

  • As much as I really really like this movie, I will admit that I wasn't too keen on Christopher Robin's new design.

  • Thank you so much for your uploads. I wish other fans of the other contributers to TGWTG.com would upload as well. Like Cinema Snob, the rap review guy, and what happened to nostalgia Chick?

But again, seriously thanks for uploading clear non freezy Doug reviews!

  • I haven't seen this, but I must say that Christopher Robin looks really weird w/ pupils. o_O

  • It's a very cute movie, but I didn't really care for the new eye design for Christopher Robin. I thought they looked too much like Sora's eyes.

  • Just watched it. SO FRIGGING CUTE! ^_^ I was always laughing when Tigger was playing with the balloon.

  • @CyberChick2011 oh god same here! that and when owl flies out of the hole to give a speech to piglet then flies back in, and there all like owl! nice speech! trololol XD

  • I could not even finish this movie ... I hated it so freaking much

  • Pixarbruary! You know you want to, Doug!

  • @PogieJoe YES!!

  • @PogieJoe yes yes yes yes YES

  • Do a Pixmarch please NC.

I think Winnie the Pooh will win the Animated Feature Oscar (beating my predicted nominees which are Arthur Christmas, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots and Rango) because the Cars and Happy Feet sequel didn't really turn out good and motion capture films (Tintin) are ineligible.

  • Christopher Robins annoyed me... sounded completely opposite to the original Christopher Robin. High Pitched and rough.

  • I remember my sister was supposed to watch the 2011 Winnie the Pooh movie in her world religions class (because they were reading The Tao of Pooh.) The class ended up watching Madagascar instead. My sister asked her teacher why and he replied “I didn’t want to waste my money on the DVD. It’s not like I’m going to settle down in front of the TV one night and say ‘You know what? I feel like watching some Winnie the Pooh.’” xD

  • Thumbs up if you want Doug to do Dreamworkcember at the end of this year!!!

  • The voice of Eeyore in this is also Bud Luckey who is a long time animaitor at Pixar. It was his idea to make Woody a cowboy in Toy Story. He also wrote directed and did the voices in Pixars short film Boundin'. He also did the voices of Rick Dicker in The Incredibles and Chuckles the Clown in Toy Story 3. When I heard he was gonna do the voice of Eeyore I was like "Yeah that's the right choice." and I stand by my statement.

  • @bart11114 Eeyore was voiced by Peter Cullen in this film. Look it up.

  • @DarkRose219 I did and Peter Cullen was the voice of Eeyore from 1987 to 2011 but Bud Luckey is the one who voices him in this movie look it up.

  • @bart11114 I could of swore it was Peter Cullen. But whatever.

  • You know why Eeore is always depressed? Well tell me. How would you feel if you had a nail in your ass?

  • How much do you want Doug to review either the disney sequels or live action disney films next december?

  • Better than Cars 2, but I think those Dreamworks Animation movies of 2011 are better than Winnie The Pooh. I think it's good but not solid way as Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss In Boots, then again I prefer the Pooh movie like Many Adventures of Pooh, Tigger Movie, Piglet's Big Movie, Heffalump Movie more than this Winnie The Pooh. I mean want to like it more but because it was too short than any Pooh movies were, I think this would be better as the straight to DVD movie!

  • Huh, funny Christopher's eyes didn't bother me that much. Sure I was surprised but atleast he looked more human and sounded like an actuall british kid. OH wait that's wait the kid who voiced him actually is british.

  • @ceitiosaurus really? huh. i did not know that. Actually when I saw Christopher Robin had normal eyes at first I was like "OMG HE'S HIDEOUS!" However after a while I got used to it. I loved the movie and how they came across the thought of the backson was very funny indeed. I say it was the best of the year.. and I hope its not Disney's last.

  • @OnyxAgainstTheWorld Well as a matter O' fact, Disney plans to make King of the Elves, Frozen (Snow Queen), and another based on some book which I can't remember... Oh yeah and... Okay I forgot a couple names but still this is not Disney's last.

  • @ceitiosaurus "Frozen"? Really?! I can understand Rapunzel being turned to "Tangled" (even though I didn't like the title change to that one too), but changing the name of "The Snow Queen" to "Frozen"? I REALLY hope they're not considering that; especially when the original title to the story is just fine. It's one of my favorite stories from Hans Christian Anderson. If they can keep the original title of "The Little Mermaid" which is also one of his stories, why not this one?

  • @Fujikogirl Frozen YES REALLY. I know it's not an original title cause

we've already had a live-action film with the same title. Have you heard( I know this will be disappointing too) that it will be CG instead of hand drawn animation.

  • @Raz231000 You're right... That is disappointing to find out. I wish they could do like MadHouse Studios did with the 2001 Metropolis film. Have all the backgrounds in pure CGI, but have the characters in 2D. It would have been perfect for this movie. To think I've always wanted Disney to make a movie out of this only to turn out the opposite of what I thought it would be. I guess with the success of Tangled as a CG fairytale, they figure they don't need to make fairytale movies 2D anymore. :(

  • @Fujikogirl I know I miss traditional animation too. I think the way you mentioned would have been an interesting way to do it. It's been a long time since I've seen the anime version of Metropolis I remember not really caring that much for it. The Original silent version from 1927 if you've seen it is great.

  • The best way to end it 5:02

  • Christopher Robin is freaky with eye-whites. O_O

I actually thought that the dotted eyes were cute.

  • I agree; Christopher's eyes were so distracting...

  • Ok, Winnie the Pooh DEFINITELY needs a sequel with more stories in it. Heck, maybe even a remake of the original Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh!

  • what about the sequels?

  • This is my 3rd fave Pooh film right after #2 Tigger Movie and #1 Pooh's Grand Adventure.

  • I still wish that he would have reviewed Dinosaur, but oh well. :D

  • What about Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, and Bolt? Sure they're not 2d, but they're also part of the line of classic animated movies.

  • @vgmaster9

Read my split essay below as to why I believe he never did the other 3D Disney movies.

  • @nepomusik I just saw the second after I posted. Pretty accurate I guess.

  • So therefore the reason why none of these made it in Disneycember is clear; they're not made by WDAS, they're made by a lower-tier group of Disney.

It probably would've been better if Doug had explained this element better because it spawned some damn annoying comments and questions that could simply be answered if they just looked it up and research. But what Doug has given us for Disneycember was great in its own right.

Questions, comments etc are welcome. Wreck it-Ralph and Frozen are next!

  • Speaking of Goofy Movie, some have asked why that wasn't reviewed, as well as the likes of the freaking DuckTales movie, Doug's first movie, and all those other Winnie the Pooh sequels like Search for Christopher Robin and the Tigger movie weren't included. Because simply put, they weren't made by WDAS. They were made, by DisneyToon Studios (DTS), now a Disney subsidiary. DTS is the company that made all of our favorite Disney cartoons. AND ALSO, those "forced" Disney sequels. (con't)

  • Which leads to one HUGE misconception of Disney films in general; the famous castle logo. The castle logo (both the old and new) basically mean it's Walt Disney Pictures, but that doesn't mean it's automatically counted as a pure Disney film. James and the Giant Peach, Pixar's movies and A Goofy Movie may have the castle logo, but they're not at the same league or level as the WDAS films are. They're just basically part of a different group. (con't)

  • plus the self parody of all the Disney Princess cliches and the like. Mary Poppins, while being Disney made, was still primarily live action, and the animated portions were only there for less than 30 minutes. Heck, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Pete's Dragon and Song of the South are the same way and you don't see anybody complaining about those. As for Roger Rabbit, though there is some Disney Animation, it was still a collaborative effort. (con't)

  • keeping up with the tradition that Disney is best known for. The other 4 Disney films...have other premises, so that's why Doug didn't include them. Some theorize that it's because they're not that good, but that's entirely subjective.

Next is the question on why Enchanted, a 2D/3D film NOT part of the DAC, is included, yet the likes of similar films like Mary Poppins or Who Framed Roger Rabbit aren't. Enchanted I think gets in because again, the princess and fairy tale formula... (con't)

  • have the WDAS logo with a flipbook of Steamboat Willie. If a Disney film has that, you know that it's top tier Disney.

Now is the 2nd question: Dinosaur, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons and Bolt are also part of the DAC, but how come these 3D pictures aren't reviewed, yet Tangled is? Doug creatively explained that "Tangled is a 2D film in 3D clothing", but the other aspect I think is because Tangled IS also a Fairy Tale princess flick... (con't)

  • First off is the same thing that I keep telling everybody and their mother: The Disney Animated Canon (DAC). These 51 films (soon to be 53) are the Disney films that are made by Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS); the one that Walt himself started and still is going strong today. From Snow White to Pooh 2011, to Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen, this batch of movies is what I like to call the "Top Tier" Disney movies. Starting with Bolt, any movie that's part of this group will commonly... (con't)

  • Though Disneycember is over, people are still up in arms about why certain Disney films weren't touched upon. After going through most of the comments and all that, I can explain them, and theorize why they weren't included. BE PREPAAAAAAAAAARED for a long and winded explanation, because I feel like setting the record straight and trying to shut these complainers up (con't).

  • AWWWW, It's Over? Oh well, I am looking forward to Star Trek Month, that should be good.

  • Me: are you ever happy Doug?

    Doug: I'm never happy :(

  • "The Backson Song" was catchy, but it also kinda sounded like it was trying a bit too hard to be "Heffalumps and Woozles".

  • Well I don't agree with this movie being the best animated film of 2011 (TINTIN, FTW! :3 ), I did think it was one of the best films of 2011 period. It was 10x funnier than the cartoons they were based on, though those WERE good. :)

  • And now here's my top 5 best disney animated films are:

    5. Pinocchio

    4. Sleeping Beauty

    3. Beauty and the Beast

    2. Fantasia

    and... my number is...

    1. Aladdin

  • I love the movie and I saw that last summer right after I watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. But I can say that it's not the popular to release and it didn't look after enought to be a gigantic hit, so it's underrated movie. The characters are still memorable, the story is fun, and everything was amazing.

    To StupidWizardFilms:

Cars 2 was pretty damn good!!!

  • @getmario64 yes. yes it was

  • I know what he meant about Christopher Robin's eyes. I'm terrified over here.

  • Who here thinks NC should do reviews for the Pixar films, and if he wants the Pixar short films.

  • @wolfkniteX Yeah I agree. He should review all the Pixar and Studio Ghibli films. That would be awesome

  • I actually didn't see this movie for a few reasons

    1. Doug's statement on the animation. It looks a little too "real" compared to the original movie

    2. Pooh's Grand Adventure did this story first and frankly better in my opinion. It basically followed the Don Bluth formula of put your characters through a bunch of crap and then do the happy ending.

  • I found this movie more nostalgic than the new Muppets movie.

  • It was a pretty good movie, however their release date was probably their biggest mistake imo.

They released this movie the same week as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2 and most of us already knew who was going to take up most of the movie theatres in box office. Let's see if how Disney will do with their next few projects...

  • he should do Pixar month

  • awww, i can't believe it's over, i hope he reviews more disney movies in the future

  • @mulan4ever14 maybe next year he will go over Disney's live action or CGI films

  • thank you Constance the Chernabog for uploading Disneycember

  • I'm a little surprised he didn't mention Tom Kenny voicing Rabbit. I was kind looking forward to his opinion on him.

  • Short, nostalgic, and gently whimsical, Winnie the Pooh offers young audiences -- and their parents -- a sweetly traditional family treat.

  • After watching, I really want to watch this. Sadly I missed it in theaters because the Philippines seems to really have something against Disney; Pooh came out a whole YEAR here after the US, and it wasn't marketed at all. I've heard that the new Pooh movie is REALLY good.

And so ends Disneycember. Really nice nostalgia trip and an informative series making me think about Disney seriously again. For Disney's future, next is Wreck-It Ralph, and Frozen. I eagerly await to see those.

  • Best Animated Film of 2011. Cars 2 WAS AWFUL!!!!!!!

  • @StupidWizardFilms Agree. Cars 2 was a complete disappointment. Seemed like a episode from a TV show than a sequel of a pixar movie.

  • @StupidWizardFilms why did pixar wanna make a bad film?

  • @lexlinkroy They wanted the little kids to be happy

  • @StupidWizardFilms the little kids who liked cars liked it but the so many who did not well did not.

  • @StupidWizardFilms 1. yep, the best.

    2.vFUCK YOU.

  • @AntonyBlalock You confuse me

  • @StupidWizardFilms ... I didn't think Cars 2 was that bad. Oh sure, the worst Pixar film of all time (obviously), but on its own, it's partially enjoyable... if you don't take the film seriously. It has its moments (the opening, when put out-of-context, was pretty impressive.)

  • @FilmFTW1 The animation was great but is it sad to say Michael made a better film? The racing scenes were okay but the stuff with Mater was so annoying!

  • @StupidWizardFilms I agree, it was more of a "Mater-toon" film than a regular "Cars 2" film. Seriously, why couldn't McQueen be the secret agent?! Would make more sense (and more of a "Cars" film, mind you) than what the film's currently portraying. Should've directed "Toy Story 3" instead, Mr. Lasseter

  • @FilmFTW1 Or they could have something different than SPIES!!!!! If kids want a spy adventure there is...okay no Spy Kids. But they can watch Bond and not have they're favorite Cartoon characters in it. Great animation but just why?

  • @FilmFTW1 Michael bay is what I meant

  • @StupidWizardFilms ... well, I'm not shocked that a Transformers sequel would be better...

  • @StupidWizardFilms against Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below? Tough competition, man.

  • @aquapendulum Was that a US release?

  • @StupidWizardFilms Limited release, but yes.

  • Seriously, am I the only one who hated the songs in this movie? I adore the original, and the songs, but here I thought they were trying waaay too hard. Tigger sings the line, "It's gonna be great" 27 times (yeah, I counted.) for a song that abused Eeyore. Zooey's version of the theme was so depressing sounding. I also thought the characters were more mean-spirited than usual. Piglet seemed kinda less bright than usual. The only thing I thought was great was the use of Bud Luckey as Eeyore.

  • This movie flashed before my eyes, LOL it was only 51 minutes. I don't get why they didn't do more to make it last an hour and a half like a normal movie time. Oh well, I was just happy to see Pooh and the gang on the big screen again :)

  • Too bad he didn't review the Piglet movie or the Tigger one

  • @Bortfangirl They were done buy DisnetToonz Studios not Walt Disney Animation.

  • @Bortfangirl

Yeah, as he said, the other Pooh movies were not done by Walt Disney Animation Studios, but DisneyToon Studios, the same company who made all those Disney sequels. As such, they're not part of what's known as the Disney Animated Canon, the collective term for all 51 (soon to be 53) movies made by the Disney Company's first party animation studio.

  • Thank you so much for putting these up on YouTube. I had to download a flash web browser to watch the nostalgia critic specials because no one would post them on YouTube. so thanks
